We love seeing all the love in the comments! This Man definitely deserves his flowers. He designed our Skatepark and is a life long friend and mentor now. This episode is legendary! He dropped a banger of a episode. Thank you Nine Club!
In 1999 my friends and I flew out of Omaha NE heading to the X Games in San Fran. Kanten was on our flight and gave us directions to Hubba Hideout, other spots to skate, and just chatted about skating with us. He’s definitely a stand up guy.
But they'll teach you how to do basic math and bake a crossaint with a piece of chocolate. School is where class really comes. The richer kids with trust funds are going to Ivy League schools, whether they earned it or not. The rest of us either go for a certificate, go into the workforce, or take on huge debt to get a degree that might you m, it might not. Luckily, Massachusetts is at the head of the curve, legal Cannabis, they're working on decriminalizing psychedelics, 99% universal health coverage + the 2nd best healthcare system in the country per state, and now we have free college tuition to get an Associates Degree. The Cannabis products have a 20% exercise, so there's a multi-billion dollar windfall of money to put back into infrastructure. Red states take note. If it wasn't for ignorance, greed, and regressiveness in the GOP, we would be living in a practical progressive utopia like the Nordic countries, The British Iles, and Western Europe. We are well known as the worst 1st world country because we keep backsliding.
Rad episode. I grew up east county SD (graduated Granite Hills '96). It was cool to hear about Jason Carter. I remember seeing him skate in Alpine, cruising down the sidewalk and busting a hefty nollie down a seven stair...around '93; mohawk and no socks. Thanks Kanten for telling all those SD memories. Stoked!
@@souluti0n Since Natas "left" Quik, he's been kinda hard to get to... but yes, Natas, Gonz-- Brad Dorfman would even be interesting. I've heard him tell some stories. Bill Silva... etc...
This dude helped design and coordinate the upcoming skate park in my small town in California. Such a rad dude to meet and a genius at skatepark design. Knew he was a former pro but didnt realize the impact he had on skateboarding. Im blown away. Great episode! Nipomo, CA skatepark coming at the end of this year!
Been waiting soooo long for this one, and it was soooo worth the wait! Been a life long fan, but had no idea of how deep his history in skateboarding really was/is so many great stories, and what a great story teller, he needs to come back for sure!
I’m have been waiting for this one. The Storm. His part got me so fired up. Much love to this man. I had some defcon 2 shoes and I learned to kick flip in them and my mom was pissed when I ripped through them in like a week. but hey I learned to flick.
Thank you for this one! Big fan of Kanten. A great skater and advocate for skaters. Stoked to see his impact continues through building great skateboard parks.
Remember he came to my shop when I was younger. It was during the Osiris southern comfort tour. Osiris was giving out free tshirts. I had a big poster signed by him on my bedroom wall. Good times
i enjoyed this way more than i thought i would. wasn’t a fan of his skating back in the day but i like him as a person now. goes to show you can’t skip any episodes!
I met Kanten Russell in an Osiris demo in Málaga, Spain! He did a big 360 ollie in the park. I could talk to him and he was very nice. Later he was throwing stickers to the crowd, and he pointed at me and handed me an ELENEX cap! I could not be happier :)
This has got to be one of the best episodes in a while, probably bc I am involved with kanten on a new park for my area. Super stoked on his expectations on parks and his design, can’t wait to skate his park he’s working on!
Haha, I knew Kelly would trip out when he mentioned Kevin Davis. That dude's seriously one of my favorite skaters of all time and I've only seen that Manual Labor part. Kanten's half-cab over the Penny chain bank is one of my favorite tricks of all time.
I met him a couple years ago at a town hall in Newnan Ga. He and his crew were gaining ideas from the locals for the new park. They nailed it. He was totally cool. Totally about helping the Community and it's skaters. TBH, I had no idea who he was. Found him here and am glad. Thanks for having him on.
This was a full trip down memory lane, thank you The Nine Club and Kanten. I went to high school with Kevin Davis and used to jump the fence at Santee skatepark before they finished the park. The Storm Premier... what a party!
Huge congrats to both the Nine Club on an excellent interview and to Mr. Kanten Russell for his legacy and to be able to still give back and still contribute to the skate scene to this day! Kanten was very laidback, informative and you could tell from since his formative years, he has gathered a few notches of wisdom on his belt. Nothing but good vibes on this interview and really loving the time stamp and video clip additions, guys! Keep it up guys and look forward to the next one!
First time I met Kanten all the E.C crew snuck into a movie theater to make fun of that Vanilla Ice movie. And my great friend R.R went in front and started dancing. Kanten and BFF Chris all yelling, go R.R, Carter was there.Don't know if they kicked us out or after we laughed out asses off just walked out.I think we walked out. Good memories man.
Met him a couple times when he came up to Minnesota to help get some skate plazas built. Nicest dude and down to earth. Great stories and an awesome legacy. 👊💥
really like how you have been adding the old video clips in when talking about them! also loving the time stamps! keep up the awesome content! we need lucero to talk about all the old heads and how he lost his street team because he didn't know tricks were switch!
9Club need to bring Mullen or Koston or Bieber to boost their ratings. Hell, they should held a conference, interviewing Mullen on stage in front of thousand of live audience for a special 9 Club episode !
Whatever happened he made an impact and impression. I remember the first time I saw him in a vid. It was a backside flip down like a 18 stair. Effortless. Never seen anyone do it quite like that before. Many jaws were on the floor.
I saw vid of a kid ollie a huge double set, i comment "thats some Kanten Russell stuff" algo pops this in my feed. i miss those days. i worked at a skate shop 2000-2009 and the escalation from then is wild. kids are wild these days. its fun to watch, but my knees hurt lol
His part on the Osiris-“The Storm” video was my favorite as an 8 year old skater. My older cousins were all in high school and they had all the skating videos like Zero “misled youth/dying to live”, Osiris “the storm”, èS “menikmati”, 818 boardshop, Baker2G, Adio, Shorty’s “Guilty/FulfillTheDream”, Daewon Vs Mullen, etc….
Dang this dude is chill as all get out. Ripping episode. "Bro"... "Size matters".. " less is more".. his personal/ family stories make this one of the top tier nine clubs. Big ups y'all
Another amazing episode you bloody legends!!! Loving the video grabs so we know what spot they are talking about, keep that shit going for sure. Cheers Mitch ✌🏻❤️🛹
@@thenineclub thank you for all you've done and still doing for skateboarding guys. Keep up the great work on the show. Will be amazing to see Peter Smolik on the show. Such a huge inspiration to my life growing up. If you ever need music for the show, how can I email you for future reference? Would love to give back to skateboarding through my music after all these years
I remember that year, I got the vhs tape and was so hyped on skating and then later that year I blew out my left knee and was out from skating for a little over a year. lol, video didn't cause me to blow my knee out, just skating for 15 years
@@thenineclub hahaha! Yes I do still watch it! I feel connected when watching it because its the same VHS that my younger self watched, its the same vid i shared with friends, its the same vid I watched religiously before going out to skate back then & today! 🤘👽👽👽
Skateboards bought at the swap meet combined with the story of the random launch ramp really resonated with me growing up in So Cal in the 80s. Also, ditch skating..
We didn't get to hear the answer to Vincent Alvarez's childhood question: What happened in that big ollie clip when Kanten touched his face immediately after stomping his landing?
Great stuff as always, would love to see some of the behind the scenes photos used after the credits in video form on the experience, little sprinkles of extra here and there youknowhaddahmsayin?
