During my visit to Australia, we took a train from Melbourne to Sydney, and we passed through an area that was being affected by the massive wildfires around then. As we rode through the orange, smoky haze, I saw some Kangaroos sprinting away - they were matching the train in speed. Those guys can REALLY bounce when in a hurry...! Poor things were probably in a panic, but it was amazing to watch them just careen forward like that.

3:44 "The best Kangaroo jumps can take them 2 metres forward" This is at a stroll. The comfortable hopping speed for a kangaroo is about 21-26 km/h (13-16 mph), but speeds of up to 71 km/h (44 mph) can be attained over short distances, while it can sustain a speed of 40 km/h (25 mph) for nearly 2 km (1.2 mi). The faster a kangaroo hops, the less energy it consumes (up to its cruising speed). In a single jump a fleeing Kangaroo is able to cover a distance of 9 meters (almost 30 feet).

There are a LOT of areas in Australia that get deep snow and kangaroos do not manage it well. However other common animals like wombats thrive in it.

The first time we went to Australia, we stopped in Tasmania to see a wildlife park. I got to see almost all the endemic species (some were not on exhibit). I got to feed the red kangaroos and the wallabies (the wallaroos were more interested in hopping around). The second time, we were in Cairns and we fed a gray kangaroo and some more wallabies. It was really cool!

I heard some kangaroo species have certain kind of bacteria in their mouth, which can kill them if they are hold in sub-optimal habitats? I had a short school-internship at a zoo decades ago where I heard about it 🤔

I wanted to ask since your drawings are incredible, but which do find easier to draw animals with or without fur? I just noticed, but the ones with fur just seem to be more well-detailed, just saying

I used to ride one to school, there are special saddles so you can sit on their backs. ... ... Actually that is not true, they go into nervous shock if they are put on a leash or in small pens, which is why they can not be domesticated.
