I know this post is 3 years old .. but I recently purchased a 2007 IS 250.. as a daily driver ..I love the car . I have been driving V8 Ford mustangs for 20 years .This is my first Lexus .and in my opinion…the Fsport Intake kit with the Lower air box .the filter. And the larger pipe is the best bang for the buck bolt on you can buy for a IS 250.. It gives you much better throttle response..increased gas mileage and sounds awesome over 3k rpm…it’s worth every penny IMHO.
This is what you call the placebo effect. Putting in a k&n air filter will not affect the sound of anything. And the 1 to 5 horse power he probably gained would be imperceivable when hitting the throttle.
It does affect the sound a lot on some cars. On my COLT CZT Turbo you could barely hear the turbo or stock dump valve. With a sports panel filter I could clearly hear the turbo and dump valve. Now I run an open HKS filter and it's ridiculously loud. Sounds like a whip slap every time I shift gear 😂
What people fail to understand is that it may only add, let's say 5-6 hp over peak. But they might add 3-4 hp over 5k-6.5k rpms. Further, I've seen these add 10-15 in certain spots of the rpm range above stock, but it isn't at the advertised peak. Example: let's say you have 300 peak hp at 5900 Rpm. It might only give up to 304 hp. Let's say your hp at 6300 rpm is 285. Well now it might be 295. Less than peak but 10 over the previous at that higher Rpm. I've seen that pattern on a dyno.
Ive run K&N filters on most of my cars and i have found when you first remove them from the packet they never seem to have much oil on them, i have always sprayed another coating of K&N filter oil on it before i fit them to the car just to be sure.
I just put a performance air filter on my new to me lexus. It was neglected for 5 years by the previous owner, i notice slightly better responsiveness over the very dirty paper filter
@Icruz210 if you install cone air filter without all those covers that normal filrer has then it is bad for sure Without covers cone air filter sucks all hot air from the engine which means it delivers less dense air and it causes power loss instead of gain
I’m interested in these.. I know they are pricey but you never have to replace your filter again! There’s people saying their MAF got damaged from the oil.. but I saw k&n themselves do tons of tests. Anyone have any issues with these? I might just go with a standard air filter for now since my filter is very dirty lol. In the near future I’ll go for one of these bad boys 😎
I have a car with 285,000 miles always used a K&N and car still runs like a top! The oiled k&N filter catches more dirt than a restricted OEM. What proof do you have to back up your statement?
@@studentofyahawashi9341 the oil is too close to MAF sensor and that makes me paranoid plus oil looked dirtier with that filter than the WIX I put later , I ain't taking chances I'll replace the paper filter annually if I need to ,is not like is a big task to do
Kostadin Ustavalkov To each there own, but your MAF will throw a check engine light if it gets oil/dirt. I have them on both my lexus cars, and truck. I’ve never had an issue with MAF sensors on either vehicles. Plus my intake manifold stays just as clean with an OEM filter. The key is not to over oil the K&N filter, and let it dry before installing it when dirty. I just take compressed air and blow them out, then give it a few sprays of oil...G2G.
Overoiling is as bad as underoiling I think so needs to be just the right amount, eh you're right to each and their own ,that's why they have all different filters lol
@@kostadinustavalkov1902 Everything you’re paranoid about are just myth/rumors about this filter. Go onto the K&N website and they explain everything. They did further testing with similar complaints and they confirmed that the air filter had nothing to do with the maf sensors failing. Also yes it lets more air in but that’s what the oil is for to catch dust. Just as good as a paper one. At least I hope lmao
I enjoyed your video. I'm considering buying a filter for my IS220 diesel. When you installed your filter did you get any dashboard engine check lights?
I get choo choo sounds from my turbo lol maptune performance cold air intake/ turbo back exhaust/and a Mitsubishi Td04-14T small but is pretty good at making boost. - raced a Audi A4 with similar 2.0T engine I won
U glavnom. Ne bacaj pare. I sačuvaj motor.
I am staying away from the K&N as i have been told these filters have some type of "oil's" in them that travel into the throttle body and intake manifold and could be damaging. Can someone confirm this?
This is just a myth/Rumor, go onto the K&N website and they explain everything. Over the complaints they got about this situation, they did further testing and confirmed the air filter had absolutely nothing to do with the maf sensors failing and oil going into the engine further. They even over oiled an air filter and tested it like that for awhile and no oil was shown going into the throttle body or manifold. At least I hope lmao.
Your english is very good... the vocabulary... Where did you learn.? I bought an IS 250 last month and following your videos . The K& N Filter seems to be something useful to buy. Thanks from Germany
Thank you, I learned from young age because I watched cartoons a lot. For more of my Lexus IS250 videos check my playlist: ru-vid.com/group/PLQFLqxa97AuwrCdSPdZAojQaMQf_Cc0Ep Thanks from Serbia!
