Completely agree. I was a cbse student and my children are both IB students. I can relate with your perspective completely

Thanks a lot for doing this comparison between the two. I've even encountered people who are unheard of International Baccalaureate. It's very exasperating that CBSE is still mentoring students in the most ineffective style. Education system of CBSE is just another genre of stand-up comedy.

I could relate as I am a CBSE student. Now I am in college persuing B.Tech any skill I learn whose results could be seen in real-world directly, It literally comes to my mind that it is different than till now whatever I have studied. It happens because there are very little times in the whole 15 years as a CBSE Student when the stuff taught in my school were actually related to the real world. It was like the world of my school is very far away from the actual reality of the world. Everything's taught us in our school stays at the school and books itself and the real-world is somewhat else.

i would like to see such a comparison done for the STEM subjects. These comparisons are often done on cultural and similarly abstract topics I am going to critique this video in 2 parts Part a) In today's world, the geopolitics is as important as regional politics which drives economic decisions and that ultimately drives the decisions in the production and service sector. The decisions that are taken by these sectors that add value (read: increase in nominal GDP) are guided by local demand (as nations become increasingly - China 1st, US 1st .....) to close the gap in trade deficit (especially w.r.t China). So current affairs, economic sciences (as i would like to call it) and STEM should be taught in an integrated fashion. Part b) Our reality is that 80% of our population is in someway connected with the agricultural sector. We have to come up with solutions that increases their purchasing capacity. Is CBSE syllabus having this kind of depth and breath (integration of STEM and Economic Sciences ... Part a) Ans: No Does the CBSE syllabus consider the macro nature of problems and prepare the students to critically analyze an issue and apply what they have learned in PCBM to solve a real world problem (Part b) ..... (ex. Farmer suicides in Vidarbha .... rooted in agricultural practices that are many centuries old and hence highly dependent on amt of rainfall that year) Ans: No In a nutshell, problem solving or analytical approach is missing .... Accepted What about ICSE, IB and Cambridge with the claim to address these gaps in education Are students with an inclination in STEM given an orientation of local problems. Do, they understand where and how power is generated and the journey it takes b4 it reaches our appliances and gadgets. Do,they understand what sustainable living actually means for a 1.4 billion population. Do they have any inclination towards setting up MMSE to boost the economy. So while the claims of global education are welcome (and will appeal to the upper middle class and above) ... we need to understand that a fair share of the global problems are here in INDIA ..... very much local I request readers to see my comments in a constructive way. Gaps remain in every form of education and needs to be addressed jointly by all of us, so that we can move on from survival to thrive mode in the 21st century.

What would be the parents role for the students in ICSE, IB and IGCSE? What level of parents involvement would require for the ICSE, IB and IGCSE? What kind of support parents should provide to the students of ICSE, IB and IGCSE? What are the career options for the students in these boards ICSE, IB and IGCSE? If the students studied in the ICSE, IB and IGCSE wanted to write NEET or IIT etc, what should be the approach? Approximate fees for the ICSE, IB and IGCSE? What are under graduation program options for the ICSE, IB and IGCSE? What are post graduation program options for the ICSE, IB and IGCSE?

I’ll answer some of your questions as an IB student 1) Parents can mentor their children however IB is designed to make students take responsibility and parents have nothing much to do 2) Minimal. Only what’s required like parent-teacher meetings, mails for student behaviour etc. Parents on the side help their children with profile building but that’s different for each family 3) Parents should encourage students to study effectively but since IB is a very rigorous program, parents should also help their kids balance social life with studies. 4) Most fields are open. IB doesn’t require you to choose a stream so you can choose all subjects you’re interested in. Usually people choose subjects that relate to the major they are interested in. For example, someone who wants to do Computer Science would choose Math HL, Physics HL and Computer Science HL, and SL English, 2nd Language and any other subject of their preference. A lot of this info in available on the IB website. 6) Not sure about this one 7) The school I go to charges 14-17 lakhs per year. 8) Like I said, IB doesn’t require you to choose a stream so you can choose any 6 subjects you’re interested in (Math and English is compulsory so you get to choose what level you want)

IB doesn't only focus on English. It also focuses on Philosophy/epistemology (Theory of Knowledge) and Mathematics. Moreover, Mathematics at IB is of different levels which unfortunately doesn't happen in CBSE. For example, a Commerce student from CBSE is forced to take up Mathematics which has chapters like calculus which is of no use to him

This is comparing apples to pears. It would have been a fair comparison if a satirical piece if work from CBSE and it's corresponding questions were taken. Also even the weight of questions with respect to marks awarded to each question - IB vs CBSE - is not a fair comparison. For a 10 mark question even in CBSE one is expected to examine the text beyond the apparent literal meaning and then analyse and draw the conclusions.

Rote-learning and regurgitation of facts is not what education is about. It is the education of the mind and cultivation of the ability to think productively and creatively, analyse, synthesise, search for solutions, encourage cooperation, connectedness, embrace values and virtues for right living, engaging in the betterment of self and the world .Any worthwhile education board or system should rise up these challenges. Spending time and resources on the accumulation of facts is irrelevant and waste of time as these are accessible with a click.

It seems the question set you put for CBSE is taken from an extremely old pattern. The recent pattern has completely changed and allows student to think and analyze before choosing the right answer. Before drawing any conclusions, one must check the value based questions set for literature, which force them to think beyond the text, chapter , analyze and then answer. And another factor why they keep the passages a bit general, is because the background of the students/parents. 60% of the. can't afford to get knowledge freely from anywhere in the world. Can you give me a list of IB schools which gives free education in India, ? Most of the CBSE (NCERT) schools give free education, keeping the standard of exposure every student gets here. So many factors are there. Definitely the IB student's standard is pretty high, so is the standard of their parents.

Try to go for an IB workshop and short course related to your subject. Then try to intern in an Ib school. having a tutor defeats the purpose after all it is independent thinking, creativity, problem solving and not Content driven education. Good Luck

Cbse answers tbh are not so straightforward. You have to read reference book too to get different perspectives. Eg poem cold within, where they discuss different themes of lack of compassion and prejudices. Majority of students in cbse sure are not taught to see such perspectives but good school in cbse sure teaches. Rote learning yes is a problem. The questions in history eg.life of gandhi all are content based rather than critical thinking.

This just proves her point that CBSE trains students what to think whereas UB teaches how to think. Why limit growing changing ever evolving minds to competitive exams. Are there no jobs beyond engineering and medicine or IT? Jobs where you are just another cog on a wheel (unless it is your true passion) whereas some of the most successful people in the world didn’t attend any higher education and are making an amazing life for themselves. Life is much more than how well you do on an exam.
