The Owl parrot has finely blotched yellow-green plumage, a distinct facial disc of sensory, vibrissa-like feathers, a large grey beak, short legs, large feet, wings and a tail of relatively short length. A combination of traits make it unique among its kind.

The Kakapo is my favorite animal of all. It's so weird and stupid, it should have gone extinct long ago. It's sad they don't show how he makes walking paths to attract females. If you see that stuff, you'll understand why they are facing extinction. It's a ridiculous mating strategy. These birds have no game. They can't flee from predators. They can't fight. They are ridiculous animals that shouldn't exist. If they were not facing extinction, i would keep a couple as pets in the garden. I would build them a sanctuary to keep them safe from almost everything. Because they are totally hopeless. I love it.

Living on islands without predators for millions of years causes animals to not only lose the adaptations that kept them safe from predators but also the knowledge that other animals are capable of harming them. @Acceleration Quanta you narcissistic dipshit, the sheer amount of technologies and scientific knowledge weird biological outliers afford us in our understanding of our own planet is worth more than you will EVER be worth. you mother should have swallowed you in order to make way for a better off-spring. one that understands lots of stuff we use on our own designs we had to learn from dissecting how stuff is related and where it came from. if there aren't anymore of them we can't learn. Get your facts straight before you try to sound all high and mighty, there is literally a group of people out there who are better at deciding how valuable the preservation of the kakapo vs something that they ACTUALLY DO agree is a waste of human resources (aka devil hole puff fish) ect. You aren't a cool edge lord for thinking you are more important or scientifically valuable, especially when the sentiment you are attempting to parrot has already been hashed out by smarter people than you that can actually do a tiny bit of research to actually determine the species we can/ can't loose.... just google what you are talking about, and you'll see the kakapo is not the correct one to take your little man syndrome out on....

We absolutely need to save all the endangered species. Only a diverse ecosystem is a healthy and stable ecosystem, so it highly benefits the human race aswell to take good care of all creatures. Especially if they‘re as cute as these little buggers. Doubles the paybackfor us and future generations to be able to watch them. 🥰
@MrCmon113
@MrCmon113 Год назад
>We absolutely need to save all the endangered species. So we need to obtain perfectl control over the entire biosphere and what we should do with that power is to ensure that everything gets stuck in an infinite loop? >Only a diverse ecosystem is a healthy and stable ecosystem There is no "healthy" ecosystems and no. Ecosystems aren't any more stable just because there's lots of different animals. And them being stable isn't good in the first place. >to take good care of all creatures You're not taking any care of anyone by freezing "ecosystems" in time. Do you think you benefit rape victims by maintaining rape?
@blacky_Ninja
@blacky_Ninja Год назад
@@MrCmon113 1) We only need to take control of certain parts because we destroyed them with our actions in the first place. Of course evolution can and will always take place, but aside from that never possibly happening anyways, what exactly would be bad about ‚an infinite loop‘? 2) Since we‘re viewing this from the point of a species that wants to survive a healthy ecosystem is one that can sustain life, and a stable ecosystem can do so over a long period of time without a guardian who needs to keep it in check. Lots of different animals meant lots of different niches are covered and ressources are properly distributed, recycled and used to their full potential. If there were no bacteria that could digest wood, trees would take all the nutrients they stored unavailable for any further use. If there weren‘t bigger creatures that shredded that wood into smaller pieces it would take centuries for one single tree to be broken down completely. Almost all creatures in this world do their part in keeping the system running. We as humans, as any other lifeform aswell, are dependent on the system running smoothly and not collapsing to the point where life can‘t be sustained anymore 3) Tf is wrong with you that you even think that this is anywhere near being comparable?? Preserving natural life for it to eventually be bale to go it’s way without interference isn‘t anything near to a human forcing another human to procreate against their will. Natural life is just species trying to survive and each doing so in their own ways, so there‘s nothing wrong with helping them achieve that goal if they got disadvantaged by human interference in the first place. And before you come with that „RapE mAkeS bAbyS, wHich hElp tHe sPeCieS sUrVivE“ bs, no tf it doesn‘t help our survival. We‘re a social species with high cognitive functions and as such are dependent on people working together, so hurting others will most likely just hurt your chance of survival aswell since they won‘t want to have anything to do with you anymore if they‘re not directly dependent on you, thus why it‘s quite commonly understood to be a bad thing for the community and thus a bad thing to hurt others in general. At least if you care about other people. Of course with our current numbers there‘ll be plenty of people you won‘t care about directly, but you’ll still be bound to apply the same rules you apply to people you care about, otherwise you‘d risk them returning the violence you hurl their way, which in general history never played out well and tremendously hurt our species survival.

It's just to determine which individual is related to who so they can prevent inbreeding, not to go full InGen on them. So you can relax.

Kakapo do exist in nature preserves on the south island I've been to one. Not only on outlier islands. Their population is recovering.
