I can't call it

I worked with a guy that knew Kai. My coworker lived in Kelowna, B.C. Kai apparently spent some amount of time there for a while and was always skating around town on a longboard. This was before the hatchet incident had occurred and he always spoke of Kai as a super kind, funny and loving guy. I haven’t watched the doc yet but it’s super sad to see what has happened to him.

I come back and watch this video every once in a while because the guy has such immense talent. Rocks me every time! Note that he has no guitar, he has to go to a music store with the reporter in tow to perform.

Im from Edmonton, thats where kai is from. And his story of abuse and the system failing him is 300% beliveable. Theres 0 real help for aboriginal children and his dad was a victim of Residencial schools as well as my grandmother and it hurts her to this day. Kais story needs to be deeply analyzed. This man was a traveling dude met new people and went new places everyday. Its not hard to believe that he got into some bas situations like the hatchet incident and then having to literally murder someone for raping him. Why was he not given a rape kit? Why was the mans body found basically naked with semen and bloow that was not his own in his penis? But the blood was never tested to prove it was kais blood which would have proven he was telling the truth and the man raped him. I refuse to believe kai one day decided to murder an innocent man.

I'd buy this . There are alot of singers Rappers that aren't half as good as him that are making millions . Music was definitely his calling

Just finished watching the Netflix documentary, it's too bad he didn't get a record deal and go the music route. 3 months was all it took, partying, alcohol and drugs and he made some terrible mistakes. Unfortunately, now he's serving 57yrs in prison, which is essentially a life sentence for someone his age.

Kai's whole story, his past and how he overcame horrible circumstances to be able to say to himself that he is a good person and worth being loved is incredibly inspiring. Sometimes the ones with the least material possessions and no one are the richest people in their heart. All i can think of when watching videos of him is how similar his journey is to a Shakespearean tragedy . this free spirit is doing life because he defended himself from being drugged and raped by some old, rich new york attorney who misjudged his willpower to survive and not be victimized again like he was as a child. If that rich, jewish attorney was someone else without connections, wealth and power he would never have been handed the jail the he was given. I hope he writes a book or is helped attaining his freedom again. One love Kai stay safe brother

Honestly growing up in the 90s and alternative music. Guaranteed he would have been a big hit. He should have got a contract right away.

I was very intrigued when I first heard of Kai/Caleb last March (2013). I have watched every interview possible and listened to his entire album numerous times, and fell in love with this song, and his semi-cover of "seed" by sublime. I've spent a lot of time contemplating and empathizing with what I know about Kai. I tend to assess people in terms of their sentiment, sensibility, awareness, vibe, and ability to self-express, and I have concluded that the guy is but a victim of being born with a heart of gold in a world of shit. He was clearly born with a good soul, and talent musically and vocally. In terms of music, there is a difference between being technically gifted in musical theory and being naturally gifted with self-expression. Some vocalists sound perfect but you cannot feel it (like most pop-stars), and others might technically sound like shit but you can really feel and empathize with the emotion in the voice (bob dylan, conor oberst, chuck ragan). It may sound weird, but as far as I'm concerned, it takes a certain level of human empathy, self-awareness, and enormous love and sadness for the world, to be able to be one of the emotionally expressive vocalists. The "tortured soul" artist gimmick isn't just a gimmick. Point being, if raised in a proper home where he wasn't allegedly abused, perhaps Kai might have wound up a success and we might be buying his music on iTunes. His vision on the world and budding talent in music, even as a drifter, could be compared to some of the legends of the great hippie era. Kai was just born at the wrong time in society, or in the wrong family. A mind/heart/soul like that, whatever you want to call it, could have been amazing if nurtured - but instead it was raped so it turned into something horrible. It happens.
