honestly orange juice and strawberry shortcake are so underrated, they dont just sound amazing but also mean so much, especially since as a girl with bulimia, me and a lot of people i know can relate to both of them heavily

every song is in order of each grade, we start with wheels on the bus (kindergarten), and end with recess (12th grade) so the film helps visualize crybaby growing up. her hair also changes constantly to show character growth, while the bullies hair (kelly) never changes which shows her childlike approach to situations

Why was her reaction to Teacher’s Pet so funny 😭 The constant “gross” “oof” “it’s really creepy” “that is not ok” “no” and the faces of disgust really had me 💀

A small detail that not many people notice: Right before “Wheels On The Bus”, everyone is laughing at Crybaby but Fleur isn’t. Fleur is a nice person overall so this makes sense.

K-12 was filmed in Budapest, Hungary over a span of 31 days, and at Eszterháza. I also love K-12 it’s my favorite film

Kind of lore for y’all: So basically the girls with powers are Immortal meaning that after a bit, they go into new lives and repeat that process for eternity. That kinda explains her eras. And lilith is the brown girl who saved mel and her friend (I forgot her name) in nurses office and who made a portal for the superpower girls to go into to change temporary lives. Correct me if I’m wrong but that’s what I learned from watching it almost 4 times already!

fun fact: the school was originally gonna burn down in a fire while the song “fire drill” played however it crossed the budget so melanie had to make the bubble scene! she still wanted to release fire drill so she put it at the end credits, and also re-released the song as an official single sometime in 2020

It's crazy how many details I learn about this film 4 years after it released. Apparently there's some posters in the background that were teasers for the creature from her portals era. Hidden in plain slight all these years💃🔪

One thing I really liked about the “Stawberry Shortcake” sequence is that at 47:24 we see Melanie’s arms in a certain position that make her almost seem as a figure placed on top of the cake like a cherry rather than the cake being her body/dress

Once u watch it more than one time you can notice the littlest hints like at the beginning when crybaby said "a voice of a thousand angels said, its temporary" you can notice that when you get that she's immortal and she's is learning how to live a life and also how you see her other 3 new friends in the exact bus scene like one of them was sitting beside her on another booth and the girl behind her which is shown on the sky scene and the other one that showed her powers in the bus

A neat little detail that I really like is when Crybaby and Angelita enter the ballroom to find all of those ghosts dancing, which foreshadows the ending :))

i have a few explinations! basically, all of the hair changes in every song (except choreo like in the principal) represent Crybaby progressing through the grades and her character development, aka going through k-12, in the principal it was calling out the president and the government about how they sit back, claiming to be the good guys when the people of America and in pain etc, show and tell talks about how being a celebrity is stressful and how Melanie and other celebrities are constantly dehumanized by their fans, it also talks about her fear of revealing her true authentic self in fear that she as an artist will be shunned,

Idk if it was intentional, but the way your voice began to echo as we follow Mel go back into that bathroom is such a fun little trick that i cant help but appreciate so so much ehehe

i haven’t watched K-12 in a long time, and i’m just. the entire scene at 53:49 is soooo relatable for how it feels making friends as an autistic person. like obviously in this case it’s performed specifically to seem “strange,” but that’s how we look to most people too. and literally all of Orange Juice, ugh i am crying again

All of her songs has a super intense meaning behind it. Whether it’s body positivity/negativity, school, everyone should really hear what she’s saying. But it’s so intense it’s hard to understand because of the way she expresses what it means. If you really think about it when the dude said “To control us” while her and Kelly where in the principal office. School really does control you. Tell you when to sit quiet, raise your hand, when to talk, all of that. Then her song The Principal she when deeper into that. Also the part when another dude was talking about the pledge of allegiance is crazy because no one was really thinking about it until now in this generation. So she was basically one of the first to say what the actual meaning was behind it. People really don’t hear because they thinks she’s weird or whatever but she is actually SO damn creative it’s out of this world. Then she the director of this movie? Damn.

So I if not sure if im right but there is something called the "Kelly Theory" Which is that she stayed and kelly killed her since we did not see her get out of the building, And on the note she trows on Crybaby in Clas fight its written: "You are recess" and a drawing of a tomb and the song that made everyone dance was called recess, And in DEATH from portals people are covering her tomb which means she was buried, and probably did not pass trought the door. Originally Melanie wrote the script to be about 3hrs long but had to composite to fit budget which is around 5-6billion. Things I forgot to mention lol: Those with powers have black eyes. (Crybaby, Angelita, Ben and the rest of the friend group) Throughout the whole movie each song is a grade level. y'all I think I just figured something out. the scene where Kelly throws the note at crybaby where it says "you at recess" I think was foreshadowing portals. recess is the name of the last song/plays during one of the final scenes in the movie, and when they go through the portal their physical bodies presumably die. I'm either connecting things that aren't there or I just uncovered something lmao

the wound on crybaby's arm in show and tell is actually not the same as the one in class fight. she cuts herself when singing "if I cut myself, I would bleed", the knife wound had already healed, as supposedly years had passed

Not much people are explaining what’s happening with the powers or anything, but it’s just the 6 of them who have the powers Cry Baby, Ben, Fleur, Angelita, Magnolia, and Celeste. No ones really sure about anyone else because no one else showed signs of powers except them. People do think that Kelly does though. I kinda think that too.

😢 A lot of the stuff on K-12 connects to Portals, the last song was Fire Drill! I love that one, but The part of "you start at the womb and you end in the tomb" is very important!, the part of "conjoined twins" too, the lady who appeared in Nurse's office is Lilith! (Or represents her), the paper that Kelly throw in class fight is like a foreshadowing too, she wasnt technically just saying "you at recess" in the song because they fight, but also if you notice recess is the last song, which is apparently Cry Baby's death happen, and as you said is not just with the meaning of living school life/childhood and going into adulthood but also a representation of death itself connecting to portals (or i see it as that at least) Wheels on the bus is about authorities ignoring stuff mostly school Class Fight may be about of women are constantly pitted against each other, specifically in music industry The Principal is about authorities with more power like president or principal in this case, if im not mistaken this was a bit directed to Donald Trump in 2019 with the immigrants and i believe something related to the border between the us and mexico (not sure tho) Show and Tell is mostly about the music industry and how singers cant be themselves because people wont accept them, and how they are just seen as products and not as humans, that they are just to entertain and they wont succed if they express themselves Nurse's Office is about bullying (she pretended to be sick to leave) Drama Club is about people doing things they dont want for popularity, she starts to feel pressured by seeing how people are judged by what they do or say Strawberry Shortcake is about how many girls are taught from a young age that they are only valued if they are attractive to men. This regularly causes them to feel insecure about how they look since they do not fit society's standards. Lunchbox Friends is about fake friends Orange juice is about eating disorder (I loved that she included different skin colors, hair and bodies for all the movie, orange juice and strawberry shortcake because those two i feel are ones that are very important to girls) Detention refers to the feeling of suppression and vulnerability while being in the public eye and having to put up a perfect image even if you are not alright. However for this one i saw another meaning, i believe it was maybe women being sexualized? But im not sure Teacher's pet is the abuse of power, grooming and pedophilia. 💃💃🔪👶, this movie was a work of art, i remember it being midnight back on September of 2019 and me watching it as it premiered, and i fell in love, this album helped me soooooooo much with the issues i was dealing with as a teenager in high school and now Portals is helping me with my current issues as an adult.
