back when paper cuts and bad grades was the worst things that could happen to you before friends and family separated passed away or got incarcerated way back when...
@Sam how deep the line is, is in the eyes of whoever is reading the lyrics or listening to the song, people's experiences and how they can relate and expound upon what is said in itself can make it a deep line. But I get you...
In 2005 his Debut Album "The college Dropout" Released in 2004 although I can see the confusion as this seems like a Song from that album (Which could also go into his third album "Graduation") so yeah!
I remember when kanye came out. the context of his rap was so counter to the other rappers at the time. his message was super real and then continued to drop hot albums back to back. respect.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. The lyrics, beat, melody rapping, singing .perfect harmony. The old Mr West is in a class by itself.
@@mintymojito9057 I disagree.His first 5 albums were masterpieces.Now I don't pick up what he's putting down.I still listen to the old Mr.West tho.classic.
"The devil is alive I feel em breathin, saying money is the key so keep on dreamin, and put them lottery tickets just to tease us" some of the realist shit
my cousin Peter Sulszka was the animation director for this music video, always love that!! He also was a lead animator for Celebrity Death Match for those nostalgic 90s babies out there reading this.
praying for kanye he was never the same after his mom past regardless of what u think of him his craft is beautiful and his mind is complex we always so quick to call someone crazy with out understanding what makes them act the way they do
One of the best songs of this age from any artist. It sounds like the song they play when you’re looking at the slideshow of what was your life when it’s over.
@@aliG2500 LMAO this is what happens when you mix severe mental illness with narcissism & the idea wealth = intelligence. He was amazing at 1 thing: making music. But FAR too many ppl don't seem to understand what it means to be a savant or a specialist/expert. It doesn't mean you're actually smart outside of you're field LMAO and he's drunk his own coolaid
@@aliG2500 it honestly is kind of wild how a guy who resonated with so many people because of socially conscious lines like this song has now says shit that has the complete opposite effect, artists are weird tho
I remember 4 years ago I was listening to this song sometime early in the morning, reminiscing about life and what I wanted to achieve. My parents are immigrants from Turkey and have worked their nails off to put me through school, even if it meant missing meals. I promised myself that early morning that I'll pay it forward. Today I received my degree as a civil engineer. It was the first time I had ever seen my father cry. Here I am, laying in bed; at 2:30 am, 4 years later. Nothing is ever promised- our time on this earth is limited, we are all capable of achieving great things. All we have is memories to look back on when those we love part from us to hopefully rest in paradise; let's make it count. Thank you Mr. West for being a part of my story.
See this is why I want to make music. Because we all are on our own journeys but music gives us the chance to combine and improve eachothers journeys. More than anything kanye made me want to inspire others the way he inspired me because its the greatest feeling ever. If he wasnt already so damn full of himself I would give him a hug and thank him for all hes done for me.
This song takes me back to my childhood i remember as a kid in elementary school when this song first played on MTV Jams i was addicted to this song and now im 25 and im at a very challenging part of life and this song brought back great memories and well needed tears.
@@manaspradhan8041 cop means to purchase so the line infers that black men cant buy riches and materialistic things without being seen suspicious by police
I wasn't no gangsta or thug. I was just a college dropout young black male from the hood working and trying to find his way in life when this song came out. Kanye was speaking for millions of us when this album dropped. This will always be my favorite album
Black women with this problem so.... imagine what l group through. You never see the black women with the group of white people... we aren’t accepted much by any group if we aren’t twerking ratchets with loud personalities so yeah 🤷🏾♀️
@@PlaygirlCartee that's because that's what you expect I have friends that are black girls and I don't expect anything like that out of them they are just good friends and financially they are doing better than me. Maybe it's just where and who you hang out with choose some better friends
i’m 22 and 18 years later this remains one of my most favourite songs ever. it reminds me of the memories i first remember from my childhood, happy days🫶
It's really true, that often times, without good catchy background music, the song just won't hit. Lyrics are important too, but lots of bad lyrics are still hits. I happen to enjoy this song musically and lyrically. It's also worth mentioning that I just discovered this song.
It's crazy. This man has been in our lives for two decades. And each song we hear, we can then attach to ourselves, and who we were at that time in our lives. Then think about who we are now.
Dope music awesome Cool good deep Dope poetry Cool vibe soul vh1 soul music best ever kid too Music video kanye west music and poet power culture soul music best ever really mam take back memory power peace hope poet powerful mc best music spoke word
No one ever brings it up in best lyrics, but I honestly think "they say people in your life are seasons" is one of the smartest lyrics ever said. This era Kanye was golden, it's a real shame.
2023 and it still hits a different part of my soul....chills listening to this!! College Dropout 🔥🔥🔥 Late Registration 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Graduation 🥇🥇🏆🏆🏆 that's just facts
This is actually my favorite song ever...idk but it just brings me the most nostalgia and reminds me of when i was a kid and didnt understand anything and my mom always played this cd...but on top of that it just takes me back before my mom was mentally ill and dated douches and before my parents split...my mom always calls me her little bear too so i always felt a connection with the yeezy bear...so ill always defend kanye because his music always impacts me in some way...and now ive always remembered the lesson of this song "nothings ever promised tomorrow, today" and its made a lot of events in my life easier to live with
This was very articulate and well written. Emotional intelligence is key in the communicative process the art is trying to convey to you. I remember personally just being younger and listening to these songs just being in the moment. Now it’s hard to get out of my head at 24. These songs are just a time capsule of memory, nostalgic solace, and tears of joy. Good note my man. Hope you are well. I wish you love.
Thats similar to my younger life, without the kanye west music though sadly. I wish i didn’t understand anything again, life was so much more enjoyable
Andrew Okumu nah man. I pretty much only liked blood on the leaves.... that's pretty much it. My favorite albums from him are late registration and graduation
The kid was neglected by mom, and the explosion caused by her neglect symbolically freed the boy from the bullshit. Same thing the lady with the black eye... Kanye is going to free her from the abusive situation she is in. Kanye is a hero/escape from the madness.
Adam was the perfect singer to collaborate with on this one. Even kanye knew he made the right choice with that falsetto at the end..look at the little nod he gave adam...still sounds dope after all this time.
hahaha it's funny because i always thought this song would be so much better without adam. I thought his vocal tone stuck out like a sore thumb on this track. its all personal opinion but honestly ill still side with you on this one just because I have blind faith for kanyes taste in anything sonic.
Same man, its like no one cares to make good rap anymore with a few exceptions like kendrick lamar but rappers like young thug and future ruined rap. maybe old Kanye will come back along with the old lil wayne
Let me tell you a story.. just cause this song randomly came up on my recommended. I was addicted to opiates really bad from ages 14-18, I was absolutely hopeless determined to die in the streets of Chicago and this song gave me the courage to get my life together and I currently have 4 1/2 years clean and I can say I love my life today.. sober date 10-22-16 and I turn 24 years old on 10-4.. crazy that just listening to this song brought me back to a place I almost forgot I went thru cause it feels like it was so long ago
People used to say that way before. It's really annoying. If an artist does something great, why would you want them to do the exact style again? If you can't keep up, then keep quiet.
My 💔💔breaks for you. However, I'm 😊to know that you had many good years with him. "It IS better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all."
“Claiming money is the key so keep on dreaming. And put them lottery tickets up just to tease us.” These lyrics hit different after transitioning from grade school to an independent adult...
This is soul food man.... Wish this song came out right now, the world needs more music like this now more than ever. All good tho, timeless music lasts forever. -Paint The Sky,Blew!!!
Kanye has made some of my favorite music and he is one of the best Artists imo but he not one of the best MC's. His wordplay or bars isn't what makes Kanye so great. It is his production and message (in his old music) and his ability to create a project
makes me think of relationships that ended that I thought would always be…gotta accept reality but the memories seem so real, but then I snap out of it and reality hits me like a brick….makes me tear up but this song helps a lot.
This has got to be my favorite. In an era of overstimulation, explosions, & high severity topics, this song has stood on its own eccentricity. The melody itself is very simple & easy to recreate; this along with Adam levine’s simple chorus encapsulates how small & innocent the story Kanye is trying tell. That even mundane life can hurt a good kid in the future. “But we’ll find a way” Edit: yes I’m aware of what Kanye doing now. It only amplifies the tragedy of this song even more.
Exactly as well as the previous song i forgot the name but one of the lines was " the pretties one are the wicked ones “ it goes kinda like that … that lyric represents freaking Kim K.
Hey guys here from 2024 we have a piano in my school and I'm at primary school, my teacher (mr daily)said if I can try and learn this song because I can play on piano lots of songs and he said if I learn this song he will give me 20 dojos if you dont know what dojos is its basically points and wish me luck by pressing like (you dont have to if you dont want to cus I'm not bragging for likes)btw if you wanna know which year I am in year 5 wish me luck pls❤
