Time Stamps: 1:20 - I Thought About Killing You 5:55 - Yikes 9:02 - All Mine 11:53 - Wouldn’t Leave 15:18 - No Mistakes 17:18 - Ghost Town 21:45 - Violent Crimes
Ghost Town reminded you of Kids See Ghosts because Freeee is literally the 2nd part of Ghost Town. It also features Kid Cudi who sang the "I've been trying to make you love me..." part.
MY FAVOURITE ALBUM - I was at the darkest moment of my life when ye released. One day I was listening to it while painting fences, and with each song that played (I had the album on a loop) I could feel the darkness peel away in layers. 'I Thought About Killing You' showed me the value of airing your thoughts, no matter how dark - they're just thoughts. Yikes showed me how guys like me could be amped up and do wild things with those thoughts (SOMETIMES I SCARE MYSELF/THIS THE TYPE OF HIGH THAT GET YOU GUNNED DOWN). All Mine is the inner monologue of a 20 year old man, as I was. Ghost Town made me realise that I nobodies opinions of me should hurt me anymore. I have since felt kinda freeeeeeee.... glad you have the same passion for this piece of art as I do Merc, fan of your work too king! ye helped save me edit: Glad to see it's your favourite too Merc - this one Kanye fan that ain't mad at you for that!
yes this album flew past me when it came out but now its one of my favourites from kanye tbh. if he added 5 or 6 more tracks of the quality of the rest this would of been top 3 imo
I agree strongly. Top 5 Ye albums. People hate it so much because it isn’t as overblown and melodramatic as MBDTF is. There’s beauty in subtlety, sadly not many people realize that
Thats exactly why I love it, every sound feels very intentional like you say. I think he accomplished everything he wanted to on this album and people are too eager to compare it to his projects that are clearly meant to be broader and grander in scope.
It's funny because his ADHD is definitely what keeps me interested, he can say something incredibly profound and then hilariously dumb in the course of seconds.
It’s a great album. It got hate because it didn’t live up to Kanye standards. But in reality if someone like Tyga released this exact album, he’d get a Grammy nod. That’s how good Kanye is.
If you liked the idea of a short and concise album, I'd definitely recommend Daytona by Pusha T. It's an album that came out a week before Ye, and it's entirely produced by Kanye. That summer 2018 Kanye produced 5 albums, that came out in 5 consecutive weeks. They all have only 7 songs
I'm firmly, FIRMLY in the camp that Kanye has yet to release a 'bad' album. Yes, JIK included. No bad albums. I can see why anyone would say ANY of his albums are their favourite.
@@calebjames5228 Same, I think if JIK had some of the throwaways instead of reworked songs that were intended for yhandi it would've been received better. If up from the ashes, wake the dead, LA monster and glory were on it I think the direction would've been more clear imo. I still like JIK though
JIK was mediocre and rushed. Ye is beautiful. People hate Ye because it isn’t as grand or melodramatic as albums like MBDTF. There’s Beauty in subtlety
For I Thought About Killing You, notice he repeats the opening “the most beautiful thoughts are always beside the darkest” three times. First time silence follows. Second time musical humming starts. Third time there’s more auto tune and synth. The start of a song maybe? And then we get that last stretch where the thoughts get even darker, the voice gets lower, then the song finally transitions to music. So you literally witness the dark thoughts lead to the beauty of music. And the album follows that structure. 3 dark songs. Pivot point. Then three reflective songs where beauty emerges from darkness. Growth has occurred.
miss yall Kanye content so much! Wish yall didn’t delete all your material over the years off your youtube page but I understand why you did what y’all did. Just wish I could go back and watch your analysis all over again.
ye is probably his most underrated album that isn't 808s, what a perfect tracklist. the split between Kanye talking about his issues with his meds and shit and him talking about his family is dope.
808s isnt overrated.. it’s (deservedly) one of the most mentioned albums in hop hop when talking modern masterpieces or influence. Ye is def underrated
@@WavyMrRager i consistently see 808s ranked near the bottom of most hh/Kanye tierlists personally, but yeah definitely one of the most influential albums in the genre.
@@zolris5498 rank low =/= underrated yknow, kinda like ye. ye isnt bad at all like kanye makes a lot of good albums but ye is just not as good as the others.
sad that mainstream still pushes away mental health issues, its one of the reason this never hit off. I enjoyed it deeply though knowing what kanye went through especially
@@tysonjankowiak Mental health is all over the place wtf you talking about ? This is just not part of their victim parade. That's why the mainstream didn't really paid attention to it.
@@xXEliminatorXx99 i meant it in the sense if, most people in the world still label Kanye as “crazy” etc. if this album was more listened too they would hear him open up about it. Thats what u mean :)))
i am serious when i say that Kanye should invite you when he is working on his new album. You sometimes create counter melodies while reacting to his songs that are amazing.
Time stamps since no one else is 1:24 I thought about killing you 5:55 Yikes 9:01 All mine 11:53 Wouldn’t leave 15:16 No mistakes 17:17 Ghost town 21:45 Violent crimes
Mercurial, Ye is allowed to be your favorite album. It's deeper than just chords and high bass, it's the gateway for those with mental health who also relate to Kanye's darkness as an artist. It's definitely a top five for me. Thanks for listening to it!
This album is so good in hindsight. So short and not a moment & sound wasted. The first two tracks are insane. Listening those 2 specifics songs for the first time is something else.
Btw when it comes to your favorite Kanye album, real Kanye fans know there's no wrong answer. They're all beautiful in their own unique ways, that's part of the experience!
@@anushgopalakrishnan even with that album there is a lot to dissect and appreciate. people just overlook it due to when, where and how it was dropped.
I guess every Kanye Album can be somebodies favorite and since this one is just a more precise blow to the feels its my favorite Kanye album from time to time too, just today I kinda got my heart crushed and this was just a delight to work through it a little without feeling alone and I wanted to thank you for that and your content in general, although I have to admit, I've only watched your Kanye videos +2 others, but Igor is on my list next since im struggling to appreciate it in a lot of places and you translate the vibe of songs with your additions pretty well and showing off angles of appreciation I hadn't considered yet
Ye was highly scrutinized but like every one of Kanyes albums this has aged so well and almost seems more relatable now than then. Also its got some of Kanyes most mellow tracks.
yea, you’re right. this should be more recognized and universally considered one of (if not) the best of his albums. it’s got everything you want that makes kanye west such a fascinating artist, musically, and personally with none of the fat and maximalism that usually takes the spotlight away. late reg and ye are pretty neck and neck for my favourite of his fsfs
Yeh people need to get the idea albums need to be focused and have message or common theme throughout. I enjoy MBDTF but I think it's overrated as part Kanyes albums and ppl underrated many of his other albums because of it
You're right about Ghosts Town being like Kids See Ghosts, they released a week between each other (ye coming first), and Ghost Town parts 1 and 2 really connect the albums together :)
A QUESTION FOR THE MERCURIAL NUMBER 6: Having listened to a lot of Kanye’s discography, seeing how his music has evolved & he has constantly pushed the envelope with his creative ideas without fear. How would you Rank him compared to your favourite artists? Would you give him GOAT status like we do in the hip hop community or is it just completely different?
In my opinion Kanye surpasses the GOAT status in hip hop and transcends to one of the GOATS as a musician. Most people who shit on Kanye probably know him for his public antics and likely never listened to his whole discography. He consistently drops highly rated albums while constantly rebuilding himself. No two albums are similar.
Mr Mercurial Number Six please listen to 808s and Heartbreak for us, we’d all love to watch you experience it. 808s is my favorite Kanye album and it is the main Kanye album that influenced Travis Scott who i know you also enjoy his music. Also this is the album Kanye made after his mother tragically passed away and his fiancé of 8 years broke up with him leaving him in despair and depression. This is Kanye’s most sad album and the album that revolutionized the use of autotune in the mainstream of rappers nowadays like Travis Scott. The drums as you would expect are also crazy on this album, Kanye wanted to give them an almost Phil Collins like sound by adding reverb and distorting the 808s because he wanted them to still HIT but at the same time sound dull & lifeless. All and all i can’t wait for this reaction from you and i think you’ll enjoy the production as well as Kanye’s melodies and song making capability. (Also this album is directly after Kanye lost his mom (DONDA), while as the album DONDA is most likely him fully coming to terms with her being gone and him being much more religious. (Kanye’s said multiple times before that his Mom was his favorite person in the world) So you can really hear the pain in this record.
The "drive" chorus you dropped had me dying laughing, not only because it was unexpected but because it fits freaking perfectly. The synths are very similar.
its been incredible seeing the progression of these music experiences youve shared with us over the past couple years. i can tell from the quality of your content that you genuinely enjoy the music these artists put out and not only reviewing them because the music is popular whether or not ive listened to an album your musical experiences are always a priority for me to watch so thank you so much Also: it makes me smile every time you recognise a feature or reference of another artist. i recognised the lyrics from ghost town but i couldnt remember from where but you immediately knew it was from kids see ghosts haha
Side 2 of this album is one of the my favourite things in music, so when you asked if we were going to join you for it, I stopped the video, went to make a coffee and here I'm. What I love the most about watching your reactions is that, in a weird way, feels like experiencing it for the first time again through you. This album helped me through a hard time when it came out and now I can tell some hard times come ahead, so this feels like an extra push to keep going. Thank you for this and never stop making them.
I cant believe I didn’t like this when I first heard it. This album aged incredibly! Honestly one of favorite Kanye projects as well, I don’t dislike a single song tbh
Sometimes I wish Kanye would randomly come across The Mercurial Number Six and sign him, the dude brings such impulsiveness and raw/out of nowhere sounds and energy... He would make an incredible editor, something Ye lacked on Donda
2018 was the best year of music I’ve ever lived through and honestly this might be my favorite Kanye album too, everytime I play it I am transported back to that summer. Amazing vibes
This one is a personal favorite and helped me through my spiritual transformation in college. Very under appreciated album! Hope you experience graduation!
Now after all the new Kanye you really need to go back to some older Kanye for the incredible comparison between his different eras. I recommend Graduation. It’s when he realized that he can take his sound further while still keeping the soul of his original production style
Just imagine discovering kanye for the first time again and discovering all the albums....I get that feeling listening to his albums over and over but there's something special about listening to a kanye album for the first time... I still remember the first time I heard ye
This is why I love M#6 - I used to love this album but it was a little too short. Kanye released it amongst a few other albums in a short space of time, including Kids See Ghosts, hence they were all shortened. Always thought it was heavily slept on, and this video confirms it for me. Having not listened in a while, you’ve renewed my joy for it. Thank you!
Ye is such a dope project, I just wish there were like three more songs to make it feel more complete, but having it as your favorite is dope af, it's a good pick for sure
As cheesy, corny and dirty it is, it’s also so damn heavy hitting raunchy yet so fucking clever and definitely one of the heaviest bar that I would describe Kanye as. I love it 🤣 everytime this bar comes up I always make that mean face lmaoooo
One of your best reaction. You just love music and it's awesome. Ye is a great album, underrated af with no reason and yep you should consider it as a pt.1 of KSG. Much love.
It's reasonable for this to be your fav album, the production and vocals are the best of the best if your picking an album for that. Every song hits on this album
I really dig wat you said at the end about the limiting factor! The indecision surrounding the creative process is a pain because of all the possibilities. We should all just make stuff, put it out in the world and move on! ✌😁
This album follows Ye's mental health cycle. 1) I thought...- It starts with just a voice in the back of his mind that gets louder and scarier 2) Yikes- Is the manic episode 3) All mines- His well documented sex addiction tied to his episodes 4) Wouldn't leave- Is the fall out 5) No mistakes- Intial relief that Kim stood by him 6) Ghost Town- Hopefulness for the future 7) Violent Crimes- Envisioning his future but being apprehensive that his mistakes will catch up.
Great seeing you react to this. Personally one of the Kanye albums that spoke to me the most, also seeing the Pelican and Hot penguin back was amazing! Would be cool to see you explore some of the albums made by Injury Reserve
