Kansas City is the largest city in the U.S. state of Missouri. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city had an estimated population of 491,918 in 2018, making it the 38th most-populous city in the United States. It is the central city of the Kansas City metropolitan area, which straddles the Kansas-Missouri state line. Kansas City was founded in the 1830s as a Missouri River port at its confluence with the Kansas River coming in from the west. On June 1, 1850, the town of Kansas was incorporated; shortly after came the establishment of the Kansas Territory. Confusion between the two ensued and the name Kansas City was assigned to distinguish them soon after.
Sitting on Missouri's western boundary with Kansas, with Downtown near the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri Rivers, the modern city encompasses some 319.03 square miles (826.3 km2), making it the 23rd largest city by total area in the United States. Most of the city lies within Jackson County, but portions spill into Clay, Cass, and Platte counties. Along with Independence, one of its major suburbs, it serves as one of the two county seats of Jackson County. Other major suburbs include the Missouri cities of Blue Springs and Lee's Summit and the Kansas cities of Overland Park, Olathe, and Kansas City.
The city is composed of several neighborhoods, including the River Market District in the north, the 18th and Vine District in the east, and the Country Club Plaza in the south. Kansas City is known for its long tradition of jazz music and culture, especially theater - the city was the center of the Vaudevillian Orpheum circuit in the 1920s. It is also noted for its cuisine, including its distinctive Kansas City-style barbecue, and its craft breweries.

Lol kansas city needs to do better as far as walkable attractions, downtown amenities and building with some type of goal for the buildings to be incorporated into the environment. Many of the buildings are just there...nothing attached to them, no shops or restaurants...smh it's sad actually. A city with so much potential, constantly gets put in a bad position by the city planners.

Hey, KC has an Electric Tram? Since when? Most American cities got rid of their Tram tracks years ago to make people buy cars. But you still have one! That’s great! It’s very efficient power wise and clean. Now I have to visit your city just to ride the Tram. And I hear you have great Barbecue! I love Barbecue! So thats two reasons I need to visit. I noticed one thing. In Western towns every thing is so spread out! Your Downtown looks endless! Also, I don’t see any homeless anywhere. Amazing! How is that possible? Thanks for uploading and filming this so I can get familiar a little bit.

Macy’s, Robinson’s, Katz’s, W T Grant’s, Cake Box Bakery, Kresge’s (where I ate my first SUBmarine sandwich as well as my first slice of pizza), The Jones Store.....so many wonderful memories of walking around, having fun as a kid then as a teen. 🌹

I've worked in downtown KC since 2003 and it has changed a LOT! Back then it wasn't safe to stick around after 6 pm, now I can't wait to retire there. Good video overall, Im not gonna be critical and I get why he followed the streetcar in the opening. But a really spectacular view is coming up highway 35 from the south or crossing the Broadway Bridge from the north. As viewers can probably tell, KC is hilly and the downtown is was built atop a bluff (to avoid the periodic flooding of the Missouri River) so it looks even taller than it really is from a distance. Other "critique" is why not include the Kaufmann Center, ranked one of the top 10 most beautiful concert halls in the world. Could have included City Market, which is an entire district of 10 square blocks or more, with lots of lofts, restaurants, etc - the streetcar starts and ends there. But hey, good video overall, including Broadway, Main St, Grand Ave, the major roads.(could have skipped the tour of Hallmark Centers parking garages)

Johnson county Kansas is the most densely populated and wealthiest county with over 613,000 people. Johnson county’s median household income is 96,059$ and kcmos is a saddening 60,042$. My town with the 3 or 4 towns around it make up 150 thousand people, and that is 1 small corner of the county. There are 3 plan neighborhoods in my area that are in the works for 15 thousand homes.....all have California style design. Not the traditional Texas ranch homes that rest on 1 or 2 arces of land. Those "ranch homes" are no longer available in these new areas.. And BTW I lived/stationed in california for 4 years. So I know the style they are pushing here.

I lived in KC most of the 80s and vividly remember being downtown waiting to pick up my girlfriend at City Center after her temp job and hearing dozens and dozens of sirens. The AT&T Town Pavillion was under construction and one of the baskets carrying workers crashed to the decking 100 feet below of a finished floor because one of the big cranes collapsed. Fond memories of downtown was the Kansas City Royals World Series parade in 1985.

Seems like a lot of people ask why KC is in Missouri so... As the USA grew from east to west, Kansas City, Missouri began to develop before Kansas was a state. At the very beginning it was actually named the Town of Kansas. Missouri is much older than Kansas. The city is named after the Kansa Indian Tribe as is the Kansas River. KC sits at the confluence of the MO and KS rivers and the town developed around the steamboat landings and was a major connection to the trails to the west. Later after KS became a state growth started happening on the KS side, but KCMO was already a "big city". Several small communities on the KS side merged and decided to call themselves Kansas City as well to hopefully trick New York City businessmen into thinking they were the Kansas City they had heard about to try and benefit from KCMO's already known reputation. While KCK grew into a larger industrial type city, it is basically an older blue collar suburb of KCMO today and is dwarfed by other suburbs in Kansas to the south in Johnson County. Today KCMO is the historic and cultural core of the metro area with the downtown etc. Nearly everything that KC is known for is on the Missouri side. KCMO is the primary city but KC has many suburbs in Kansas and Missouri. The KS side has about 900,000 of the metro area's 2.3 million people. Most Americans don't even know that the main part of KC is in Kansas, but that's Americans for you, they are pretty geographically challenged. I hope that helps!

I use to shop at a thrift store that was downtown. Not there anymore been at least 40 some years. But I remember the old wooden toys being in a bin. Signed baseballs. There was no glass showcases at the time. Wish I would've known now.

KC MO drivers are way better than DLH MN drivers. We would have just piled into the intersection, blocking cross-traffic drivers when the light changed, saying "What could I do? The light was green!" And obliviously ignoring all the other people trying to actually get somewhere in a traffic system that made the pretense of making sense

How the hell is that a PROBLEM because it’s early in the morning and on a Sunday? Every city doesn’t have to be bustling with tens of thousands of people like NYC to be deemed or thought of as a real or successful city...they’re obviously Cities of different sizes which OBVIOUSLY translates to population and density.

With Kansas City receiving such good PR in the blues art form (remember Fats Domino?), it's puzzling, then, why some of its locals are unhappy with MLK's name on a street there and want it changed.
@jayyoung4534
@jayyoung4534 4 года назад
@Harry My understanding when you say without input from residents. But I suspect an all white community wouldn't have approved a street(s) they live on to be named after MLK. So MLK must be a black neighborhood. And it is the case that the name Kansas City is historically linked to the development of jazz and many jazz notables come from that city. Can't they give a lesser known city there "The Paseo Blvd." I cannot conceive of any black residents of Kansas City "objecting" to the name MLK. BTW, does "The Paseo Boulevard" have any relevance to the historical struggle for a place in the sun for Americans of a darker skin tone?
@KCDashcammer
@KCDashcammer 4 года назад
@@jayyoung4534 Honestly, I'm indifferent about it. Thing is the Paseo is a cool name with a cool origin since the street was supposed to modeled after the Paseo in Mexico City. Honestly, they should name some other street after MLK if they are going to do it. Some numbered street would do.
@miguelfernandes5628
@miguelfernandes5628 4 года назад
When elections happened a few weeks ago about changing of the name, there wasn't much support by the people who actually lived on the Paseo to change it to MLK, and there wasn't much attendance at the ballots to begin with.
