This adaptation actually put some more effort on recreating scenes and story, it's waaaaay better than Saban's Masked Rider. It's a good adaptation on its own
@@hitsumaru100 yeah it's kinda crazy when you think about it and kinda cool but also surprising that they actually like the American adaptation more then ryukki it's interesting 🤔 but it definitely is a change over theirs more action less battle Royale 🤣 glad to hear they liked it though
Bad writing aside, this show was actually a perfect adaption of Ryuki. Not too childish like Power Rangers, but not too edgy and dark either. The perfect blend. The action sequences were great plus the characters were actually morally believable as opposed to just the standard binary "Lawful Good" and "Chaotic Evil"
Transformation is amazing, characters looked great and a really great adaptation, I don't care if they say that this is bad writing. This is actually a pretty great standalone show but comparing it to Kamen Rider Ryuki, Dragon Knight looks so bad but it doesn't mean that it is truly bad.
@@andrewbormann1724 Masked Rider, being adapted from Black RX had more, and always have a negative feedback for Western tokusatsu fans, especially for those who watched the source material.
eons better than masked rider but also you cant blame it being the first and i applaud saban for trying to get tokusatsu shows to america not just the best rendition but dragon knight was well done
I want to see Saber and Zero One in the US. Or better yet and don’t kill me for this, the US could make their own versions of Kamen Rider. That way we get a Kamen Rider series without people complaining about how it was either botched or not a good take on the original series!
I remember watching this when I was very little. My memories are very foggy, and since I’m an 03 kid, I was probably about 5 years old around the time it came out. I remember watching so many episodes yet I couldn’t fully describe a single one. I just remember really liking this show and it took me so long to find it again. I looked everywhere and couldn’t find what it was called. Now rewatching these transformations it does give me a nostalgic feeling!
I’m the exact same way. I can remember watching this in my parents room but i can recall nothing about this show except the fact that it was dope as fuck.
what I love about this is the fact that even if the fan base maybe split if this was a good adaptation or not. It introduced western viewerrs to the kamen rider world. The original ryuki was my first kamen rider series and when I watched it during 2004 due to reruns here in the Philippines it was the coolest shit on the tv back then. I will always have fond memories about the original series, I'm just as happy to see that other people are now curious about the world of Kamen Rider in general :)
Technically, the first Kamen Rider show to come to America was Saban's Masked Rider (an adaptation of Kamen Rider Black RX), and before that, there was the internationally released "The Masked Rider: Kamen Rider ZO" for Sega CD.
Some of these actors are well-known small screen actors; in fact, two of them-Wing Knight (Matt Mullins) and the Advent Master (Mark Dacascos)-would go on to be in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
@@MuiGohan Not to mention Dacascos played Kung Lao in Legacy Season 2; sadly, Mullins didn't return as Johnny Cage from Legacy Season 1 and the Rebirth fan film.
I'm actually surprised everyone loved this adaptation of ryuki which makes me more happy that I always love this series!! Thanks to this series I get to watched the entire kamen riders series!
Because of the low ratings. Hasbro is just starting with Power Rangers. We never know if the tokusatsu concept be popular again for the kids in America. However, TOEI is starting to give up series to test the waters again.
Also it doesn't help that many Asian businesses like Japan hate the aspect of a niche audiences, if they have cash cow that does well domestic they rather play it safe they might acknowledge there an international audience but they rather ignore them and not risk it. Most Asia has this Galpagos Syndrome in a nutshell they don't want to risk any loses internationally if this does well domestically and they rather stay Isolated, Japan is one of them and they hardcore when it comes this syndrome to the point it basically part of their culture.
I watched Kamen Rider Ryuki as a small kid when I was always visiting my grandparents in Vietnam. Japanese shows were hugely popular for kids back in Pacific Asia, but it never got popular in the west like Super Sentai/Power Rangers. This series reintroduced me back to the Kamen Rider franchise and I still love the nostalgia stemming from it. Superheroes, Anti-Heroes or Villains fighting not only for good/bad, but foremost for themselved had always intrigued me.
How the series SHOULD have ended: Following that final morph, DK, WK and Siren are fighting a monster at night, having fought throughout the day to no avail. The monster which is grey coloured and looks like a minotaur just won’t go down. As the three riders lie on the floor struggling to get up, the monster sees someone approaching from under a bridge. A person wearing armor with red glowing lines in the shape of a human, and a face of a circle in two halves. The monster charges this person, who throws a single punch and sends it flying back. DK looks in shock and awe at the Power of this mystery assistant. The mystery man then pushes a button on their belt, and an electronic voice calls out “EXCEED CHARGE”. A glowing pulse follows the red lined from the belt down their right leg to a device which chimes when powered up. The man then throws a roundhouse kick which sends a red energy pulse at the monster, creating a cone vortex which holds him suspended in place. He then jumps into the cone and goes straight through the monster, reducing it to ash. DK, WK and Siren slowly get up and ask who he is, to which he slowly turns and says “You think you’re the only Kamen Riders in this world?” before walking away.
@@darrisreid502 facts I seen it once and it was after a tmnt episode the week after they changed its time slot and sonic x was after tmnt instead of KRDK
Kamen Rider Ryuki: A Kamen Rider meets Hunger Games meets Battle Royal for one single wish with a phrase: "If you don't fight, you won't survive." Kamen Rider Dragon Knight: A Kamen Rider adaptation about Riders fighting between their identity, moral values & loyalty as well as another world twist aka Ventara
Funny that they say "Kamen Rider" to transform here when Decade happened to be running at the same time. Remind me, what did the Decadriver say when Tsukasa threw in a card?
gonna be honest though.... pose aside this really beats out Ryuki for me. Though to be fair this probably has a few more years on it to improve the CG. Plus American CG vs not as great Japanese CG
@@NekoValtz lol are you kidding? "American CG vs not as great Japanese CG?" what about hollywood action movie lol, japan tokusatsu doesnt have better cgi like hollywood, look at kamen rider and super sentai, but the story is more more more better than saban's tokusatsu, thats why many people love it, and thats why saban make a porn parody form it.
This show impressed me a lot when I was a kid compared to Power Rangers with some of its direction. Like the main character Ryuki dying halfway through the season and returning later as Ryuga.
Watching this as a kid was a gem right along side power rangers it was that turnt up and I loved it got me watching Kamen rider Ryuki just cause of it really wish more were adapted
Wish they did the riders' unique poses each time before they transformed. Besides that, this was a decent adaptation. Shame they don't do more of these.
I just realized Matt Mullins who plays Len here (Wing Knight) was Leo Howard's (Jack from kickin' It!) actual martial arts trainer - he also played a character in Kickin' It too.
Power ranger bring break story timeline each eps. You get a problem, fix it, play with monster, summon in big creature, call megazord, and die, while kamen rider bring good connection each eps. just like a series super hero eps.
The fact that this has a better henshin sq than the original 🤣 for me atleast the buckle collapsing when inserted with the advent deck is pretty neat addition
Feels so good to reconnect with my past with all these classic's i can't get enough of it man i used to watch this show now seeing it on here just brought some awesome memories i love kamen rider dragon knight still do even as an adult it's still an awesome series to watch glad to know i'm not the only one still watches this series
If I could, I’d change the Onyx (dark) rider to a different animal motif. A wolf, in my opinion. What would you change it too if you felt the same way?
I LOVED this show (and its Japan descendent) but when this came out I remember the shows episodes took FOREVER to drop weekly and I feel like that’s kind of why nobody hyped it up as much as it should have been
I'm surprised how much this adaptation introduced a lot of American people to Kamen Rider. I'm French and I was introduced to Super Hero Time back in 2011 with the Gokaiger/OOO lineup.
I remember back then this series was aired just a week after Ryuki's last episode, and it initially make me think maybe Ryuki aren't over yet until i see western actors
I think for the English Adaptation they should’ve said “Let’s Ride” instead of “Kamen Rider” when they morph (even though Henshin is very very easy to pronounce, even for English-speakers like me)
Saying Henshin would be pretty weird, unless you either had Japanese actors/set the show in Japan, or appropriate it into a magic word. At most, you could get away with keeping it in a dub. "Transform" should be the easy replacement, but I think the existence of Transformers has made this very difficult to be taken seriously. "Metamorph" would be a good alternative (officially used for the English Kuuga theme) if Power Rangers didn't have the word morph so closely associated.
I agree that would be nice let's hope if that ever happens in the future hopefully they say something other then Kamen Rider for the transformation that got old real fast🤣
Man, I just wish instead of saying "Kamen rider" every time they transform they would just say "Transform" or something... it'd be improved so much just with that simple change.
I heard somewhere that one of the reasons this series wasn't very popular was because of the channel it aired on, I mean I didn't even know that CW had a kids channel until I found out about dragon knight so I guess that says something. Edit: yeah the CW kids channel was 4kids, no wonder it failed
Give me this show any day over Ryuki, and an example that adaptations CAN and DO work in the right hands. - Its creators aren't trying to be edgy for edginess' sake, whilst cashing in on something that ultimately ended up as a fad (Battle Royale), and done much better later on (Kamen Rider Gaim) - In fact, rather than try to deconstruct Shotaro Ishinomori's already cynical-yet-optimistic themes (be a hero, be human, even when you're physically not), they try to honor it, being actual fans, as opposed to Yasuko Kobayashi admitting she knew squat about KR. - Kit actually SHOWS he's a kind, selfless, understanding, and friendly hero type...unlike Shinji, who is a serious "told, not shown" guy, who's often stupid, rash, irrational, antagonistic, reliant on base impressions, and often unfairly shilled. - We have Len and Kit actually working together, and believable as a hero duo.
Shinji and Kit are both friendly, selfless, and a kind hero. Both are willing to use their power to save civilians from Mirror Monsters. But Shinji is holding back when fighting another Rider/s due to the fact that he does not want to kill someone, unlike Kit. Shinji is more on dense than being stupid and he's not that serious compare to other main Riders. Maybe the serious Shinji you're referring to is either Dark Shinji or A.R. Shinji. The reason why Len accepts Kit at the first part is bec. the latter prove to the former that he is different from Adam. The reason why it takes a long time for Ren to warm up to Shinji is bec. of the Battle Royale. After all, there should be only one Rider in the Ryuki series.
All I have to say the English one is best , because in Japanese when u going to transform you have to point your card to the mirror and make your poses . But in this one , you can point every direction you want even with the mirror and say " Kamen Rider "
Kamen Rider and Power Rangers were my go - to shows as a kid it's been a long while since I watched this show ... I have favored the ones who had the scenes with the girl, cobra/snake, and the other the tiger
