When the law first kicked in I went to purchase some ammunition from Big5. I was denied at the I was an active Leo. The manager of the store came over explained to me that there a lot of people being denied. He asked to see my drivers license, asked me when I purchased firearms how was my name recorded on the DROS. I told just like it is on my drivers license. He took my license said, give me a minute went to the back with my license came back a minute later. He told me that the DMV made put the Jr. In the wrong box. He manually in putted my name and information. I was cleared to purchase ammunition. I thanked the Manager he took the time to fix the problem. I can only imagine how many people have been denied because of a typeO Now a days there are very few places that care about customers service. If it hadn’t been for the manager I probably would have never know about the typeO on the mag strip of my drivers license.
This happened to me. I’m in CA and big 5 wouldn’t sell me bird shot for dove season because my pistol safety card was written incorrectly by having Jr in the wrong area and didn’t match my license.. all because Jr was written before my last name because the person at Turners was too dense to write it correctly. This meant that people who didn’t have a current FSC (or CCW) could not buy a handgun as they couldn’t take the required test. Be careful with mental health, my son was 5150 because he had anxiety about graduating high school and admin waited until he turned 18 so I couldn't interfere. He was released within a few hours. Psychiatrist said their was no reason for him to be there. This is another way these people are going take your 2A rights away.

I'm not sure if that applies if you move out of state, actually, because I read that, starting in 2016 or something, they started telling the FBI who they 5150'd. 5150 is 72 hours or less, on an observational hold. 5250 is a longer hold and counts as involuntary commitment.

I am quite literally a victim of the stipulations Kamala Harris put in place through the DOJ about the non statutory mental illness and it happened before I even had the right to vote. I wasn't given the right to a fair trial although I was requested to appear in court via writ of habeus corpus but because I was under the supervision of a psychiatric institution for a 5150, I was denied; based on the technicality during the duration of that stay you are under the guardianship of that institution. My parents weren't even informed until after n not only that, if you deny to sign the firearm restrictions waiver upon release, your stay is increased indefinitely. It's so sickening. Been fighting this legal battle on my own for the last 6 years because no law firm or firearms advocacy group will take my case
