I ordered one! Thank you, have been looking around everywhere for a provider of those that don't take more than 3-6 months to build. they already shipped mine! incredible! by the way, thank you for your advice on exo-terra bulbs. my skink had been rubbing his nose raw from glass surfing, (one of the reasons I was looking into a vision tank) I had been trying everything, making sure his temps and humidity were ok, weight and appetite was good-- the only change was that I had ordered one of those bulbs, and within the week it was already acting strangely, but I ignored it as it still worked. You might've have really saved my skink's life, I would have never thought the bulb could hurt him! After turning it off, he's been completely back to normal. His nose even looks a lot better already.

@@ReptileMountainTV He just shed yesterday and he looks muuuch better, but he might have permanate scarring on the tip of his nose from that stress :(( -- I just hope that massive amount of UVB didn't give him any internal problems, he's been eating and pooping as usual though :) Also, the new Kages tank is amazing!! It holds humidity much better than his old glass tank, he had an easier time shedding than he ever has :D Seriously thank you again, if I didn't watch your vids I would have never figured the light thing out.

It is impressive that they can get the product shipped out so quickly. I ordered from another company, a 6‘ x 2‘ cage for my skink. It’s a great cage but it took a few months to get here. And I second to your opinion on glass versus acrylic fronts. Mine has tempered glass and it is great. I know my critter will not be getting out of there.

I have one of their wooden ones and its very nice quality. Also I believe now they only do pvc cages which have become rather popular. I also wish they showed pictures of the the heat mat cut out idk why you wouldnt. Also im sure they will read these comments talk them into making videos.

I received mine today and it seems they listened to your suggestions . I received one with indentations for the door to prevent the animanl from moving it. Also the doors are made of tempered glass

Have you had issues with substrate getting caught in the grooves for the doors? My kages enclosure had glass doors and I got terrafirma substrate from the biodude in the door grooves. That substrate has some sand in it and now every time I open or close the doors a hear the grating sound of sand scratching against glass. I've taken a shop vac, qtips, and toothpicks to these grooves but can't seem to fix the issue.

i got one very similar to this on Ebay but mine was 36x24x24 (did have a 48x24x24 also though) the directions was very vague. just a single sheet (bad photo copy) with like 8 pictures on it with 0 words lol and 0 instructions for hooking up the 2 lights, thermometer and hydrometer. no slot for an UTH, also seems to have way more ventilation than helpful for keeping the humidity up for my merauke, on both ends, fairly large, and with the sliding doors also providing ventilation. lucky for me i worked at a cabinet shop for years so was able to eventually figure it out. did have a couple of + for it though, came included with tempered glass doors, door lock, ceramic light, 24" light, digital thermometer and hydrometer. and the 4" piece across the top above the doors had 2 small slots cut just for both meters, nice snug fit, and free shipping. Pretty sure it's just some guy making the kits out of his house, not to sound ungrateful, i think he did a good job. but with Kages Custom you can see a more professional company making a quality product.

If you are going Bioactive for a Indo BTS, I keep hearing mixed opinions on whether you need a drainage layer or not, to me it's obvious you should but I'd rather get an informed opinion, what would you recommend? Got the Kages 4x2x2

You do need drainage however a skink will dig that up and stir it around. So best to have a good mix of rock and sand to allow for drainage regardless of where it end up if that makes sense.

@@ReptileMountainTV nah I understand that, alternatively couldn't you secure the extra overlapping mesh screen by somehow sticking it onto the actual enclosure itself so to prevent it from getting mangled up and moved? I was thinking of strapping the edges with sone kind of tape and adhering it to the walls.

I'm sorry if you've answered this question elsewhere, but I'm curious exactly what bulb you would use in the 4x2x2 Kage for a BTS? I assume it's probably the same as what the BioDude has for sale on his site. I'm of the days of the PowerSun, which I suppose isn't the top pick anymore? I'm wanting to upgrade to a Kage and a little unsure of the proper bulb to use with this enclosure. Also, what cage specifications/modifications would you choose when ordering?

For heat I use an energy start PAR38 90w bulb on a dimmer switch. For UV I use either zoomed T5HO 24in or Arcadia T5HO of the same size. For a BTS you can use a 10.0 from zoomed or a 12% Arcadia from that distance and get a good UVI.

At least 4x4x3 HxWxD. I believe Kages can make them as well as Toad Ranch or Custom Reptile Habitats.

How easy was it to add the light strip fixture to the ceiling of the enclosure? That is did you have to drill holes or just use a screwdriver?

@@ReptileMountainTV One other question, the site lists the space they add for a heat pad as being 10 by 10 inches, which would exclude all but small and relatively weak heat pads. Is this the case, and if so is it any issue? In the footage the recessed space looks like it could be bigger than 10 by 10 inches. Thanks in advance.

Just bought one over the weekend for 425.00 4x2x2 free shipping. I assume they just put the shipping into the cage price. I'm going to use it for a sulcata tortoise hatchling. I'm really excited just hope it comes before the sulcata lol.

You mentioned people who like to do bio active enclosures in this video, can you do this in this enclosure? Or do you need some sort of special lining or sealer?

Anything 4x2 or larger would be great. Will hold humidity well but also can be ventilated well as well.

How clear are the doors? Is it easy to keep them clean?

Very clear. They are relatively simple to wipe down. If you use the products they recommend to care for it they will be nice for a long time.

I have a 4x2x1 pvc enclosure and I want to do a bio active environment. I'm slightly concerned with having my skink to close to the basking light after adding the 4 inches or so of substrate I'll need. How close is to close in your opinion? Thanks!

As long as they can't touch the light and the area headed is evenly heated large enough for the entire skinks body to be heated that's what you want. So as it gets closer the smaller the heated area.

I haven't priced PVC but a melamine wood enclosure of the same size would cost around $100-$150 but also weigh about 4 times as much and not really last as long. I've had many...keyword "had' :-)

Great review, I bought this exact same enclosure. Could you please share what time of light fixture you mounted, is that a t5 strip and what brand is it and was it easy to mount? I think a 3 feet light fixture would look awesome.

Thanks! I mounted a T5 Zoomed fixture. It was very very simple. I think Kages now has mounting kits these days also.

I have a question about the belly heat panel. is it reading the correct temperature that will be on the hot side if it is going to be in that grove and close to the mat and going to heat the top substrate to the desired temperature ?

Great question. Use a temp gun to calibrate the difference. The end goal is for the right temp to be where the animal is sitting not what the thermostat says right?!

How about increasing the thickness of the plexiglass to make it strong enough for a large animal. Remember- we spend minutes a day trying to keep them in. They spend 24 hours a day trying to get out. 🙂

Thank you so much for this review! I’m highly considering getting this for my little one. She’s in a 40-50 gallon tank made for a bearded dragon that I’ve done my best to modify to her, and she’s 10 months old. I’m clearing the space out in my room for her, but I need to persuade my parents (my mother has had reptiles and she automatically thinks she knows everything) and my father. What is a good age to purchase this tank? And if you know of any, where can I find a stand to put this enclosure on or even a drawer I can put this on top of? I want to make sure I’m doing the best I can as she’s my first reptile EVER. Thank you so much!

Good for you for the work you are putting in. I would say that size matters more than age when it comes to upgrading. If your little one is active and doing well basking and eating and exploring then you could upgrade at anytime going forward. The key it to make sure your lizard is not fearful and unwell but thriving and engaging their environment prior to making big changes. I made my own stand with 2x4 boards and some screws but its not very pretty. I would say look for a table or desk that has the same dimensions as the cage you're buying. Also I believe KAGES makes stands as well. :-)

@@ReptileMountainTV Thank you so much. She's been very active and healthy in the set up she's in. She's on Aspen chips with a bit of coconut fiber mixed inside to a half and half ratio. Is this good for her? I never expected how in love with these animals I truly would be, and the producer of my skink has even offered to teach me to breed them! I've been doing research like crazy, and I've joined Facebook groups to learn as much as I can about these beautiful reptiles before I do anything I may regret.

It doesn't at this time but I hope to be revising it soon. The attachment for UV comes with the Arcadia lights already. Very easy to install.

Putting my enclosure together took a couple hours, but that was because I am special and don't know what my left and right are on occasion. And then we had to crack out the drill because we couldnt get the screwdriver to work correctly (again user error) 😂

Honestly a 24 inch is fine. It allows for a gradient rather than have the entire enclosure be "in the sun"

Really cool enclosure I especially love how deep it. I have an ap enclosure and I love it, good quality sturdy, but unfortunately the track is short so not much deep substrate and my Columbian tegu like to dig. Though I notice most companies cater to snakes so it is really nice to have a company that is thinking about lizards. I will look into this more. my tegu would love to be able to dig more naturally.

Our larger (tegu friendly) enclosures have taller substrate boards. Upgrading to a taller substrate board is also available for our smaller enclosures. Please checkout our website and let us know if you have any other questions.

Ummm... some species are focal deficators meaning they poop in a group and can kinda be set up to be that way.

I bought a very similar cage and I have such a hard time getting a temperature gradient. The pvc is so efficient that my cold side always goes to 83 ... :|

Yeah... you may have to drop the wattage on the heat element and raise the basking area closer to the bulb. Ive done that with previous cages where that was an issue.

Nice Review! I checked them out, I like the product, I like that they have bigger dimensions than most US companies. But the price.… I dont know? Also my Tegu would figure out how to escape out them doors within a week. But I still might get one!

Yeah they do have nice sizes! I would definitely add a stop plate for a tegu. Price is always a tough point on everything. I hear ya on that. I have never regretted spending extra money for good stuff from good people. I have regretted buying crap stuff from crap people lol. 😂😂😂 oh the crap Ive bought lol.

ReptileMountain.TV 😂 Lol I hear you loud & clear! I’ve got burned by some startups that I thought were good....😩 But these guys look legit! Also it doesn’t say on their website the max temperature? My Tegus hot spot sits between 125 -135 and please let me know if little critter’s can escape them vents from a bioactive setup. I’m either gonna bit the bullet with them or build this 6’ enclosure. My Tegu is ready for his upgrade. Thanks!

Usually the critters from the bio active will stay inside but I can't promise that. Some folks will use other methods to keep them from coming out like fine mesh over the vents and such. As far as temps I would ask Zach or Rose. My Gidgee skinks have a 125F hot area but it's elevated on rocks not on the enclosure floor....

These are perfect for tegus. We sell locks for the enclosure and keep our tegus in them, they try to escape daily but have yet to make a break.

To the people that say reptile don't use ground heat. Have you ever seen a snake or lizard laying on the road after the sunset what do you think the reptile is doing they are using ground heat to warm up and get ready to go out a hunt.

That is a good idea especially if the animal is large enough to come in contact. I do so with snakes and larger lizards. Not this species though. Not needed for these little guys.

they are nice enclosures but Kages lies about their lead times and will take your money but no guarantee they will send your enclosure

I think situations can develop that impact lead times. I would need evidence to verify lies which I have doubt. Ive not heard of them not sending an enclosure. I do know their lead times are far superior to some of the competitors as well. This year has been a challenge for small businesses.

@@ReptileMountainTV Well they are falsely advertising lead times for sure, and sent me emails saying my cage was done at each stage and it wasnt, said the email was a 'glitch' . Sounds fishy to me, different several different 'glitch emails. When i paid for it the lead time was way less, and now it's longer and there is no guarantee I will get my product as they won't give me any information on lead time now. I'm not lying(normal in your culture but not mine), there is no reason to. At least AP is honest about their lead times. Kages needs to learn from them. BUYER BEWARE
