Kanye's 'Slow Jamz' Shoot Spirals Out of Control in "jeen-yuhs" Unreleased Clip

In creating the three-part Kanye West documentary jeen-yuhs: a Kanye Trilogy, director Coodie Simmons shot hundreds of hours of footage of West over two decades. Simmons’ exhaustive approach meant that he left plenty of footage on the cutting room floor-including this clip, presented as an exclusive by TIME. (jeen-yuhs is produced by TIME Studios, the film and television division of TIME.)
The clip takes place during the video shoot for “Slow Jamz” in 2004. At the time, West had just achieved his first major success as a solo artist: the single “Through the Wire,” which detailed the aftermath of his nearly-fatal car crash and was climbing the charts both in the U.S. and abroad. While he hoped to replicate the success of the song and its video (which was directed by West, Simmons, and Chike Ozah), the “Slow Jamz” shoot was far more tortured, plagued by creative differences, logistical problems, and financial limitations.

You people are oblivious. Firstly, the song is half of Twista's. (He performed it numerous times without Ye.) Secondly, IT'S NOT HIS VISION BECAUSE HE ISN'T THE DIRECTOR. Videos are still a form of filmmaking which is a director's medium. Ye stans are the most basic, blinded people. I'm a fan of his too, but he literally says "no" like a freaking baby at some point. Haha. If this an actor started doing this type of shit on a set -- even an A lister -- nobody would feel inclined to work with them again. There's an implicit level of trust you're supposed to have for a director, which most performers/writers have.

It's obviously all edited but if you know you know, he's been riding their asses all shoot long arguing with everybody. Otherwise they wouldnt be rolling their eyes at him. In the clip he basically said, "i told this lady I want xyz, 24 hours ago but she failed". Obviously, he didnt just tell her to do one thing, it was a list of things he wanted and one thing wasnt up to par with what he expected. Why throw her under the bus after he's already getting some underpaid PA underling to fulfill his demands last second. Ultimately, it was a fucking video for a song, remember that some 20 years ago? It's not like he was shooting a 100 million dollar Hollywood movie. And the video still came out shit and it wasnt because of stupid record player. And here we are, 2022, Kanye thinks he's a prophet, literally, while threatening to send goons to his ex's new boyfriend and makes, wait for it, a video about wanting to kill him. I mean, it's just proof, that if you have visions, you need to see a doctor. No actual genius is mostly busy telling others he's a genius.

This video is a prime example of why the industry and media acted and still act as if Kanye is problematic. He asserts his thoughts at times where many artists let a "Employee & Employer" setting take place, but Kanye puts himself as an equal or speaks out on creative control, which most directors hate. Kanye is similar to how Pac was, he speaks his mind regardless and the Jeen-yuhs docu shows that its not a bad thing, he likely wouldnt have even became a rapper nor even git the chance to drop "College Dropout" without his mentality of Drive and Persistence. He took his life into his own hands, made himself as an artist, and never took no for an answer and mever settled for less. While I dont agree with everything the dude has said or done by far, his drive was/is admirable and inspiring and shows what persistence can achieve!

The thing that most civilians here don't understand is that Ye isn't directing the music video. It's not his vision once someone else begins directing it. He's not in any position to make demands like this. Imagine someone doing this shit to a legendary music video director like Mark Romanek. If an actor as big as Leo or Pitt started insisting on certain pieces for the art department -- especially in this manner -- they would seem loony. The song was half of Twista's anyway. This has less to do with Ye being a creative force and has more to do with him being borderline autistic...in addition to not fully understanding this process. This is why the guy felt obligated to make three Jesus Walks videos and the last one was by far the worst. This is also why the guy ended up spending 30 grand of his own money on the Through The Wire video when I could have made the exact same product for no more than 4 grand back in 2004.

This is class for all artist and people in general. You don't see artist taking control of their work, because most of them have already been bought. If you don't have an understanding of who you are and what you bring to the table, how do you expect anyone else too? As you can see from the very beginning, Ye has taken the initiative to be in control of his destiny, even though God is the overseer. There is still room for him to grow, as there is for all of us, but, you cant deny where his will and ambition has taken him. People with backbone don't have to explain who they are, it speaks in volume

I understand exactly what he's feeling and any type of department director, creative or team manager will. When people don't SEE AND FEEL your vision or don't really care about their job, they won't come through the way you need them to EVEN if your paying them. You have to repeat yourself over and over again to get it in their head because they're just not willing to put the effort in to understand. I think the best way to make people understand is get them to really really see and feel the vision as best you can before putting them in there to create and manage them. But how Kanye is acting isn't wrong. It's a person who believes 10000% in their creativity and vision and wants it to come to life and ppl dont do their jobs right. that's all.
