John I'm eagerly awaiting some new machining videos. I really admire anyone who can learn morse code. I have tried many times to learn it for 50 years but just like typing I just can't get the hang of it. Lonnie

The ignition points on Harleys was set at 30 thousandths....Give or take...No feeler gauge? A dollar bill dragged between the points was just the right thickness..

Just ordered one of these keys. This video was very helpful in explaining the very simple construction.

My paddles felt a little sloppy. So I placed a sleeve over the vertical pins. What I used was a plastic straw cut in half slide inside the paddle pivot point arm. This made the joint just a little tighter which feels much better me. But still a super key for the money. 73 wd4dda PS: I’m at 165 on my DXCC awards.

Preston, that's a great idea. I am going to do the same thing. ~John

I agree. I made the exact same modification to mine. Much better feel now.

I just saw this video today. Ironically I bought this same 3D printed paddle 3 weeks ago. I've never owned a paddle before so I'm still learning the technique and have nothing to compare it to, but for $30 it's exceeded my expectations in quality of construction. I am definitely going to try the partial straw suggestion to reduce the bit of up and down play in the paddles. KZ9V

I've been very please with mine, after I relocated the magnets.

I got a vaguely similar paddle from China for around the same price, and wish I'd gotten this one instead. The Chinese key uses springs, not magnets, and the plastic they used is so soft, it's difficult to tell when you've made a good contact from the flex of the paddle. It's a good idea, but the Chinese version is badly implemented. Maybe this paddle uses a better or more rigid type of filament? Do you note much flex in the paddle material when using it?

Gwen, Thanks for watching. The paddle is sturdy and no flex in the paddle. One thing I did not mention is the slightly noticeable "plastic" sound when using the paddle as each paddle touches the contacts. Nothing bad, just noticeable. ~John

The 3D printer details of those keys that the Chinese copied are on Thingiverse: www.thingiverse.com/thing:1745954/remixes Maybe just get a friend with a printer to make you 2 new paddles in a different material? (But surely if you hear a sidetone, you KNOW you've made good contact!?)

The paddles are plastic so yes if you press hard enough there is some flex. It's not the same feeling as a solid metal Bencher or my Vibroplex, but it certainly works.

Ordered mine yesterday, when the XYL saw the email I forwarded from the company , she said. Just how many code keys do you need? I told her the truth, I don’t know. 😁 Her response was, well it cost a lot less than the last one. 73 wd4dda
