VIH Helicopters Kamov Ka-32 C-FMKV is seen starting-up and taking off to fuel up, then relocating to park. At the same time, another Kamov Ka-32 of VIH Helicopters, C-FMKV, is seen on the approach and landing. What an awesome sight to see these two impressive coaxial rotor helicopters together at CNZL!

The counter rotation of the blades seems like such a good system. No wasted power going to a tail rotor. I just can’t understand why it’s not more common especially for heavy lift helicopters.
@CenturionsReview
@CenturionsReview 6 лет назад
The power "drain" is very low. Some, such as the angled one on the Blackhawk actually provide additional lift for the aircraft. The reason coaxial rotors are less common than helicopters with tail rotors is because the extra expense, maintenance costs and complexity isn't worth it. However, the NOTAR design that is used on some versions of the MD500 has proven to be less complex and expensive to maintain than traditional tail rotors. The future of helicopters without tail rotors is with NOTAR, not coaxial rotors.

Co-axial, the easiest to learn when starting to fly remote controlled helicopters. It looks ugly, but a step closer to knowing how to hover, move on 6 axis and graduate to the collective pitch single main rotor blade helicopter that requires more pilot skills. The Kamov, Russian made and design finds its place in Canada's fire fighting arsenal.

Russian technology! This thing will still fly in 50 years. It's funny. If REALLY robust technology is needed in the West (e.g. fire-fighting helicopters), Russian technology is used. The Kamow helicopters are considered the safest machines in the world. A clever design. The two counter-rotating rotors neutralize the torque around the vertical axis, without a fault-prone tail rotor would be necessary. The Russian combat helicopter Kamow KA-52 is the most elegant helicopter for me.

If you had a problem with one of the rotors , could you fly and land this aircraft using the other rotor? just wondering
@voltalskyracer6430
@voltalskyracer6430 6 лет назад
rrhone no because the chopper would've started to turn with the rotor then. those rotors turn contrarily to negate each others torque to spin the aircraft with them. this design doesn't need a tail rotor which drains a lot of power because it needs to turn faster than main rotor because it is small, and making the craft more stabile than it's sisters.
@CenturionsReview
@CenturionsReview 6 лет назад
Tail rotors "drain" very little power. They are connected directly to the same transmission as the main rotor. Some (such as the angled one the Blackhawk) actually add lift to the aircraft. The four negatives of tail rotors are they can be damaged in a tail low landing, people have walked into them, the 2-bladed variety are loud and they cause drag and as such slightly reduce the speed of the aircraft. The NOTAR system used on some versions of the MD500 has proven to be a simpler, more economical and less maintenance intensive approach to not having a tail rotor than the mechanically complex coaxial rotors on Russian helicopters.

@CenturionsReview
@CenturionsReview 6 лет назад
The disadvantages are added complexity, cost, maintenance costs, etc. The biggest problem with helicopters is they are MUCH more expensive to operate and maintain than fixed wing equivalents. Coaxial rotars make this problem much worse. Look up the costs to operate/maintain a tiny MD500 and I think you guys will be shocked and a MD500 is one of the easiest to maintain helicopters out there. Something with this complexity would be out of reach for most operators.

With the coax Rotors You dont Need the small rotor in the back to Counter the mainrotor torque

tylor blakeney also, the contra rotating rotors cancel out each other's torque, eliminating the need for tail rotor.

I read, that because it was designed as a naval helicopter, doing away with the tail rotor makes the helicopter shorter and easier to park on ships. It also does away with the need for a folding tail boom, making for less engineering complexity.

Is FMKV an ex-HeliSwiss aircraft? Or is HeliSwiss an ex-Canadian aircraft? lol. They got the same liveries.

This one is an ex-HeliSwiss machine. It was a real treat to see it here, and I like the small addition of the maple leaves they added to the livery.

@TheHDAviation
@TheHDAviation 6 лет назад
It's a really easy camera to use, I honestly just leave it in auto mode all the time and all you have to control is the zoom. I don't use a tripod either, all shot freehand.
