I don't have a Kaigelu and, based on this video, I may have to do something about that. I also enjoy collecting and have a thing about rocks, but in my case they almost always contain fossils, mainly trilobites. Hope you're staying happy & healthy. Thanks for another excellent video to enhance our pen and ink world.
I'm falling in love with Kaigelu 316 and this video convinced me that I need to buy one. I'm a few generations younger than you (born '93) but I can totally relate to what you said about the joy of collecting. :)
@@chrisrap52 Which pen is the better one - Kaigelu 316a or Jinhao 100? I lean towards the Kaigelu but since the two models are pretty similar to each other and you own both, I'd love to hear your opinion. :)
Thanks Chris. Your videos always bring comfort. My hometown has been destroyed by a massive flood last week and I'm here trying to help. But the destruction and the misery is too much. Watching your videos in the evening helps me to stop thinking and start relaxing a little. Wishing you all the best.
I love this model. it's soooo comfortable to draw with. i only have 6 or 7 of them but i have a couple of the newest color styles on the way. cant wait to get my paws on them! i love love love these.
Keigelu seems to be stepping up the quality. Douglas from Inkquiring Minds just reviewed a gorgeous blue pen from the 356 line. I wanted to see other colours so I Iooked for other reviews. SBRE Brown reviewed a 356 5 years ago. Back then, it was cheap plastic and looked like a Baoer 388. It went for about the same price. It is a really nice looking pen now. It looks kind of like a Jinhao x750 in beautiful acrylic. The new Oriental Calligraphy nibs are a great upgrade that doesn't break the bank. I think that we just might see some great new stuff from this company over the next few months.
While I cannot evaluate engineering, nor do I really trust myself to disassemble anything (too many lost parts or leftover parts. . .:), we do share a collector mentality. I have about the number of Jinhao 100 Centennials that you have Kaigelu pens (I only have 3 or 4 Kaigelu pens, which I also like.). I am trying to give one to someone I met who was somewhat nastolgic about pens he used years ago, but the collector in me finds it hard to give up one. So, I got another like the one I was going to give him. Fortunately none of these pens break the bank. Too verbose again, as I just wanted to say that I appreciated this review a lot. It helped me look at Kaigelu’s differently. KEEP UP everything, for you enjoy life! Key at this stage of life! :)
Exactly. I am adding to my 100 collection. I have gifted some 316 & 100, duplicates or bought to review & send off. Both pens have many good features. I enjoy watching how these models evolve, now 100s have white finials. Thanks for watching, stay safe & healthy so you can enjoy more pens.
I like the gold color plate on the finial with the 12 Chinese characters. Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Though I have absolutely no idea why the 12 Chinese characters are there.
I wonder if the Kaigelu 356 is a sort of 316 in cigar version plus more cap band. Looking at the sellers photos it looks so, although the 356, for now, just in four finishes: sky blue, green teal, pink & lavender.
My friend's grandfather collected rocks and built a fireplace out of them. It was nice. Every rock had a story about where it came from. Lol, at this point you could probably build something out of pens. A fireplace wouldn't work but I bet you could build a patio set.
I’m hooked on your reviews! I really appreciate the range in pens you review. It would be interesting if you could enumerate all the pens that rated 10! (Then I could go buy all of them. Lol)
As much as I have enjoyed the 2 316s I have, I have not been too enamored with their nibs. I have 2+3 Long Knife Grinding Tip Nibs (2 separate orders) , and all 5 have been quite disappointing. They are supposed to be akin to an Architect grind, but all are scratchy and very dry. Only Bobby's Architect Nibs have been great right from the start. You mentioned that you have 6 of those Kaigelu Long Knife ones, what has been your experience? Thank you for your as always great content.
I showed Long Knife writing in previous 316 video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C8AE_Z_7Neg.html I like the nib. Can't see how they could be dry.
@@chrisrap52 I have watched that video, and indeed that nib was not looking dry. It may be the inks I have been using, a Waterman and a J. Herbin Lie de Thee (Browns). As I had the nib on a Brown Moonman Q1, they were an appropriate combo. No issues with a WinSung M. I will try again with a Sepia Pilot Pigment ink, that is usually quite wet. Thank you for responding. Looking forward to the next in your series.
I was not lucky enough to get a PenBBS nib. Worth getting depends on what nibs you like. See it writing - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C8AE_Z_7Neg.html
Hi Chris, Have you heard "Lanbitou Press-type Fountain Pen"? Seems like a clone of Platinum's capless pen. I saw it on AliExpress and I am wondering if you are aware of it. Cheers...
I bought one… it’s a piece of junk. Highly recommend to avoid. There are many really good Chinese pens of which Chris has reviewed many. But that Lanbitou is a literal “lanbitou” - “crappy pen tip”.
