Oh man! I'm an Australian so I only read today that Lovatt was on Survivor.....and the news article was written like he was like the new Survivor Jesus....... so now you're saying he's out???
He would be a huge threat for sure!! It would have been a lot of fun if they'd let him stay on though, dangerous but amazing for us fans. Good job going on Lovett, off the couch and onto Survivor that's a game changer!
Now I see why there was so much camera focus on Lovett in this Survivor episode. He would have added so much value to the season for the viewers with his humor and intelligent commentary. I think the producers knew that so they maximized his screen time in the only episode they could. I see why he was perceived as a threat but I was really looking forward to multiple episodes with Lovett.

Why does he keep getting elected, though? Do the people of South Carolina not see what a two-faced POS he is? I can't be the only person who thinks that if he'd turn his back on his oldest friend, John McCain and completely change his personality and political views for power, that he'd also sell SC down the river, if given the right opportunity.
As a 100% political junkie who never watches reality TV, I never would have thought that my favorite segment of the show would have been you guys discussing Lovett's turn on Survivor. Not only was it hilarious to watch, but it was also a great view into your friendship, which was heart warming. Laughing until you were all nearly crying, though, was a fun start to a Friday morning.
I too am a political junkie (finally caved and paid for a Nate Silver subscription…) But half the reason I watch Pod - is just parasocial endorphins from their model friendship group. True story.

As someone living below the poverty line, I'd prefer she say regular Americans instead of the middle class. It would hit on both including more people, and in drawing a clear distinction between the wealthy and the rest of us.
I've heard her talking about "expanding" the middle class, which would mean giving people like you (us, for the record) more avenues to move into that bracket, so I don't mind her keeping the focus there.
Politicians always just talk about middle class, even Sanders. It's really frustrating that no one seems to care about those of us who are barely surviving.

These kinds of conversations contribute to that. Kamala Harris provides the answers everyone is looking for but pundits complain that she has to do more. Meanwhile, trump says people love me, they're eating dogs, and they say "oh that's just trump."
I haven't seen the episode yet but I enjoyed every minute of that Survivor discussion. You guys were clearly having the time of your lives and I'm here for it.
I am a labor delivery nurse and I recently cared for a woman who needed a life saving D&C because she was hemorrhaging..aka bleeding out. I thankfully live in a non-abortion state but we need to talk OUT LOUD about this issue. Healthcare workers should not be criminalized for trying to save their patient's lives, especially from a man who will not take accountability for his own crimes. I am not a criminal. I took an oath when I became a healthcare worker and that oath included I would not put my patients and or community at harm. The overturning of Roe VS Wade, is asking me to ignore the oath I took. The federal government is asking healthcare workers in this country to put aside life saving interventions for their "fucked up" decision. Their are more than one patient in every pregnancy...the MOM and the baby. Can we please advocate for the health of mothers too.

I watched Survivor just because Jon was on it. I don't watch reality tv at all. Just wanted to say that the deep love and respect that these four men have for each other is so obvious. It's wonderful to see.
It's mostly grocery prices that are making folks cranky. She needs to do a whole presentation on the power of price-gouging suits. Here in WA our AG (and current gubernatorial candidate) Bob Ferguson successfully sued chicken and tuna producers for price-fixing and sent households a check for a hundred bucks or so. Explain how big producers collude to set prices illegally, how profits still remain unreasonably high even after the covid-era supply-chain issues eased, and how the threat of empowering the federal government to sue in the same manner as state AGs have for years (as in Elizabeth Warren's bill currently in the Senate) will have an immediate chilling effect on price-fixing and drive prices down as producers seek to avoid becoming a target. Antitrust action is a fundamentally free-market conservative economic practice to preserve competition and should be supported by everyone.
This is incorrect. As a recently former purchasing agent (buyer) for a large grocery store chain, grocery stores work off some of the lowest margins in any industry. Margins are razor-thin. In many cases making pennies on products. So no, grocery stores are not gouging you. Supposed grocery store price gouging has been a popular political talking point over the years. And to your statement that Kamala needs to do a whole presentation on this - the reason she and politicians before her haven't is because they know very well that grocery stores cannot lower prices in any significant way or they'd go under.

I have not watched Survivor in YEARS but was so excited to watch Lovett play I downloaded an app and watched this morning so excited!! Being voted off first is disappointing but SO relatable! I wouldn't even make it on the show so good for him! Loved being able to cheer him on and while a little sad we couldn't see more of his game play which I think would have been incredible.. also glad we don't have to wait months to find out the outcome esp during election season!
Actual facts: The US has the best economy in the world. Among many other real things, we set stock market records every day. We drill so much oil, we kept gas prices flat and kept Europe afloat with record production. People's perception: the economy is awful, and the guy who wrecked it should be in charge. There's economic inequality, so let's put they into power whose only plan is to make it worse

This was so much fun! This was my first episode of Survivor since Season 1! My parents (in their 90s) are regular Survivor fans and do not listen to podcasts but were rooting for you. We were all impressed by the wisdom you demonstrated on just being a kind and good human being. Your smart humor was fun to watch and probably a refreshing change. We were all sad you got voted off and Dad was particularly baffled why they kept a ticking time bomb (dad about Andy: Man...he needs therapy!).
In a game about strategy and stamina, they want some sitting ducks around for easy votes. I’m not sure Jon was seen as a necessary physical asset for the tribe, so they kept the younger person, knowing they could string Andy along as a loyal, easy vote and sacrifice him when the time comes to make deals. Or I’m overthinking it.
Nobody actually "needs to know more about her". That's a smokescreen for "I'm voting for Trump like my friends, but I don't want to have to explain myself or feel like I'm being irrational"

I think it's more like "I know he's a lunatic, but my identity is so wrapped up in being a Republican that I'm uncomfortable with voting for Kamala, and I hope she gives me a good excuse to do it". The polls show a decent chunk of people that are considering Harris but don't say they're going to vote for her. I suspect most of them will end up voting for her. But it's a long process of personal reflection.
@brandonm949 that's a big thing here in texas. I talk to so many women here that are left leaning politically. And they dont like trump. I will tell them, "you're a democrat! You're pro-choice and for gun laws! Vote democrat!" And it never fails, their response is, "but democrats are evil." Its exhausting how brainwashed people here are by the republican party. We used to be blue. I also used to be a republican. Then I stepped back and watched what was really going on. I also don't have a husband who is a diehard Trumper telling me who to vote for. Women here are very submissive. It's sad.
Agreed. Though, I think its more like "I know Trump is a lunatic. I know he'll bring a dystopia here. I know there will be chaos and the end of democracy. But I'm voting for him anyway, because I'm betting to be among the priviledged in the new reality." I am from eastern Europe, where we have a lot of experience with such challenges. And this is always the most prevalent mindset of supporters of those people.

It would be very effective if the Harris campaign would sponsor a prime time presentation by some very respected Repbulican where that person showed a compilation of the insane remarks made by Trump at his rallies and basically asked the American people, "Is this really the guy you want running the country?" SOMETHING needs to break through and get these guys to really understand and acknowledge that he is not normal.

If you don't actually understand how government works, or you think it's just a cabal of lecherous PDFs already, the prospect of Trump being in charge is not that big of a concern. Better arguments: freedom vs women bleeding out in hospital parking lots, or $50k for small business $25 for homebuyers vs 20% Trump sales tax on everything (his proposed "tariffs") that would def happen because the president alone has that power. Oh and target women's turnout. So while I understand op's instinct and totally relate, I'm glad they did the Oprah reunion special instead. Btw it was really powerful.
We need to just show a bunch of news clips from 2020 and early 2021. People like a certain commenter above me seem to have forgotten that 2020 happened. Trump left office with a 34% approval rating. Make those other 66% remember why they felt that way.

Man! These people literally voted off the only person that was bringing this show a bunch of new viewers and extra screen time. I just deleted my DVR series recording. I had been kind of excited to get invested again after sooo many years of not watching, but without Lovett I just don't care to continue watching. I'm so sorry for your loss. On the other hand I bet it was awesome to get back to a hotel bed, air conditioning, and good food. ❤
Jon and Dan hit the nail on the head with her responses on the economy. Even her response last night on the Oprah event I was like what does this mean for all Americans? I already have a home, I already have older children, I work a regular job and not planning to open a small business. Now what? I know she has a plan, but that is because I am a heavy politics consumer. She needs a response to cover all QUICKLY and not the word salad.

I love this Podcast. All of you are extremely talented and your friendship shines through. I have watched every episode of Survivor. I have never been as excited for a new season as I was when I saw Jon on the previews at the end of last season. You were placed on the worst tribe for you overall success. I was looking forward to seeing you make the final pitch to the jury for their vote to cast you as the Season 47 winner. I hope Jeff advocates for you to be on Season 50!!!

Extract more fossil fuels if we have to pay for it with tax dollars is Trump's plan to bring down inflation! Everyone who wants to drill or frack is already doing so. I'm not up to date on coal & mountaintop removal activity. Only way Trump can make oil companies happier is to increase profit by removing environmental protection regulations, which he has promised to do. Dunno if he got his billion oil dollars, but he'd make the same promises either way. Project 2025 dictates them, and robber barons are the tribe of his heart.
The 'what is it going to do for me' attitude really annoys me. How about, 'I'm happy that it will help someone, therefore helping the economy overall'?
it's not that gen z doesn't listen to pod save, the problem is that the venn diagram of gen z who listen to pod save and gen z who go on reality tv shows are two separate circles.
If Kamala could follow your advice and make all her policy statements succinct--almost bullet points--and say them over and over again, so that people who hear them can easily understand, and repeat them to others, she would make more headway on the economic front.
The price gouging bit is the *best* part of the Harris agenda. Give Lina Khan a billion dollars and a thousand attorneys, and she’ll singlehandedly fix the economy.

Polls are only a very tiny representation, usually around 1,000 people, chosen ‘randomly’ with a margin of error of +/- 3%. I believe in the last decade or so, people have realized that they don’t have to answer them, don’t pick up the call etc. I don’t answer any number I don’t recognize anymore. This means that the people who are willing to answer the polls are a smaller, and probably, less generic sampling then it should be. So we wouldn’t get accurate results regardless. Relying on them to predict an outcome isn’t the best odds.
