Hey folks, In this video I discuss a couple of things related to the typing experience of each of these keyboards.
I've also put out another video of all of these with just the sounds of the keyboards. So if you want me to shut up and just type, that's the one for you.
Here's the typing test video: • Typing tests K1 Gatero...

I'm glad you found the video helpful! The mouse is called "Swiftpoint GT". I've used it for years and it works great. I wouldn't go back to a normal mouse. You can find it on Amazon right now - there's only 1 left though. Check eBay if you don't get that one. There are newer versions too, but they cost a bit more. I haven't used any of those yet. Anyway, good luck. Thanks for stopping by! I'll have to make that video when I get some time.

I just got mine in the mail with the red switches but they feel kinda mushy. what switches would you recommend to avoid that
@lloydsaul997
@lloydsaul997 Год назад
Hey Miguel I personally really like the brown switches. Did you get the hot-swappable K3? You might like the blue switches too, but they're very 'clicky' and can get noisy / distracting. Some people really like that though. Browns have a 'bump' when typing, but don't make as much noise, so it's a good balance.

@lloydsaul997

I personally really like the browns. If you have Gateron, go with brown. If you have optical, then they released a switch called "Mint" that needs more pressure, so you may like that. I haven't used it though.

If I were to purchase either the Keychron optical browns or Gateron mechanical browns, which would you recommend, the optical or non-optical? Would you say the optical is better due to speed/durability? Are there any other differences? Thanks!
@lloydsaul997
@lloydsaul997 3 года назад
Hey George, which keyboard were you thinking? The K1 and K3 are very different. The keyboard body affects the feel. If you are getting them for gaming, the opticals are supposed to be much faster. They're supposed to last much longer too. I'm sure there are videos out there comparing the feel of the optical / gateron. So I'd find something like that and judge it based on what's most important. I wish I had the optical browns to give you a quick comparison, but I think they are still on backorder.

Do you know if this keyboard can come in a true UK layout? As in the @ symbol near the enter key, the £ on the 3 key etc? I have seen some keyboards that say UK layout but, it's american and just features a £ symbol.

My browns don't sound like this at all. They feel mushy and the sound is damper than the keyboard on my macbook pro. Maybe I got a bad copy of the k1 v4? Anyone else notice this? I saw that a few reviews on amazon also shared this sentiment.
@lloydsaul997

I would contact Keychron and exchange it. I've had mine for a few months now and they still sound/work well. The brown keys are great in my experience.

@@lloydsaul997 Thanks for the rec Lloyd! I bought another one just incase my brown was a bad copy and I also bought the blues incase that's how clicky i needed to go with these low profile switches to get the same feel o my cherry mx browns. After this, if I haven't landed on a satisfactory conclusion I will definitely reach out to the company. It's weird cause the delete and return keys on my current brown switch keyboard is awesome. I wish that was the feel for every single key but that just doesn't happen to be the case.

Which switch is your personal fave for typing? My first mechanical KB is a blue switch and I like the noisy clicks of it. But i'm sure other people in Zoom calls hated the sound it makes LOL! Now I'm using red switch and I feel weird about it. It feels something is lacking and mushy? Haha do you think browns will have that same typing experience with the blues with less noise?
@seyyedmohammadaminbineshta8822

I am also a Blue switch fan and while the browns are more tactile than red, they just can't replace the blues for me... Mechanical keyboards are generally louder than rubber dome switches anyway, so I recommend a rubber dome keyboard for office use and a blue switch at home so you can happily click away all you want
@lloydsaul997
@lloydsaul997 3 года назад
I've been enjoying the Brown switches. They have the best balance between feel/sound for me. I completely agree about the "mushiness" of the red switches. They just aren't that satisfying to use, and they aren't great for quick typing either. I'm using the K1 with Gateron Browns as my main keyboard. I don't think they feel as good as the Blues, but the clickiness of the Blues is distracting to me. Stick with Blues though if you don't mind the sound, they have the best overall feel imo.

nice video. exactly what i'm looking for. I love Apple keyboard and I've been using it for years. Recently, I was thinking to get a hand on K1 keyboard. Do you think it'd be hard to switch to K1 keyboard with red switches from Apple one? Btw, K1 V5 is coming. I was told V5 will have same switches as K3. FYI~~!
@lloydsaul997
@lloydsaul997 2 года назад
Cool, appreciate that. Well, the K1 has been great, it was easy to adjust because it has the Mac key mapping. The height may be difficult though. If you are concerned about the size, you may consider the K3, which I believe is slimmer. It's on the 2nd version now. I personally didn't like the red switches, because I prefer the tactile feedback of brown. If you're a fast typer though, you might prefer red. Definitely a different feel than Mac slim keyboard.
@eddieliao1500
@eddieliao1500 2 года назад
Thanks for sharing. Size of keyboard is not an issue for me. I love full size keyboard. But this time, I might consider getting a 80% one. What I was worried about is the height of keyboard and key travel distance. That's why I want to try a low profile keyboard to minimize my concern. I would probably wait for the K1 V5 version. The optical switch has lower travel distance than the Gateron switch. It might help, I supposed. ^^ As for the switch, you are right. I do want to get the red switch. But I do hope I could find a store that I can actually try before purchasing.

Hey man, thanks for the comparison. I think some timestamps might help though! Btw! Can I offer you something? I ordered the K4 v2 and the K3 at the same time, but paid shipping for both as I wanted the K4 right away. However, I decided to go with another board and canceled my K3. Thanks for the comparison! I was wondering, when the light is off, do you prefer the k3 color scheme over the k1? I refer to the light grey/dark grey key caps: on white backlit letters are light grey and on RGB letters are dark grey. Is the text on the light grey caps on the k1 difficult to read when the light is off? Do you think it could be an issue under lights/sun?
@lloydsaul997
@lloydsaul997 3 года назад
Glad to help. I tend to leave the backlight on with the lowest setting. For the K1 I have the white backlight, and I think it looks great. It can be a bit hard to read without the backlight, depending on the lighting in your room. It would probably be fine under brighter lights. I think I prefer the overall look of the K1, and the lighter keycaps on the inside look better imo. K3 still looks good though. Just K1 has an amazing design.
