I can’t speak for his other experiences but they proved he was lying because it didn’t match the time when he killed the man. It didn’t make sense that at the time he was SA, he willingly walked with the man to the ATM and gave him a hug. So it was confusing as to why he would show genuine emotion to a man that did that to him, and kill him after. Nothing in his story added up or made sense, it didn’t match the time line.

Kai was homeless at the same time that I was. Here's the thing. I spent time in shelters and on street corners with guys like this and a lot of them come across as these plucky, happy go lucky people who are just down on their luck. But with someone like him and believe me I saw my share....there's a thread of malevolence underneath what they do. They're not evil....but they're also not altogether stable and with a lot of them there is a wellspring of tremendous rage just under the surface. Respond the wrong way, appear to challenge them the wrong way, be percieved as rude and very quickly the funny, charming side disappears and the wolf underneath can come out and if you don't defuse quickly you can very quickly find yourself in a situation you weren't expecting. When I watched the documentary it reminded me immediately of that time and those people. The couple who were friends with the murdered attorney said it best "if you're going to idolize someone you better make damn sure you know who that person is first." Kai was never plucky hero guy. He was just a storm waiting to happen
I had a lot of trauma when I was an adolescent, and never saw the people that abused me held accountable. As a young adult I was exactly the same way. If I thought someone was even slightly challenging me I would ramp it up to 100 and fight back. I felt like if I didnt protect myself from any perceived threat nobody else would. Fortunately I got the help I needed and am pretty thick skinned now at 33. Poor kid never got the help that he needed
Well said. This is what I wish people would get about Kai. Desperation will make people say or do anything, and people will develop charisma to get by. As you mentioned, not evil, just damaged and all over the place.
People see what they want to see. Those viral videos of tourists visiting national parks with lots of moose or bison come to mind. They see a cute, furry animal and they can’t resist the urge to pet it. Or, at the very least, they try to get close enough for a selfie. The next thing they know, they’re fleeing in terror from a wild, territorial animal that has the power to crush them like an empty water bottle.

@Jack Jameson I think that was the point; also, did you know that Kai is still in jail; and had gone without trial for 5 years!!!! (If you don't know, this judge, took Kai to hos house for dinner. Then, he gave the man roofies, and raped him. When they caught and arrested Kai, they never gave him trial, or got a doctor to test for traits of being raped, or even signs of being drugged)

He was drinking and smoking a lot of weed and I'm pretty sure he had pre-existing mental health conditions, and he was partially in psychosis for this interview. People don't get how psychosis works and that your mind makes all these associations with symbols and different animals and characters and what you say sounds like gibberish but it makes perfect sense to you in your current state of mind. This is what I see when I watch this interview. Some of what he says is lucid but he is coming in and out of psychosis, probably induced by the weed or the drink that he had before the interview.

He’s a psychopath, but how you view a psychopath is up to you. Some can be helped, some are beyond it. It’s not even necessarily his fault he turned out this way, but he’s without question an absolute psychopath. He’d easily score 30+ on the PCL-R test. They use superficial charm, manipulate, impulsive, criminal behaviour, pathological lying, etc. Truly a sad story nonetheless.
Watch the HBO documentary about him. He admitted that he gave the driver a joint and didn’t tell him that it was laced with PCP. It was only after the driver smoked PCP that he attacked the Black guy and the women. People do all kinds of wild shit that they would never normally do while they’re on PCP. In the the interview with the reporter they asked kai if he encountered something like that and he said one time he saw a woman getting hit in some fields and he went and smashed that guy over the head too. Kai is an opportunist and he prays on older rich men who pick him up and are gay. He probably drugs them and robs them.
