Lyrics:
Tongue-tied or short of breath
Don't even try
Try a little harder
Something's wrong
You're not naive, you must be strong
Ooh, baby try
Hey girl, move a little closer
You're too shy shy, hush hush eye to eye
Too, shy shy, hush hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy, hush hush eye to eye
Too, shy shy, hush hush
Modern medicine falls short of your complaint
Ooh, try a little harder
Moving in circles won't you dilate
Ooh, baby try
Hey girl, move a little closer
'Cause you're too shy shy, hush hush eye to eye
Too, shy shy, hush hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy hush hush eye to eye
Too, shy shy, hush hush
You're too shy shy, hush hush eye to eye
Too, shy shy, hush hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy, hush hush eye to eye
Too, shy shy, hush hush
Too, shy shy, hush hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy, hush hush eye to eye
Too, shy shy, hush hush

I'm a white dude from the suburbs in a country literally from the other side of the planet. I like this song too. I also like some hip hop songs. Should I tell African Americans that I like their music as well? Its a cool song, regardless of your race or where you are from. Why do Americans break stuff down like this. Just say "I enjoy this song" . Stop with your identity politics FFS. Why do Americans do this? Its like a fkn disease.

I used to laugh at this song as a kid. Now as a 40yo adult I consider it a work of genius. The mood captivates you immediately, like the beginning of "Self Control" (either version). The structure, harmonies, key changes, instrumentation are all innovative and perfectly placed. What this group packs into 3 and 1/2 minutes many, many others attempt to express in full albums or an entire career. The experimentation and freedom of the 80s remains unrivaled in pop music.

Can you believe that this is now 40 years ago old? Well I can't! I know it was number one here in Britain in early 1983, and it still sounds great today! Thank you.
@brucedanton3669

Indeed-and somehow you could say it is still number one today in a way-at least as a tune for sure!

@@danielkoralle5818 The song came out 1-10-1983 and the year is from this comment 3-9-2023 which equals over 40 years old. Nobody cares that you are born in 1993.

@The End calm down... I had a typo- wanted to write 1983 instead of 1993.

Tongue-tied or short of breath, don't even try Try a little harder Something's wrong, you're not naive, you must must be strong Ooh, baby, try Hey girl Move a little closer You're too shy shy, hush-hush, eye to eye Too shy shy, hush-hush, eye to eye Too shy shy, hush-hush, eye to eye Too shy shy, hush-hush Modern medicine falls short of your complaint Ooh, try a little harder You're moving in circles, won't you dilate? Such a smooth song, you don't really realize how well done everything is while listening, it just sounds great, and you want to dance. But the singing, the bass (as many people have commented is genius), it just melts together. A really great song.

This song is as 80s as you can get, the echo synthesizer, slap bass and electric guitar sound, fluoro mullet hair... fav part of the song at 2:20 with the instrumental the awesome bassline and the cry of the Roland synth and guitar, such an 80s new age sound, best decade ever.
