Why I love the outro in 'Runaway'. Possibly one of Kanye's greatest songs, Runaway is a beautiful introspective look into the mind of self-loathing narcissism. I wrote a little write-up about MBDTF and Runaway here a while back, if you're interested. Anyways, a while back, I read a theory about how Darth Vader's infamous "NOOO!" scene in Star Wars Episode 3 was due to his computer's translation system not understanding the magnitude of human pain, and how it's best interpretation was a robotic scream. All that pain, all that hurt, and all of that suffering from a broken heart and the only way the computer can interpret it is by just screaming, "No!". Personally, I've done some messed up things in my past relationships. Runaway is my favorite song because every line applies to my past life, so as you can imagine I was a tremendously awful boyfriend. While the first part of the song serves as a vessel to express my tangible thoughts, the second part (the outro) serves as the avenue to express my abstract emotions. The pain, the regret, the guilt. The outro is different for everyone because it's a robotic translation of the listener's confession of sins. The only audible part of the outro is when Kanye says, "I'm gonna be honest...." before he spiral downs into an emotional breakdown. Try it out yourself. If you've never screwed anyone over, then good for you. Stay that way. But for those who have made life-changing mistakes, take the time to really listen to that outro and really open yourself up. Be honest with yourself. Scream and cry alongside it.
