K-tech suspension install and review - KNOX Suzuki GSXR 750 Project
Welcome back to the Knox Suzuki GSXR 750 road/track project bike series. In this episode, we get into installing and giving first impressions about the addition of KTech suspension to the bike.
Having ridden some seriously awesome bikes last year, in particular the KTM 890 Duke R which had a phenomenal suspension set up, my eyes were opened to how good a bike could feel with sorted suspension.
Getting back on the GSXR 750 and after a few track days last year, it became clear to me that the GSXR had some areas to improve upon in the suspension department in order to make it better on road and on track. A bit of internet research and phone calls later and I found TW suspension tech, a suspension specialist who could help me out. After some consultation, I opted for:
- K-Tech DDS Lite shock with springs to my weight in the rear.
- K-Tech SSK Piston kit with springs to my weight in the front.
www.ktechsuspension.com/race/
Initial road going (in the winter) impressions and review of the K tech DDS Lite shock and K tech SSK piston kit with springs has been excellent, providing a firm set up with much more braking support and less weight transfer than I’d experienced on the GSXR 750 before, but removing quite a lot of the crashiness of the old set up. The bike now feels like the its got race pedigree and is ready to go hunting down some bigger bikes!!
Next month we have our first track day booked and it will be super exciting to see how much of an improvement the new set up makes once we get to push a bit harder! Make sure you are subscribed to the channel because I'll be giving an update as and when we do this. Hope this has been insightful and helpful to anyone who is considering making aftermarket suspension upgrades to their bikes.
Thanks for watching, please like comment and subscribe and we’ll see you next time.
Thanks,
Aaron KNOX

Different creatures entirely, but I've been thinking that aftermarket suspension upgrades are in the future for my very crashy CB1000R. Good to see how excited the upgrades have made you about riding the bike! Much to consider!! Cheers!

Thanks Andy! I think suspension upgrades are kind of universally good no matter what machine you are on, my suspicion is an aftermarket kit could rid your CB of crashiness, definitely worth a chat with Teut @ TW suspension Tech. My gsxr is now starting to feel like a real weapon and can't wait to get it back on track next month! Aaron Knox

Looking at that travel on the front under braking I think going for the cartridge kit would still be wise. But I guess you'll know for sure on track...

K Tech are fabulous if you've only ever ridden on stock suspension its a night and day difference, was rumoured the OEM's paid around 50 dollars for a rear shock unit on this era sportsbike 😱.

It is a big difference and now feels like it's going to be proper fast!! Wow $50... not going to say I dont believe it though 🤯. Thanks Aaron Knox

K-Tech pro also has an adjuster the lite does not. It's called BPV adjustment which is By Pass Valve which is worth while for track rider.

Interesting to know someone’s first hand experience on after market suspension acquisition. Surely before dropping all that cash on suspension you would have put braided brake lines on long before. Its one of the cheapest and easiest worth while upgrades in “making the bike the best it can be”. Not hating, I would love some k tech goodness too. Thanks for the vid.

Thanks Chris, I put braided lines on too and different pads, ru-vid.com/group/PLtHHPA1Rg9AsQAKSdgi8bOwucwsv74Hbp. Just in a slightly different order. Based on the difference the two upgrades have made, if I was doing it again, Ktech suspension would still be my first priority over anything else as it makes the biggest difference of any of the upgrades Ive done. Thanks, Aaron KNOX

I have the same bike which is a track only bike and I’m about to start to race. I sadly run the stock soft suspension which i have out grown. I would love to know your first impressions when comparing the stock with the Ktech on track.

Thats great, which championship are you racing in? Interested as the 750 only fits against 1000cc now. Anyway, we'll be posting a finale video soon on the build and going into each detail. However, as an update, I can say that the suspension upgrades have been the most impressive thing done to the bike and totally transformed the way it handles on track! It hold such a tight line now and has made the GSXR incredible on track, yes, it costs quite a bit but definitely worth it! Thanks, Aaron KNOX

@@KnoxArmour Hey mate, i'm in Australia, i'm doing local club racing in QLD. Yes, the category will be F1 clubman which puts me in the mix with 1000cc bikes. No free ride with the 750 unfortunately but being a smaller tighter track the 750 isn't that disadvantaged. Im very much leaning towards the Ktech lite rear shock, and some better valving and springs on the forks. I cannot wait to have it installed. The rest of the bike has had everything i want done, I knew suspension was important and yet have stupidly left it till last. Being able to hold a tighter line will be great, also really want it to feel more stable under heavy braking and not dive and lift the rear. The local tracks are littered with bumps and being able to keep the bike composed through bumpy fast sections would be most welcome and give tons more confidence to push harder. Looking forward to the video mate, cheers!!

Is there anyway to know if a set of forks have a cartridge kit or just springs and piston kit?
@KnoxArmour
@KnoxArmour Год назад
If the bike is stock, then you could check the owners manual. If it is aftermarket, normally a cartridge kit will have different preload adjusters on the top of the fork that should tell you what brand and model the cartridge kit in. Thanks, Aaron KNOX

@@Bow-to-the-absurd totally agree! You can ride on a GSXR750 on the road and think "I don't get it", but then put it on the track and all of a sudden it sinks in... its at home on the track! 😅

@@KnoxArmour well that does tell a lot. I hadn't heard of KTech before being fairly new to motorcycling. Are they reputable and how are you enjoying the quality
@KnoxArmour
@KnoxArmour Год назад
@@carlosvejar3938 yes they are entirely reputable and make excellent suspension systems, very comparable to brands such as Ohlins. However, in all honesty, all of the premium suspension component suppliers make excellent stuff. Ive now used race spec ohlins, Ktech and Nitron and its all very very good and a massive improvement to stock. What is very important, is the set up and getting the correct weight springs etc. Hope that helps, Aaron KNOX
