I grew up taking my naps to this song/CD. Mom always played it for us kids... now I sing it to my daughter for bed time. I’m from New Mexico from the Navajo tribe. My clan is bitterwater. 🙏🏽

Miriel, Joanne is of Oneida people; to my knowledge, her songs are sung in in the Oneida language. The Iroquois (Haudenosaunee)people were a confederacy of five tribes initially, with a sixth tribe joining us later on. Each tribe had its own language.
@dalecrummie5818
@dalecrummie5818 8 лет назад
"Each tribe had its own language." That's odd, every Iroquois I ever talked with said they all spoke the same language, I'm Mohegan of the Algonquian Nation, which is made up of around 30 different tribes. The basis of the tribes banding together as a nation is common language, otherwise why band together if no one can understand the other.
@rebeccafontana7900
@rebeccafontana7900 8 лет назад
+Dale Crummie Yes and no. There is the Haudenosauni (which is the collective people of the "Iroquois" confederacy). Yet each nation had distinct dialects. If you go to the various websites for each nation, you can see this as the words that come up for the different languages will be different. common or shared dialect was used in the Long House gatherings, so far as I know. Yet, I am far from an expert. I might have decended from two Iroquois tribes, but I was raised far away from the homelands and customs of our people. most of what I know, I know through dreams and have had confirmed through my personal searches in an effort to learn more about the amazing tribes of my people. but... like I said... I am FAR from an expert!...LOL😉

@meerderworter9192
@meerderworter9192 5 лет назад

Do not call them redskins. I can't beleive you would say anything like that. Would you call yourself "white skin" or me, an african, "black skins"? I hate that word. If you like her voice, the respect her people. Read more on starflowerwoman, my website about the beauty of the native american women..and their plight by the white society

Why use pictures of someone else? Joanne is a beautiful woman and there's no reason why she shouldn't/couldn't represent her own work. Is it because she's not the "picturesque" Native woman? Because she's curvy? Do you know how many Native women- and women in general for that matter- are curvy? The stereotypes of Indians and women need to stop being invisible and dismantled. They are harmful to us all.
@danirox1979
@danirox1979 9 лет назад
I more wanted to point out that by using a model dressed in plains style buckskins instead of the artist we are only perpetuating stereotypes about Indians- not as multicultural, modern peoples but as historic, fictional, noble, mono-cultural characters. And she's skinny which is great-gorgeous lady- but so is the artist. And better the artist is the voice on this video- the real mccoy-

Danielle - nothing wrong with Joanne or fat, thin, skinny, large or curvy women or men for that matter, we are who we are and a product of what we eat. For me it is how behave to each other on how we should judge if we want to be friends or not. No need to get so upset, I used the photos because she told me I could, I wanted to use photos by a photographer of an reenactment and Junal was in those, she emailed me and said I could use her brothers photos so I did, I like the photos and I love this song so, hey my video, t is called artistic impression. You can make one yourself and use whatever photos you like I am sure I will enjoy it and so will others. I will not have a go at you for using a skinny, curvy, large small, tall whatever picture you want, its your video and you can do whatever you want. You can use or not use stereotypes if you wish, however I am far too old and wise to see the world in stereyotypes, there is good and there is nasty, I avoid the negative and nasty for life is too short and I would rather waste my life listening to such a beautiful voice as Joanne. I would love to meet her and listen to her tales and experiences of life. I do thank you for watching and listening and I look forward to watching your video of Joanne. As a man I can tell you Danielle I do not see curvy women as harmful to women or the best thing since sliced bread, I enjoy meeting people whatever or whoever they are and they all have a story to tell, that's what life is about not what they look like, if only look on the superficial outside you will never see the true inner beauty of a person and that's what count's. Peace be with you Danille.
