4.5 liters = 4.76 quarts so putting in 5 will definitely result in an overfill. Does an extra quarter quart matter? Probably not, but I generally like to put in what the manufacturer recommends.
Shell rotella T6 5W-40 meets JASO MA-2, it's a lot cheaper and every walmart sells it. no reason not to use it if you are chaning at 3000 mile interval. In hotter days, I just use Mobil-1 15W-50, it's full synthetic, wet clutch safe, dirt cheap, and will make your bike run smoother than ever lol
Appreciate that. No issues with it I take it? I have to add about half a quart to 3/4 between oil changes using the BMW oil. Do u have to do the same? Someone on the forms told me going to Castrol solved his problem never having to top off because of some additive that is in Castrol, is that true?
I don't know about an additive solving oil consumption. I only topped-off to bring it to the Max line, just a small amount (it was NOT to the add line). As I recall the bike had less than 10,000 miles. I have near 30,000 now and have not had to top off between oil changes. I do however change oil at 3000 mile intervals. If I used the 6000 mile interval maybe I would add between changes.
