I wish you addressed a few more items, such as, seat heights and adjustability, weight distribution (top heavy or LC of Gravity), Reverse Gears if there are any ( LT is a very heavy bike), potential problems and estimated repair costs etc. A lot of us will appreciate such feedback.
I own a R1100 RT, year 2000 with 101k miles, and was thinking to get a used K1200LT. Well, after your video where I can see them side by side, I'll keep the RT for another 100k miles. I'll spare myself many many troubles.
Nice video. I'm a R1100RT owner ( +/- 60.00 km) and I love this bike. I have also a R1100 RS (100.000 km.). For travelling the RT is the best; for fun driving the RS ( you have an quicker response on 2th an 3th gear than the RT)
I think you are very right, RT is a great bike for travel specially with the upright seating position and all the options like adjustble windscreen and panniers.
how does the RT compares to the RS? i'm debating either (RT is more available than the RS), but i already have a "sportier" Sport touring bike (VFR800) so i'm leaning more toward the RT for longer distances or 2-up just not sure if a 620lbs full on touring bike is right for me but i've always liked how look and sound and i know the R1100 is bullet proof
@@raoufhakam5936 I had VFR800 for few years, the only issue i had was the position which was a bit leaning forward causing wrist pain on longer trips. RT has a more sit up position.
K1200LT was made between 1999 and 2009 (not 2008 as you said) and it was redesigned for the 2005 model year. It got more HPs, better front stability at low speed, a different dash, an electric center stand, and few minor cosmetic improvements. I had a 2004 and a 2008 model which was much better riding and handling in general.
According to Wikipedia K1200LT was produced between 1999 & 2010. So not even 2009... here is the link. it.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_K1200_LT Yes, some improvements made in 2005, I rode the 2005 model too but the handling improvements was not so apparent. Electric centre stand was a good addition as the bike is super heavy.
I have owned a 2004 K1200 and now have a 1996 R1100RT - they are about as opposite as black and white. The RT rides very nice has good power and while it is European and therefore upside down and backwards design it is easy to work on. As with all BMW even minor adjustments or repairs require almost complete disassembly. Handlebar switches are goofy and take some time to get used to. On the other side the K1200 is a complete turd and the absolute worst bike I have ever owned. Just adding coolant is a 4 hour job. Why did I buy these - to sell them so I can buy anything else.
Mine does not, at least 2004 - 2005 does not , but reaching the battery is easy, it's under the seat. There are 2 Auxiliary plugs for boot heater and one on the pillion back rest.
It does have a reverse and post 2003 years, have the automatic centre stand which is perfect. But again if you come off the bike trying to park, you ll notice the difference.
