+Tom D I love that line cuz it's cum and correct like erect and lupes exit of his verse is just awesome and everything about this song and Kanye west is just awesome
+Bobby Watts Bouché still hilarious after all these years. that's what the hood was thinking about Pam Anderson struggling to see why white people love her so much.
+Bobby Watts Bouché Lupe RIPPED this guess Whose on third, Lupe Steal like Lupin the third! (Lupin the Third, anime about a master thief) Mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn I'm trying to stop lyin (Lion) Like Im Mum Ra (Thunder Cats reference)
Lupe's verse is my cardinal definition of a perfectly executed guest verse. Come in, throw in some fire, get people interested in you, but leave so you don't overstay your welcome. This one verse single handedly jump started his career, and for good reason.
Remember this being the first time I heard this and he dropped Kick Push later. I was kinda disappointed cause the song was a little buns but I felt like he was low key the best rapper I've heard. I was looking for reasons to inwardly hate on him because he was just too good. Lowkey could've made 2 verses better than Kanye did on this.
I 💯 Percent agree. Kanye is symbolic. 💪 He got alot people of all races" through the wire of hard times" I wish him the best in his issues he has going on with Kim and his kids. 👍
Sadly, he has become a villain to me. The way he has treated his wife in public is the sign of an abuser. Don’t even get me started on that disgusting Trump stuff. Kanye broke my heart. He was a good guy once.
This has got to be one of the best music videos ever produced, everything about it. The Curtis mayfield sample the old school 70s setting. The fact there’s a theatrical plot. God I love this.
10 years ago I was listening this and dreaming about living in States. Now I am living in America and making my way to earn a USA citizenship, dreams do happen if you are tenacious.
Yeah right, kanye never lets you down,... unless you're a cripple fan in a wheelchair who cant use his legs, and then kanye tells you to stand up in the crowd, otherwise he wont start the song...😒. Seriously. Kanye might have SOME decent songs, but he is the epitome of an Arrogant Dickhead... if you have ANY empathy for other human beings then you would have to agree that he is a bit of a wanker...
I'm eastern european (bulgarian). I remember back in 2006-2007 when I was watching MTV in high school, this video and song would play and I would get vibing! I hardly knew who Kanye West would get to be back then. Marvin Gaye is watchin from above and feelin' proud - Kanye really moved on up. Despite what some people say about Kanye, to me he was always a visionary, always an artist and a good musician. And this right here is my favorite track by him.
We're maybe another 10 to 15 years away from looking back at Kanye and realizing how much he contributed to Hip Hop, and also proclaiming him as one of the baddest musical artist across genres ever.
Brendano Di Cafrio He's a silly conspiracy theorist and edgy kids overrate him saying he's the best musician ever when he's not even close objectively, also believe all or most of what he says blindly without doing any research.
tesuo and youth was the best lyrically and food and liquor 2 is the best commercially but Lasers always gave me goosebumbs, it was the reason I really got into rap music.
This tune is one of the most uplifting vibes ive felt. It is lyrically on point in regards to matching the significance of the sample music. The "come up in the spot looking extra fly" is electric. Yes Ye.
@@chiefsosa3009 thing is, I don't really think his rapping is what makes him stand out. It's his creativity, producing and general ability to create a song that sounds incredibly good while still being groundbreaking that makes him one of the greatest musicians alive.
you miss the old kanye, straight from the go kanye, chop up the soul kanye, set in his goals kanye...yo hate the new kanye, the bad mood kanye...lol kanye knows you miss old kanye but kanye has to evolve. cannot make the same songs for 15-16 years, your career'd be over real quick...@Tomeka Baxter is right, he still chops up hella samples
2:45 "do you know who i am??" "this is why, this is why we can't never work out Nia." "do you know who i am??" "I know, i just said your name! i know who you are" HAHAHAH
“I just said your name!!” This scene always made me laugh! I don’t think Ye will be appreciated until he dies. That’s partially on him, but the man changed the game over and over and over!
+cooperrod909 because im saying you dont have to love someone? You know people have different preferences... Guess your not the intelligent one here buddy but thats okay because it makes me appreciate my brain
I used to drink after my shifts and blast this in my room late at nights with a wish of wanting to afford independence while not having to work in a horrible environment. I feared changed for so long. 4 years later I am Blasting this nostalgia filled glory in my new car I finally managed to get late into my 20s…while on the way to my new job that pays me enough to finally afford a little more than the car payments, all while in a whole new state because I said “one day” too many times. I left everything behind, restarted my life and have finally started to see all of my hard work and downfalls turn around into growth. Sobriety. Caring for myself. This is just the beginning ! Listening to Kanye’s old hits is an instant self celebration mode !! 💛
I love that they go ahead and show you the bones of the track by just playing the sample during the technical difficulties part, then cutting back into the beat... It hits so much harder and is even more fun to listen to when you realize how he sampled this.
No matter what...this song will always have a special place in my heart dawg. Thank you Ye for changing my life. Imma listen to this on a plane next year when I go visit my pops/sister. On my mama imma do it dawg.
I wasn't even musically mature when this came out, but every time it aired, i never changed the channel. Dam it pains me to no end that this era is no more.
"Guess who's on third, Lupe steal (still) like Lupin the 3rd." "I'm trynna stop lyin' (lion) like I'm Mumm-ra, but I'm not lying when I'm laying on the beat." Lupe is both the king of homophones and black nerds everywhere.
+ldbboosha He's literally one of the greatest lyricists to ever pick up the mic. If you haven't heard "Murals" or "Prisoners 1 & 2" those tracks are evident of that fact. Lupe is amazing
Kanye is really a genius. Or at least, he was. This video, start to finish, is one of the greatest music videos of all time. On top of all that, the song itself is insanely good. Lupe's verse, Kanye humming along to the sample, even the reference to the whole George bush thing... he could poke fun at himself and not take himself too seriously. I really wish Kanye would go back to these simpler times when it was about the music and the artistry. It was the quality, and the passion. This is the Kanye we miss and support. He was real.
Lupes verse is...legendary...he actaully buried Kanye in this song, I have it on vinyl from times it was released. But rspct to Kanye, no matter how he got mind fucked over time.
This song makes me break down and cry because of the pain and because of the lyrics and happiness of knowing that things can change even when you think it can’t. Especially that second verse about “dawg I was having nervous breakdowns” like man I always felt that.because it’s true man it makes you feel like everybody is rich and what’s wrong with you? Why aren’t you making it in life? Then you get that promotion or that job or life changing level up. All praise be to God man
I grew up watching Evil Knievel , remember sweet Nia Long on Boyz n the Hood, Ms. Ellis Ross on Girlfriends, and Pamela on home improvement this video is pure genius. Thank you Mr. West. .
I remember this music video being on MTV when it first came out. I still often think of it and come back to it to watch. Literally this is one of the best music videos ever made. The whole thing is genius. And to think Kanye put up all the money he had to make this video because he didn’t like the one the label put money up for. He risked it all for this and came out a winner with this.
nope plenty of artist try and mimic the same shit they did when they got famous like nas and end up falling off. kanye evolves with the time and innovates like 808s and heartbreak
