I'm very curious about what the female solo dancer has on her feet. Does anyone know what they are called and the purpose of them in the dance? They look like they're made of carved wood. They also look like they're about 4 to 6 inches in height and the dancer not only has to keep balance on them but also has to shuffle her feet to keep moving. So does anyone know?
It's not only the solo dancer, all females wore the platforms. They just made a point of showing her feet, as she is a solo dancer. The shoes are a sign of aristocracy, only noble women wore those platforms. Taking them off for someone is a gesture of a great respect, which in this case, she is showing to her dancing partner.
As far as I know the wooden shoe she is wearing is called NALIN. ( in Turkish language ) If you google it you find several examples of them. Main purpose of it -in old times- to keep the clothes from dirty water etc. As you see she is wearing wery long dress which can touch the ground easily if she does not wear them. It may also serve to restrict her paces to make her look more elegant and posture conscious.
@@judycook4314 It might be. I am no expert on their social protocols but it seems to depict a wedding ceremony. Leading lady's dress is more elegant than others much like a wedding gown.
@@FWCONDOR its name is psı kafe .can mean water dance.those who dance in the middle are Circassian nobles. This dance symbolizes nobility and elegance.
The name of the feet (pkhavaqa) is made of wood. Teenage girls and women wear it. To protect the foot from the countryside and prevent the growth of their feet.
It is a tribute to an old tradition, where the hands shouldnt be shown, when there is a Thamade (Elder) in the near. This is only for this session to mention it. There are dances without too. In the faster caucasian dance types are hand movement and possioning very important and astetic. It is a huge part of the dance culture.
