@@RyanX1899 actually I could say Christina did more. Its not the one who punches a lot but who strikes. Christina dodged a lot and when she found a chance she striked. Let's go with ur logic. She did more punches even when Fabiola was covering, she was hitting her. Fabiola the only thing she could do is to cover , to dodge some of the punches and a really good throw.

Karate Combat is really awesome. I love watching it. I could be new to Karate Combat scoring system as I am more into MMA. I watched several fights and the judges scoring fights sometimes does not look correct at all. In this fight, it is clear that the Mexican figter dominated the third round especially if we consider a point being deducted from the lady from Greece. This should not be a Unanimous Decision. It could a split decision win or a draw. I am not Mexican or Greece. I would appreciate it if someone share his insight on the scoring system in Karate Combat. Thank you

It is in many karate styles from Goju-ryu to Kyokushin. No idea why they don't allow it

I agree I think that's pretty dumb that's the ONE thing that I don't really like about karate combat fighting, especially since I practice kyokushin but aside from that I think the rest of the rules are pretty good.

@HelloHow UDoing I never said they was good😂 it just at least have leg kicks and also its not like you can punch them in the back of the head. I feel like If you get kicked in the back of the head while you're only allowed to stand and fight it's kinda your fault I feel tbh.

Ouchen had superior conditioning and was in general the most aggressive fighter of the two and I believe we all liked the respect he showed to his opponent in the end!

I have both studied their techniques and style. I think that this will be a really interesting fight for both females cause they are both really good. In my opinion, I think Christina Kavakopoulou will win. Its because she is fast and strong but Esqueviel (sorry for pronunciation) has heavier punches and kicks. So..... with Greece's speed i think they will win...

Being a fan of boxing, muay thai, and UFC, this is gonna take a little get use to. Because when you have an eye for combat sports , you almost always see openings and opportunities. However THIS has certain restrictions that throws me off a little. And the crowds are NOT fans. They're just models that make noise.

What is with the commentators with the third round of the women's bout. The Mexican girl came out throwing kicking combos, none of which landed. Not even close. And they were saying she should get the round because of this. The only real shots to land in the third round was the greek girls.

Man the commentators are there to add to the spectacle and from their perspective you don't want to present a fighter as a weaker opponent. What shocks me the most though is those imbeciles here in the comments that say Esquivel won albeit she was almost knocked out in the end of round 3.And if we want to talk about illegal punches - Esquivel too hit Christina in the back of the head but no point was deducted from her. The way I see it is that Christina was judged more harshly and despite that she won the much undisputedly.

really??? let the girls clinch, they were being active! dirty boxing? like that isnt 90% of what kata actually is? every Hikite... its so textbook karate, but in such a good way... please work on the rules if youre gonna advertise this as Karate guys! :)

It's a limited clinch. Like for throws or in the pocket. I've seen some clinches where the ref let I go cuz they were active. They just dont want a thai like clinch or like how bare knuckle boxing has the one hand clinch. They're trying to keep it away from that. I do think other rules should be modified though.

@@leavemealoneyouprick Most kata stuff is generally civil self defense though. The typical one-handed-clinch dirty boxing she did in this fight for example is in the Goju Ryu Kata Saifa. As far as sports competition goes, I guess you need to draw the line somewhere. They're aiming for a certain look in this promotion and also want to distinguish themselves from other combat sports. I get that. However, in terms of clinching I would go for a different approach: allow clinching (one and both hands), but limit the time, just like they do with the ground.

So AGREE !! I ran this by a couple of dan grades (3rd and 4th dan) last night and their response? "Don't see the problem. It's a winning technique. It is either full contact Karate......... or it isn't." Yup - Hikite is the science of holding the opponent in place while you pound on them. Let it run. Safety first - yes. But there's nothing unsafe about holding the head in position to hit it. That's just a Tuesday night in our dojo.

I mean honestly, the fact that Christina won is ridiculous. She should've been awarded more point deductions for all that dirty fighting since it completely ruins the integrity of the rules they are aiming for. Also, you could see a lot of her seeming "big moments" were later shown in replays as actually very narrow misses, so hard to judge. Either way, I find a unanimous 29-27 to be a complete robbery. I'm hesitant to watch more of this with judges like these tbh.

yeah, I'm no real expert on this but even I can tell that this was a stupid decision. especially the rapid punches from the clinch that didn't get stopped properly until the second round. this thing is a joke.

@@johannlindstrom5948 Well for the brawling part you are most definitely correct and also for the third round i think esquivel was the aggressor but albeit her impressive moves she failed to connect with the majority of them and thus kavakopoulou earned more points.Karate-wise, esquivel was the most impressive fighter. We also have to take into consideration that esquivel almost got knocked out in the third round.

I thought Esquivel missed a trick there. As the taller opponent her high and kicks kept Christina at bay but she let Esquivel in range for punches. Also looks like she gassed out earlier in the final round.
