There was a flutter at the window 창문에 날개치는 소리가 났다이 작품은 한국의 전통 시조를 기반으로 지은 것으로, Bb 클라리넷, 정악 가야금과 장구를 위한 곡이다.시조시의 구조인 4장 구성(기-승-전-결)을 따르며, 각 섹션에서는 음악적 재료를 활용하여 청각적 묘사를 구축하였다. 특정 시를 주제로 한 것은 아니지만 백수(白水) 정완영(1919~2016) 동시집의 "초봄"에서 자연을 글로 표현한 아름다움에 이끌렸다. 또한 Studio Drift의 키네틱 아트워크 Fragile Future 및 Amplitude 본 작품 음악적 형태의 리드미컬한 윤곽에 대한 창조를 가능하게 한 영감으로 제시하고자 한다. 이 구성은 봄의 시작에 신선하고 희망찬 새의 날개짓을 묘사한다. 새는 수줍고 주저하지만, 깨어 있는 지구를 탐험하고 주변 환경과 상호 작용한다. 그리고 이곳에서 미래를 세울 가능성을 확인한다. 이는 과거의 어려움에도 불구하고 미지의 미래에 도전하는 인간의 인내를 반영하는 것이다.

This work is based on the Korean traditional poetic form, Sijo.
A flutter at the window is a piece for Bb Clarinet, Chongak Gayageum, and Janggu.
It follows the structure of sijo poems in theme, elaboration, counter theme, and conclusion, proportioning the composition into 4 sections. The different sections then use the respective musical material to build an aural depiction of a sijo-form poem. Though not in theme with any particular poem in general, the composer was driven by the beauty of Jeong Wanyeong [White Water] (1919 - 2016)'s writing of nature, in the poem Early Spring, from Jeong Wan-young's simultaneous collection*.
The composer would also like to name Studio Drift's kinetic artworks titled Fragile Future and Amplitude as inspiration for the musical shape rhythmic contour for this piece**.
This composition depicts the fluttering of a bird's wings, fresh and hopeful at the beginning of spring. Though shy and hesitant, the bird explores the waking earth and interacts with its surroundings, intrigued and checking out the viability of building its future in this terrain. It also reflects a person's perseverance to take on the unknown future despite past challenges.
◆조이 여
조이 여는 2022년 NAFA(Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts)를 최근 졸업하였고, NAFA에서 작곡과 기타를 전공하였습니다. 대학교 1학년 때 가믈란(Gamelan)을 알게 된 후, 문화 혼합 앙상블에 관심을 갖게 되었고, 흔하지 않은 악기의 실내악 앙상블을 위한 작품을 창작하였습니다.
교육자로서 조이는 작곡 기법을 활용하여 학생들을 가르치고, 수업에서 배운 내용을 짧고 간단한 작곡에 적용할 수 있도록 격려하며, 작곡이 학생들이 음악을 더 깊이 이해하는 데 도움이 될 것이라고 믿고 있습니다. 조이는 앙클룽(Angklung)과 쿨린탕(Kulintang) 앙상블에서 기타 듀엣에 이르기까지 학생들을 의해 종종 작품을 작곡합니다.
◆Joey Yeo
Joey Yeo is a recent graduate of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in Composition with a second study of Guitar. She has been interested in mixed ensembles since learning about Gamelan in her first year of NAFA studies. Joey has written for chamber ensembles of uncommon instrumentation during her study at NAFA. As an educator, she integrates compositional skills in teaching the students, encouraging them to apply what they learned in lessons to composing short, simple pieces, believing that composition will help the students understand their musical studies deeper. She often composes pieces for her students, ranging from Angklung Kulintang Ensembles to Guitar duets.
