Episode 20:
Here is an unboxing and demonstration video for a new tool in the shop.
I used to have a 30" Jet 3-in-1 Sheet Metal Brake, Shear, Roll machine and got rid of it when I stopped using it and started running out of space. This smaller 12" unit will do 95% of what I need and it's easier to move around and store when not in use.
I am by no means a sheet metal guy or expert but I have dabbled in it. It took a bit for the mechanics of the machine to come back to me but I eventually got there and demonstrate most of the functions of the machine. It's a nice tool to have around if you have to do any kind of work with sheet metal forming.
I picked this unit up from Amazon and so far so good; I would recommend.

Just bought one and they are well worth the money. a few pointers, The spring holding down bar is also a finger guard, also the back stop has two sets of fixing holes , a lower and a upper, so you can have a back stop for the Brake and use the lower for the cutting. And most inportant thing is , there is two black Hex head screws left and right of the cutting blade you adjust for bending, these are adjusted to the correct size and type of tmaterial, so once setup correctly you can repeat the bending without guessing . Also there are blade adjustment screws located at the bottom front, Left and right, These are adjusted to get a better cut on thicker material. Remember it funtions as a Guilitine and not as a pair of scissor's so be careful or you could set it wrong and ruin the blade.

I have the 30" KAKA and, like you, I never use the entire width. I'm working with 20 gauge, 13" wide, 316 stainless steel material and, unfortunately, the 12" KAKA was not wide enough for my use. This is where these machines coming from China fail, IMHO. I'm a design/mechanical engineer; if I was going to design a machine for the most common widths of 12" and 24", I would never design it with the said common widths being the max machine capacity but rather add a comfortable 3 - 6" margin. For example, they would have been much better off making a 16" or 18" machine to work with 12" width. They designed their 30" machine width properly, because they allowed a comfortable 6" margin above the most common width size of 24". Having said that, the 3 in 1 design is really innovative and hats off to whomever the original machine designers were. Good video and intuition on how to use it. Thanks

Very good points. I agree for working 12" it should definitely be wider. And it's a pretty significant step to go from 12" to 30". It is a great "little" tool to have in the shop.

It is one of those tools that is really worth it when you need it and a heavy chunk of "in the way" when you don't! I am sure you will get more use out of it than most folks would though! I am not gonna lie it does look like a really handy thing and I am sure I would burn through all kinds of metal "testing" it out!

Agreed! When I got rid of my 30" I was a pain to work with sheetmetal. Using tin-snips to get less than ideal cuts and clamping it in a vice to work it with a ball-peen hammer. It will be nice to have this capability back in the shop. I still need to find a home for the machine though. Everything has a home in my shop. It helps keep the clutter down and stay organized. This will probably end up on a mobile cart but it still needs to be stable.

Real car or RC car? It's a definite nice to have if you have the room for it. Sheet metal work can be fun and frustrating. shrinking and stretching the material, a lot of craft and "black magic" involved. I restored a '69 bus a couple years back and did all the body work. I could only get things so good before I had to resort to skim coats of filler to smooth it out. I tried to use as little as possible. I have a lot of respect for those that can do good body work.

Soooo, it’s basically useless for cutting steel and stainless. 😐 Awesome.
