First of all, at 7:53, that red car's licence plate says "LED ZEP." And the blue car to the right of that has one that reads "PINK FLD." Major coo-dos to the devs for that. Second, I love the screen-shaking effect you adding when the train passes. It adds a great feel.
Not only the fact that y'all brought 614 to trainz, but the fact that you also got Dave Drui to narrator for you is amazing. Outstanding work Steve and Bill!
Actually, you made a little Mistake. When Ross E. Rowland Jr was in the process of the ACE 3000 Project, he didn't think that steam had been retired to early... Ross Rowland new that it had been statistically proven that the steam locomotive (Specifically the 4-8-4's) could haul more freight less locomotive. With the price of oil skyrocketing, Ross Rowland offered the ACE 3000 Project as a cheaper and more effective way to haul trains. He didn't once think about steam being retired to early, he wanted to find the railroads an alternative fuel source and quickly.
Ross Told me in an Interview i had with him that during the ACE 3000 project, the tempature got so low one day, that the fuel in the diesel locomotives froze, 614 was the only train to go over the division that day.
You haven't see crap yet until you hear Les Jarrett's voice. His narration of various railfanning films is impressive. K&L Trainz should have him narrate some of their new promos!
Will there be a 10 year anniversary for 614? It would be cool to see one. With it showing it in C&O service, and the NJT excursions or a lil brief of what could have been the GPE.
I personally think CSX should re-employ the use of 614 as a freight locomotive to keep proveing the ace 3000, or any modern steam project, are a viable alternative. Amazing model guys.
Here is my thing, could the DDa40x carboy design be used to help build the ACE3000? The DDa40x is long enough that you could have a tender, boiler, and electric equipment on the same frame. Also you could have 2 sets of the 4-8-2 wheel arrangment on the ACE 3000, and the underbody fuel tank could be filled with the water.
The model of the 614 is simply amazing, animated couplers, bell, and an excellent bark out the stack, you guys have taken the bar to a whole new level! Keep up the awesome work!
@Dylan Connolly I know about it. The guy's thinking of making it environmentally friendly by making it run on natural gas. I think in my opinion is insulting for an excursion star and a steam locomotive.
@Dylan Connolly The reason why I said "guy" was because I forgot his name. Anyway, it's better off to burn oil. That means it can go to other places where coal burners can't.
K&L Trainz, Ever thought of ever remastering old locomotives to look like the T:ANE Kanawha or NKP models? They look extremely realistic and with the smoke and lighting engine. It would be revolutionary for trainz if this happened. Ik you got like years of work to do.
What the narrator said from 11:30 to 11:41 is what I hope will be true, it's never too late to believe and in my opinion steam is sooooooooo much better than diesel. It's much more alive. 🚂💨
Later steam locomotive designs, such as the Berkshires, Northerns, etc. generated more horsepower as they went faster, and diesels don't do that. And Nickel Plate 765 is rated for 4500 horsepower, which is 100 more than a typical GE ES44, and about as much as a typical EMD SD70ACe.
God DAMN that's a foamer thing to say! Despite my love for steam such as yourself, there is no way steam will ever tread the rails as the main power. The environmentalists would jump at it IMMEDIATELY.
Ya it’s true but if we some how found a way to burn coal cleaner and more efficient maybe they could make a comeback in secret that is after all I do love the earth but i any about to go tattlin about her most impressive form of rail power that was quite dirty is back
It would be really nice if CSX would allow excursions on the old B&O line between Baltimore & Cumberland. It would draw crowds because of the enormous railroading history between those two spots: B&O Roundhouse in Baltimore, the Viaduct, Harpers Ferry, B&O Roundhouse & Shop Facility in Martinsburg, Hancock Yard, & Cumberland Train station where the Western MD is would be great. The fact that the two roundhouses are the only two left standing in the US of their type (one in Martinsburg being the only one left in the world of its design).
KeeganHedley Vlogs he is a pentrex narrator but your right holy shit! Now whenever I do that test I’ll always think of pentrex 😂. Thank you kind sir XD
When I called him and spoke to him before we worked on the project, it was like having my own Pentrex conversation! It was awesome! We talked about 3 hours......2 minutes of that was about trains, the rest was about drums and music lol
From trains straight to drums and music. I've always wondered how people can go from talking about one thing then to another completely unrelated thing in a conversation. One of those things right?
Wow! Hey could you try and make a NYC J1-e class Hudson and have David narrate the vide or Danny Harmon narrator of Hareron Rail DVDs. Tell the story of New York Central 5344 the final J1-e Hudson the Railroad bought from Alco.
Ain't no way this is 8 years ago someone needs to wake me up I swear man. The graphical difference on the products as well as the videos from then and now is astounding.

This not a guarantee or anything, but since CSX is now under Hunter Harrison's leadership, I think they will allow 614 to operate excursions on their lines.
My grandparents house is right by the C&O mainline and I remember running outside in the snow to watch the 614 pulling those heavy coal cars to Hinton. This video brings back happy memories of watching this locomotive with my grandpa!
It's a pity that the wide variety of C&O's steam roster was not reflected in the railroad's preservation policy. But, like it was on British Railways, the emphasis was on attention to historic accuracy. Practically all of C&O's steam roster prior to 1941 underwent significant alterations during their service lives, and were overlooked strictly by this. If it had not been for the 1952 Logan, West Virginia celebrations, Ten Wheeler 377 would not have still been around, to make a point.
Would you ever be interested in the idea of doing a video of C&O 614 when she pulled excursions on NJT's Main/Bergen Line between Hoboken and Port Jervis?
Tailterrier27 I don't have the Trainz Surveyor skills yet or C&O 614 since I'm using an Trainz 2004.This model isn't available for 04. I would also get carried away and build the whole route. Versus the guy who did the scenery for this, who made small sections.
Tailterrier27 Well outside of the 614 excursion, the NJT main/Bergen lines don't interest me. I'd rather model the CSAO Lehigh Line with bits of the Raritan Valley Line, Port Reading Secondary and the Garden State Secondary.
Both require time and dedication. The model building has a lot more technical aspects to it. Anyone can technically make a route but not everyone can make a good route. Not everyone can just make a model and export it and get it to actually work. I try to find a blend of both. My extent of route building ends with the videos. I want to make special scenes to convey the model. I'd never get a model done if I made entire routes of the scenes I make for the videos.
they cant do that, since n3v are the ones that decide what dlc they add into mobile, and they only put dlc from trains that are on the download station for the pc versions of trainz, stuff they made, or stuff from places that make dlc for them, such as 3dzug and ocemy. they dont put dlc in from third parties like k&l trainz, but k&l trainz's locomotives are high quality, so it would be cool to see them on mobile
There is an item on the DLS called "Banking Consist"....its a session rule that lets the train bank on curves even though the curves themselves aren't banked.
couldn't the 614 ever run again? (I know c&o is part of csx but I guess that's there choice) or maybe it could be a part of the ns steam program I did come up with suggestions of other steam engines that could join the program which include the Pennsylvania 1361 the l&n 152 (which is being rebuilt right now) the Frisco 1522 (I would like to see it double head with the 611 again) and the Pere Marquette 1225 (since the 765 is in the program I just thought her sister could join too) and I defiantly liked that you got the pentrex narrator to do this
+TrainMan 555 Ross has the money to restore 614, he just doesn't have somewhere to run the engine for an extended period of time. If he is going to spend millions to get it running, he needs to guarantee that the engine will have somewhere to run for a few years to justify spending the money. Anymore, there is no need for 614 to run again. NS has 611, and they can use TVRM's SOU 4501 and 630 if need be, and 765 is handy when they want to run trip up in the Chicago area. There's just no need for 614. NS would restore the 1218 before they dealt with 614. Theres rumors that the RDG 2100 may be a candidate for joining in on the NS trips if they continue to grow in popularity.
+stevelerro I see I have forgotten about RDG 2100 (I've just been recently been interested in the ns steam program lately since I've already know a lot about the up steam)
+Connor Flaherty I don't know but many people call csx the anti steam railroad in the united states they won't allow no steam locomotives on their tracks (they did before in the past like having the 3985 as clinclfield 676 for the 50th anniversary of the santa clause train in 1992 and having both the 765 and the 1225 travel side by side for the 1991 nrhs convetion that was in huntington west Virginia those are the only ones I can think of that csx allowed steam engines on their rails) I will say that I think csx was a lot better in the past then they are today (in my opinion)
+Connor Flaherty i believe that railroad enthusiasts might see a steam engine in action on the mainline of csx one day (if they decide not to act so greedy like they are now and change their minds about letting steam on their rails again)
Hey guys I went to the Philadelphia Expo Center Train Show of 2020. I got this card that led me to to this website with Dave Drui called Anchor Videos.
Steve; HOW DID YOU GET PENTREX'S NARRATOR TO NARRATE FOR YOU! It really makes it authentic! I literally forgot I was watching a recorded simulator session and thought it was a Pentrex documentary!
The Pitch for the whistle is slightly wrong. It's a lot higher than the payware locomotive makes it out to be. Other than that, you've gotten 99% of the locomotive quite right. Are you thinking about doing a version with NEC passenger cars such as the Amtrak Horizon coaches?
There are no routes used in this promo. All shots were done on a single scene modules, made specifically for this video. That's how almost all K&L videos are unless noted in the credits at the end.
7:04 Does anyone else see the irony in this being the Chessie Safety Express and a whole bunch of people go out onto the trestle where they could fall and or be hit quite easily??
In general, the Safety Express brought out so many people that they had near misses with people quite frequently. Steam engines in general bring out tons of people, but when you bring one out and do such a massive tour with it, no matter what the purpose of it, you're going to get people of all walks of life out, many of which do not know the train is wider than the gauge of the track!
