He was simply telling the graduates that marriage and family should be the ultimate goal in life not a career. A career should be a financial road to get there comfortably. We evolved to be hunter-gatherers so naturally we find joy in spending time with eachother and bearing kids. He was simply giving these people a recipe for happiness in life.
