From the 48 laws of power: "Pablo Picasso never allowed himself to fade into the background; if his name became too attached to a particular style, he would deliberately upset the public with a new series of paintings that went against all expectations. Better to create something ugly and disturbing, he believed, than to let viewers grow too familiar with his work." ....Thus, The Life of Pablo.
difference is Picasso changed his differing styles by himself. He didn't pay dozens of painters to touch or guide his style into his own works. Kanye is purposely fading into the background, he's a clout chaser
Guys!! I understand that the album sounded very incoherent, I thought the same, but that's why this one guy who I can't remember made a playlist version of the album without the filler and sounds 5 times better than the original and actually has a theme. Here it is. Kanye West TLOP Playlist Tracklist Introduction- 1. Low Lights ACT 1 Kanye is high on life and is corrupted by fame 2. Famous 3.Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1 4. Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 2 5.Waves 6. Highlights. 7. Feedback ACT 2 Kanye is slowly coming down from the high and waking up, having a moment of clarity. 8. Freestyle 4 9. 30 Hours. 10. No More Parties In LA. 11. Fade ACT 3 Kanye makes a dramatic change and finds his faith and embraces a new life, one with God. 12. FML 13. Real Friends 14. Wolves 15. Ultralight Beam
Hey, I made a playlist based off of the one you made but a little different & I thought you'd like it 1. Low Lights 2. Famous 3. Father Stretch My Hands Pt.1 4. Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 2 5. Facts (Charlie Heat Version) 6. Highlights 7. Feedback 8. Freestyle 4 9. Silver Surfer Intermission 10. Waves 11. 30 Hours 12. Fade 13. I Love Kanye 14. No More Parties in LA 15. Real Friends 16. FML 17. Wolves 18. Ultra Light Beam
+Legend Does Music (Brandon Finley) Not trying to hate, but I still believe the previous one is better. Why? Filler is cut off Ex: (facts, SSI, I love Kanye). And overall the themes matched with the acts in accordance to their songs better but to each their own.
+DojoMuppet I am 110% sure it being unfinished is not why they skipped it. It is still part of the album and we can not change that. They may have not cared for it or forgot.
I just listened to it for the first time today (I was 12 when this released) and I really like it. Its probably my joint favourite Kanye album out of the ones I've heard.
thelankytank Yeah. At first I didn't care for it but the more I listened to it the more I loved the production and vocals, and that album pretty much made me like auto tune.
LMFAO Myke literally spoke my mind, I enjoyed this more than I thought I would BUT.......... if someone told me they thought it was awful I wouldn't even try to dispute it. Still doesn't come close to any of his best work.
I miss the old deadendhiphop. The straight from the go deadendhiphop. Ken got too old and now he only likes old jazz records. Feefo can actually articulate his thoughts. Myke now likes albums that have wack lyrics. I can't even remember the other guy's name cause he hardly talks. I miss the old deadendhiphop. I still love deadendhiphop. And I love deadendhiphop like Ken loves Purple Polo shirts.
Feefo is too much of a coward to maintain an opinion, I've always found that very annoying in this channel. Whenever he starts speaking his mind, he gets to nervous when the rest don't approve of him, and he quickly changes his mind against the odds of standing by himself. You can say what you want about Myke, whenever he states an opinion he owns it and gives his best arguments.
@@albums8825 I mean he's legit the only one who stands by the fact that he doesn't like doom all that much and he's infamously known for his "do it bump in the whip" so to say he's to cowardly to bring up his true opinions when that quotes become a staple for the channel is crazy to me
@@poppatato4183 Whenever someone disagrees with him he quickly changes his language, he starts to ask for approval before he even begins to talk and he gets nervous all of the sudden, he stops in his tracks and starts asking questions to everyone else. He tries to make ends meet so much, which may be a noble act, but in the end he just looks stupid and takes up time. Yes, he has disagreed with many things in the past, but he takes ages to get there, and always seems like he feels ashamed about it, and puts thousands of conditional, buts and maybes to get everybody to not bash his opinion whenever it is even mildly controversial. I don't know the guy but in regards to his opinion and arguing, I always felt he is a coward. Myke always lives through his opinion and doesn't give a fuck, and says it like it is (or maybe like it ain't, but he owns it). It's all about attitude.
Beezy gave the perfect example. On Mbtdf he was rhyming. So why are people giving him a pass on this album saying he just produces good music. Na Kanye can spit when he puts the effort in.
But it depends on what you listen to Kanye for. For me it's always been the aesthetic and production value. I never went to Kanye for bars, mbdtf too. The best parts of mbdtf he's not rapping (second half of runaway)
Freestyle 4 is one of my favs off TLOP. I see it as he's on drugs at this really high-class party & his reality is being distorted so he's just losing it. i love it.
what I liked most about this other then good music is the comedic lines he dropped. there wasn't a bunch of them but when they happened they were hilarious
what I respect about Kanye the most is he is constantly changing. yeezus sounds nothing like mbdtf, 808's sounds nothing like late registration, graduation different than college dropout etc. every album is a new sound, no one on is level when it comes to creativity
You guys got such diverse opinions, that's what makes this channel so dope. Glad to see you guys taking the time to appreciate the music. Don't rush the reviews, take your time to formulate your own thought-out opinions, like Myke pointed out. Kinge getting all salty was hilarious though. Keep grinding.
808s is a good album but overhyped with the influence. It's more of a cult classic that the stans made it appear to be classic. The album have huge influence directly from T-Pain mixed with his emotions at the time.
808s & Heartbreak is a fantastic pop album. Definitely his most underrated album IMO. As for TLOP, it feels like a compilation of unreleased and demo tracks. You get the best and worst of Kanye.
Myke I could not agree with you more. I hated it at first, was complaining to my friends and telling people not to listen. Eventually it clicked and it has literally been the only thing I've listened to since. I'll listen to it back to back, at least several times a day every day. I've never played an album more right after release than this one. Also, on FML, strong agree, my favorite song on the album (next to Freestyle 4 and Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1). Outro is one of my favorite Kanye moments ever. Incredible.
+Kennith Inge ken you GOTTA do a video talking about Kanyes madness from 808s onwards, you touched on it here but I swear you mentioned a few years ago you wanted to do a vid on it, would be dope to hear y'alls opinions on him
This was a good episode. Everyone said their thing. I love it when Kinge goes off. The only thing is though, I want you guys to go back to the old format where you all discussed the album at once as a collective, rather than just taking turns. I know it was chaotic at times, but I like DEHH for the group discussions, and with this current format the discussions really gets toned down. Also, it would be a nice change of pace if you guys get more in-depth with these reviews, like discuss it more thoroughly, and you guys can get into things like the themes, meaning, and artistry about the album. There's a lot of things that could've been touched on that that hasn't; e.g. like the outro on FML, the eerie sample "see through the veil, and forget all your cares" and how Kanye followed that with pouring his heart out singing which sounded so raw and emotionally compelling. In any case, just in general getting more elaborate with the reviews would be nice in my opinion. But again, I still enjoyed this review, thanks for making it.
It is all over the place, but I do see a sense of cohesion. The album for me fits into 3 thirds: Ultralight beam-Highlights (High energy, uplifting, funny, the joy/positives of self-indulgence) Freestyle 4-Wolves (the dark side/negatives of self-indulgence, Kanye's self-frustration, mania, struggles with growing up and dealing with others) Silver Surfer-Fade (Bonus tracks, more conventional songs, Kanye's ready to make music again) The original cover that asked "which one?" I think is a reference to his struggle between being Pablo Picasso and Pablo Escobar (a brilliant artist or a megalomaniac billionaire criminal). In reality, he can't approach either of their levels because most of the dialogue about him is about inconsequential tabloid bullshit.
I pretty much had the same experience Myke had when listening to this. Went from "gaaaaa-bage" to "greatness". Oddly enough same thing happen with Yeezus. After revisiting it a few times it just grew on me.
I was the same way with yeezus. HATED it at first and now I love it. I hated this album at first but going back it's starting to grow on me more and more.
I'm actually surprised Myke liked it. I literally had the same experience with the album as you Myke. At first I hated it, but now I really like the album.
Kanye doesn't even focus on music right now, his passion is in fashion. Can't force the guy to spend a month in Hawaii with a huge group of people to grind out a GOAT album. Music will never be his #1 focus anymore. TLOP still dope album though
Jesus I love Myke, I've rarely disagreed with him and he nails it on the head especially on this album. I'm not sure if I love or hate I Love Kanye, but literally I agree with every word you said
I think the whole "it grows on you" line is such a fucking cop out. It was so refreshing when my friend said today, "The more you listen to Kanye's new album, the shittier it gets." I died laughing.
+otheamazing Agreed. "What the fuck right now? What the fuck right now? What the, what the fuck right now? What if we fuck right now? What if we fucked right in the middle" Seriously, what the fuck was he on when he wrote that shit? One of the most jarring tracks Kanye has ever made, I cringed so hard.
I love ya'll man, always got the anticipation building for the reviews, we know we gettin a fully formed opinion and you guys just got that chemistry bwoooi yeeha, thanks lads much love
Gotta love people calling Ye misogynist on Famous for that Taylor line, even tho on that VERY SAME SONG he pays amazing homage to Sister Nancy the first female dancehall artist
I like The Life of Pablo. I'd give it an 8/10. I keep listening to it and the songs are great. The production and features are dope, but there are too many wack lines Kanye throws in there. He needed to sit down and write some better verses. TLOP is not wack, nor is it a classic. I think it's a solid album with some serious lyrical issues.
if you "miss the old Kanye" and want him to make another album he's already made, you don't understand an artist. to quote Jay-Z, "n****s want my old shit, buy my old album." keep progressing and making new sounds, Ye.
My mom hates Kanye. I mention Taylor Swift over Kendrick at the Grammys My mom Immediately goes to hating Kanye I play Ultra Light Beam for her She was ok with it Chance's Verse comes on Hears one curse word Turns it off Goes back to hating Kanye DAMN
I like how myke enjoyed this, cool to see. If u look at the second track list he put out it would've been fairly cohesive and didn't have the bad songs on it. Anyway i feel like the more songs the better so I don't mind having like fade or facts on if
I agree with Myke 100 percent! Except on FML I thought that song was just ok, but the album is good to me except for Facts,Wolves, and Fade. Freestyle 4 and 30 hours are two of my favs. 30hrs kinda reminds of Graduation Ye. I do wish I got better rapping on the album.Don't know how I feel about a new album coming in the summer...Dope Review Always.
It is not named after Picasso. He tweeted that it was named after Apostle Paul. He also tweeted a couple days ago he is dropping another album in the summer.
Guys Kanye just announced a new album this summer, I have a feeling TLOP was just a way to promote his fashion line while getting people to sign up for Tidal. Fingers crossed we get something MBDTF level.
+persona It is going to be watch the throne 2 it has been teased by mike dean the producer. Secondly TLOP isn't finished everybody that bought tickets to go see the listening party in the movies including myself got a message saying the version on tidal was halfway complete (kind of like a demo) and the full project will be out in the coming days but still has not been released.
Complaining about the lyrics on a Kanye album at this point in his career is like complaining about the acting in Pornography. Good review guys; agree with pretty much everything Myke said.
What no one understands about Kanye at any point in his career is that he was never much of a lyricist or a rapper honestly he is an artist but of course you guys don't understand that.
I'ma challenge what you guys are saying about this album not being cohesive one. This album moves seamlessly. It feels like waves. "Ultralight beam" maybe a hell of a different song than "father stretch my hands" but that transition is smooth as fuck. The outro and into to those songs have similar tones then add the hook and it picks up. It makes all the sounds make sense together and that continues throughout the whole album with many the exclusion of "I love kanye" but even that song had a purpose in the place it was placed. That was like his little intermission, a little fun break then we get waves which is a perfect transition into the darker side of the album then we have silver surfer to transition us back up with 30 hours. There's a reason why all of these songs are in the order that they are in. This is certainly one of the easiest albums for me to listen to back to back because of how cohesive it actually is. It feels like waves. Him wanting to name his album that is understandable. I first listened to this on tidal where they have this smooth transitional thing where it plays every song in order right after the other, and i found myself listening to this album back to back almost twice without even really noticing. I can see this album doing well being performed live in order.
The point of the album is to be all over the place. Starting from gospel to new Kanye to old Kanye, to dumb shit to real shit. Even the marketing scheme and the album cover is all over the place. You have to look at the whole production outside the music itself.
I thought Myke was gonna roast tf out of this album but I feel the same way abt the album pretty much. N I constantly get called a "Kanye Stan" *eyeroll* lol
chill with the disrespect towards the guy's opinions on this I remember when dehh was a place where people would talk about hip hop and not be so fucking ignorant about it in the comment section thanks for the review guys I enjoy everything y'all do and respect all y'all opinions even if I disagree.
I agree with Ken that everything about this album was all over the place, but the thing he’s not getting is that’s sort of what makes it special. I think the experience is coherent and enjoyable for me and that’s all that matters. But I do understand his frustrations, I LIKE it but it’s not objectively near his earlier stuff. I do think Donda was exactly what he said about Kanye trying to blend in a lot more then this album
Awesome album. My go to at the moment even tho not a lot at all has come out yet this year, but I can't stop listening to it. Some skippable songs here and there but overall another great kanye project
it took a few listens for me to feel this album. it's not what i expected after hearing Real Friends and No More Parties in LA, but it's much better than Yezzus. I like the samples used in 30 hours and Real friends, the beats both remind me of some extra mello 90s rap city video. i hope he does videos for those songs, it would be cool to see what he comes up with
I really dig this album a lot, but I do admit, there are some pretty dumb things about it. Production, as always, was amazing, but a lot of tracks feel like wasted space, in a sense. "Silver Surfer Interlude," "Lowlights" (which I actually thought was cool to put right before "Highlights"), and "Facts" especially. Nobody thought it would be on there, but it was. All I have left to say is that "All Day" and "Only One" better be on Turbo Grafx 16 or whatever other 2 or more albums he's supposed to be putting out this year.
