Just bought a K&N filter for my car, 2013 Ford Fusion and my fuel economy started going up immediately. Not sure about horse power or torque but happy with the improved mpg.

You are also supposed to reset the ecu while installing the k&n filter as per the instructions on the paper inside the box. Which means disconnect the negative battery cable onnthe car then install the filter once installed re hook up the negative battery cable. Then start the car let idle 10min then drive. This will force the ecu to re learn the new air/fuel ratio.

Enjoyed the video but for those watching, you should watch other comparison videos too cause some show improvements, others don’t. Then just go with whatever you feel is best. I replaced mine with a K&N air filter and noticed an increase in acceleration immediately.

Does the K&N filter have a negative effect on e.g. a turbine? Or something else, how is it really? greetings

every used car i have had i installed brand new K&N, instant small medium power and mileage increase. except my newer vehicles and more powreful out put. always will use k&N anyway, as well as castrol for oil.

I have swapped a 1.5 litres motor into my car, but the old ECU were still 1.3 litres config, with stock filter the motor wasnt smooth and jerked a little. By using an open pod airfilter it became so smooth and significantly responsive.

I just purchased a 2010 Lexus SI250 with a 107K great runner It was well maintained. Today I purchased the K&N air filter and cabin filter for $118. Before I decided to swap out my stock filter my car at idle was sort of ruff. After switching I noticed an incredible difference in how my car idled engine noise was much quieter and my acceleration was noticeable but not a huge deal. I have a V6 250 HP but my main concern was my engine running efficiently. It was definitely worth the $118 on both the air filter and the cabin filter. My car runs like it has 15k miles on it. I highly recommend it.

GREAT video !! The 3 steps in speed calculations provides an excellent testing method, which allows averaging of the 2 runs for each type of filter. The most interesting part is that, after averaging, the K&N was only faster in the 60kph range, and only by .04 kph !! Your test showed that the new K&N filter was actually slower than the clogged-up stocker. WTF ?? The K&N was cleaner, and it leaned out the fuel mixture, giving better economy (which wasn't measured), but providing less power, which explains the K&N's slower times during the test runs. The K&N is an excellent filter, and the ONLY filter that WORKS WHEN WET, -- BUT -- I don't recommend the K&N filter for Fuel Injected engines, due to too many problems with MAF Sensors and faulty cleaning/oiling methods used by ignorant cheapskates. I have used K&N filters since the mid-'70s, in several vehicles, including my 4x4 desert racer, and the filters are the absolute best for off-roading, where deep water and/or heavy downpours will clog a paper filter instantly. WIX makes filters for just about every vehicle, they are of excellent quality, and they are available everywhere. I would recommend the WIX Air Filters for all street-driven vehicles -- change them yearly.

It all depends on the car that you’re using tho. I just changed my dodge charger’s filter with a K&N filter, my MPG improved and the sound really changed when it hit the 3 or 4 rpm.

I just installed one in my 2001 Smart Fortwo. I have to say that I do feel better throttle response as well as acceleration. The engine is turbocharged so I guess it benefits more from the filter.

Ok I had a stock 2000 civic lx with the weak motor. Was kinda slow. Then I switch the stock air filter the the k&n and I really noticed an improvement in power.

Change to hurricane air filter, can feel breath better but need to clean throttle body after a while. Change a custom closed pod intake n my car suffer during acceleration. Now back to stock intake with mugen grill is my best option. My itchy hand wants to try k&n but thanks for ur review.

What about dust and small particles filtration? That's the purpose of a filter right?

you need to run the car for a while for your ecu to learn the change in airflow, & itl adjust & run better. it should be better even if only by .1 or .2 sec fasyer

I would question the results, when you dropped in the new filter the stock ECU will need time to adjust to the new airflow via the sensor to adjust fuelling etc. Just curious to how quick the test for the k&n was conducted after change

You should do a one gear pull, say 3rd, from 50-90 or something like that. Eliminate the shifting variable and also it's more likely to effect top end.

So......I definitely agree with you. However......sometimes there is a learning curve for the ecu to self adjust to the extra air. Just my 2 cents. Good video though!

expect to get substantial hp, not only change K&N but also modify exhausted to catless downpipe and ECU tuning as well. Actually, a NA engine can't help much of hp unless your vehicle is a turbo engine.

Who cares about the mile an hour faster your gonna get. I care how well my motor breathes with K&n!

Depend on the vehicle my air filter on my Ford fiesta was huge the k&n its half of the stock and he did make difference better sound slightly better acceleration......

is this test made prior to the ecu tune?

I swapped mine out recently. The only reason I swapped it is because I didn't want to rely on stp filters anymore and the oem filters are so expensive they'll cost me more than k&n. Also the stp filter plastic connector meant to work on my car melted a bit. I wouldn't have known until I changed the filter.

And get rid of the air filter box, the enclosure is a factor in the possible power range possible. I have a truck and added a K&N mushroom filter and at start up you hear a difference and I get a small improvement in the throttle response. No ECU tune added.

I recently installed a K&N cold air intake (for 2020 Camare SS)and while it has better top end throttle response, i didn't really notice any HP/Torque gains...I agree that a tune is needed. The intake also makes a whistling noise when I accelerate.

I put a k&n on a new mr triton. The first car I have had that responds to a filter change. I get them because I rewash and clean filter regularly not really for performance but in the new Triton definitely spools earlier

How about experiment on throtal with colent heating and throtal with colent by pass It made clear difference for me the car is more responsive I live in very hot climat so throtal heating is bad Idea

I’m pretty sure you need to compare a brand new filter stock ( not dirty) to the K&N filter. And… you won’t see performance gains right away with a K&N until the ECU learns to adjust throttle mapping after a few highway city drives fast slow etc. flawed test.

I think if the stock filter has a lot of folds, it will restrict flow. The K&N have less folds so less air resistance. This is what i find on the Z4 E89 comparing a Bosch filter to K&N.

Test in 4th Gear from 60-100 or 5th Gear 80-120 and you will see a difference. Especially at low rpm,the k&N Filter will give a more direct answere to the gas pedal.... If you have a Turbo engine,the turbo leak of Power at low rpm will be smaller.

Your car; your rules, simple as that.

I assume you did not spray any oil when apply the filter and also your ecu needs time to learn and adjust it after you switched the air filter so i dont think the result is accurate.

You're testing a cold engine vs a hot one. That is why your first run was so fast to 100km. The engine had tighter tolerances when you first started, thus more compression and so more pep.

Tbose filter pass way more silica particles. While you gaon a tiny amount of throttle response, down the road your engine internals will get premature wear.

I tried it one time, EH. I went back to OEM. If you DON'T clean it well and put the correct amount of oil it will destroy your mass flow air sensor. before someone jumps on me notice I said correct amount of oil

Even if u have the best air filter out there but the MAF settings still on stock i think its useless CMIIW

I used the k&n filter for a few years . It collected a lot of carbon on the filter and went to the throttle body and plate due to the tiny holes in the k&n filter, went with wix filter and made a huge difference performance wise after I cleaned out my intake . No more k&n

I was a k&n non-believer but mostly you have to wait for the MAF sensor to utilize the extra air. Even then, maybe 6 ponies if you had a dirty ass air filter. You won’t be able to tell the difference. But the sound is better. It’s not hard to beat oiled paper, let’s be real.

I don't think you can do comparison like this. You need to cover a good distance over time before you can make any conclusions. From my own personal experience with these performance filters, I think in terms of power gain, you will not get a lot and differ between cars. I do however noticed a slight improvement in fuel economy. And power delivery through the rev range and with different conditions with the performance filter is a lot more stable or predictable.

You should have used an new OEM filter vs K&N instead of your old dirty air filter that probably restricted air flow.

Makes quite a big difference on the fiesta 1.0 ecoboost red edition , got my wife's hp up from just under 140bhp to 150.4 bhp on a Dyno with out a remap so it works on that car , I think these things work much better on turbo cars though . An earlier 1.6 zetec s owned by a friend made 2.5hp , although sharpens the throttle response abit and improved mpg abit too , swings and roundabouts with drop in filters.

K&N is way better than any paper air filter. Whether it’d be from the dealer or after market. And K&N is a reusable air filter.

Minimal gain might show on a dyno. Not seat of the pants.

If I am not mistaken in order to fully receive the benefits from your "high flow air filter" you need a tune/re-tune. Also turbocharged and supercharged cars benefit the most from these not N/A.

K & N filter actually give me better fuel mileage don’t care what these people say do your own test. The oil on the filter destroyed your maf sensor not the filter itself just clean up the oil and u be fine. K&N filter is also half the size of the stock filter so if u want a thin filter consider that. It’s also less expensive than a new cold air intake which only give 5 hp anyway. If run no filter all that dust will go in your engine smart guy.

If the computer isn't adjusted to the new filter then it will put the same amount of fuel so your car is running lean so yean unless it gets tuned its worst
