yaaas queen!!! melanie explained the black eyes on the K-12 DVD booklet saying; "Their eyes going black represent them being awakened to a higher level of consciousness. These powers represent the abilities we achieve through healing ourselves and others."

Her "powers" awakened at the end of the Mad Hatter music video. Cry Baby always had special powers such as her throwing the board in pacify her with her mind she just couldn't control them until she got the black eyes

She has an EP called After School that she released after K-12. The songs double as the deluxe tracks for K-12 but they are more personal rather than about Cry Baby. She made a music video for the last track The Bakery

actually, from what i understand the songs go by grade level. like wheels on the bus- kindergarten class fight- 1st grade the principal- 2nd grade show and tell- 3rd grade nurses office- 4th grade drama club- 5th grade lunchbox friends- 6th grade orange juice- 7th grade detention- 8th grade teachers pet- 9th grade high school sweethearts- 10th grade recess- 11th grade i know thats 99% not accurate but thats just my little take on it considering they each kinda fit lmao

"K-12" literally means "kindergarten through twelfth grade". She is literally growing up as the movie goes on so they are actually in middle school when the period scene happenes not first grade

As someone that considers Melanie to be my favorite artist and loves her whole vibe/how unapologetic she is, I would be lying to myself if I said this was a good movie. It’s not let’s be real people are blinded by Melanie’s name slapped on the credits. This isn’t a movie musical, this is just a video to connect music videos together. I understand this was her first attempt at writing a full movie but there is literally no plot and the “plot” that does exist has so many plot holes. For example, how are they in 1st grade during the movie and the kids do weed on the bus, have sex, call each other “bitches”, etc. Then also why is the school haunted, there is literally no significance to that in the slightest. Why after recess do the kids just run out the school with no hesitation to Crybaby even though in the principal scene the boy said they were forced to take pills so that they couldn’t leave (so then why didn’t they just leave sooner?) Speaking of leaving sooner, seriously why not? They had so many outdoor activities and there are absolutely no barriers to keep the students in the school grounds. Then after the kids storm out the school why does Crybaby not just run down with them, but goes to the balcony instead just to risk her life by jumping which she knows will be the case? Additionally the characters are all bland including Crybaby. I used to think Crybaby had so much personality but this movie made her so baron, she wasn’t even like depressed, she was just boring. Angelita was just as boring as Crybaby. Kelly is literally just every “mean girl” Disney channel movie stereotype and Brandon is the same thing but the boyfriend of the mean girl instead. Celeste was my favorite character because she actually had a fun personality, one of the redeeming qualities of the movie. Magnolia literally has NO reason to be in this movie, you could remove her and nothing would change. Fleur is ok but nothing is really expanded about her character, she’s just the “insecure” one. Then when it came to transitions, Melanie did a terrible job. Why after the tennis ball is caught by Ben does she cut to Strawberry Shortcake? It makes bo sense at all, the song is about Beauty Standards and how did the previous scene set up for that exactly? She literally could’ve just made a scene about some boys outside talking about how they thought Crybaby was ugly or something but she didn’t even do that, lazy writing. Teachers pet is one of the worst parts of this movie, a song about a serious topic sure, but has no context before it and adds nothing to the story. Then High School Sweethearts missed a huge opportunity to be talking about that letter that she received and how whatever guy it was must follow the rules stated by Crybaby but no it’s not even about that, it’s just a bad transition after another outdoor scene to sing. I know I’m going to get hate for this but i strongly believe that given Melanies talents this is no where near the best she could’ve done. I genuinely think she made the whole album first and then after just thought of ways to put them together as a “movie” while sacrificing plot for music. I don’t think this movie is awful, the music, choreography, and visuals were amazing, the costume design was great, and the messages were important but the movie isn’t a movie it’s just one big music video.

Every song is a grade and some of the song subjects apply to those ages: Wheels On The Bus - Kindergarten Class Fight - 1st Grade The Principal - 2nd Grade Show & Tell - 3rd Grade Nurse's Office - 4th Grade Drama Club - 5th Grade Strawberry Shortcake - 6th Grade (our bodies change at this age) Lunchbox Friends - 7th Grade (age 12 is a very common age to get a period) Orange Juice - 8th Grade Detention - 9th Grade Teacher's Pet - 10th Grade High School Sweethearts - 11th Grade Recess - 12th Grade (to me their dance is like a prom) Melanie has also said the hairstyles "mature" as the movie goes on.

Fun fact: They only had 2 hrs to rehearse each dance like show and tell she had to pick up the pace and pretty much every song on the album and Recess I remember was really hard to rehearse

So what happens is that each song is a difference grade Starting at class fight so like first grade all the way to 12 so orange juice is the 8th song it’s 8th grade hope that helped :)
