Kade Ruotolo vs Lachlan Giles | 2022 ADCC World Championships 

That’s the thing about guard retention. You can have the best guard retention but the problem is being on bottom. Because maybe the first guard pass won’t go thru but the 5th 6th or 7th will go thru as you just saw. It was only a matter of time before Kade passed his guard.

But he was aggressive, Kade had some close calls but found his way out.... And a think giles got maybe tired or lazy fustrate and Kade is pure caos if you have a fail a hole in your defence he will finish.

Jiu Jitsu turned in to a game more then an efficient martial art. Imagine a guy on the floor spinning his ass 360 degrees in a real fight. He would be kicked like a soccer ball..

And i grew up watching a trully efficient martial art turn in to a guy spinning his ass 360 degrees, like a dog on the floor. @@lukerodriguez7908 yes but somehow they would still manage to wrap you up like a pretzel and destroy all of your joints in under 15 seconds. Don’t make the mistake of thinking it’s just a game. The amount of training they do still makes them more agile and aggressive than most wrestlers and boxers.

He actually got some good entry but kade made his way out, but giles was been aggressive all the time, giles always go for the finish thats what made him one off the best fighter to watch

​@futbolusa until the finish kade was most off the time scaping off the leg entanglement some got really close but he was able to escape and find a hole in giles mistake and submitted, but he was the one on the defense most off time

Giles disse q nem ele sabe explicar de onde veio se ele deu mole ou se ficou relaxado na defesa no final, até então ele estava atacando mais até, chegou perto umas duas vezes uma acho até q o kade chegou a sentir mas conseguiu escapar depois do nada me apronta esse armlock do nada acabando a luta... Ele deve ter enxergado essa porra bem antes só esperou o tempo certo.

Play it back at 0.25x speed. You’ll see that there was only one semi-hard contact (and this is a contact sport) to the head as Ruotolo was attempting to secure the top leg over Giles’ head. Everything else was just a fight between Giles shoving off the leg and Ruotolo attempting to replace it.

Just the first one was a little bit harder but nothing to much, some guys are much more aggressive in colar tiers really slapping the opponent.

I was seeing a lot of “sport Bjj”.

About 3:10 giles almost get the camera and his face look like he was totally in control seems like would a matter off time but kade kepping scaping and that armbar so fast.

My thoughts are you took the inversion up the you know what.

I think it's mostly scrappiness and will that wins him matches because he's not known for having smooth, clean techniques.

ADCC rules are not exact BJJ rules, these are all sports. The competitors at these high level events would annihilate the general population, everyone but legit MMA fighters. Giles knew his best bet was to avoid a standing match with young, strong Kade. It's just playing to a rule set if you want to win.

This is a sport. Go challenge Lachlan to a fistfight the next time he's in the US. See how much ass you have to laugh off after that.

We have weight classes for a reason, and eventhough he is Great at bjj i doubt he has ever been punched in the face. I'm 6'3 230 29 year old for referance 🫡

@@jonasjorgensen8759 As coach at Absolute MMA, I'd say he isn't going to be a pushover either. All my points about ADCC , BJJ, competitors, and fighting still stands. Assuming someone would fight a certain way because of the way they try to win a world level non-striking event is just incorrect.

It’s easier to enter into k guard/inversions. Giles got to the legs and even snagged a heel hook from inverting. Just got caught with that armbar, super exciting match though.

@@Spiritof_76 Lachlan's defense was significantly tampering Rutolo's offense. So much that it was disruptive, Rutolo couldn't create a meaningful chain of attacks that forced Lachlan to the same thing he was doing, which was to disengage. Rutolo was forced to continuously disengage in order to stay in the match. The jiujitsu vs jiujitsu battle is such that one is forced to fight their way through their opponent's fortress. Rutolo didn't have an answer for Lachlan's guard, otherwise we would've seen a pass or Lachlan fighting to recover. In the absence of this, it deducible that if Rutolo would've been forced to engage Lachlan continuously he would've lost the match. However, just like a chess match, sometimes the higher rated player gets hasty and creates an unnecessary overextension that his lower-rated can take advantage of. This match is clear example of this.

@@manuelcarpio-fl2pz I love Lachlan and his style but clearly he did not have the match lol. I think you're greatly undermining the jiu jitsu and composure Kade was displaying in his impressive leg lock defence when he was in numerous deep and dangerous entanglements.

@@manuelcarpio-fl2pz Thanks for explaining jiu-jitsu to me. After doing it for over 20 years, I wasn't quite sure that I understood the goal or purpose. But your jiu-jitsu vs. jiu-jitsu comment was irrelevant when Kade hit the armbar. Giles is a badass, and his leglock entries are slick. But he lost to a young, strong, crafty, athletic opponent who escaped his submissions. Giles elevated the whole sport with his ADCC appearances and young guys built on it.

@@Spiritof_76 Contrary to popular belief, time in training in jiu-jitsu does not necessarily translate to a proportional measurement in skill acquisition or progression. Hence, why there exists black belts with over 20 years of training who are technically outclassed by lower belts with significantly less training. Everything can be expressed mathematically, and we can do the same with jiujitsu. Therefore, we can quantify what happened in this match. For the simple minded, your narrative works just fine. For the people who are less impressed and more involved in the impression is different.

on the other hand, I think Giles could have slipped the leg if he didn't have to block the incoming heel strikes
