To be honest the reach of the Spear is really an advantage. But will this be really an issue if we're talking real combat type arnis and Han Mu Do? Not really. Arnis or Eskrima or Kali whichever you prefer to call it is more complex in the fact that one of the important things that they actually recognize is that the technical nature of combat changes drastically as the distance between. To control the range, and for numerous other purposes, good footwork is essential. The style of footwork and the standing position vary greatly from school and from the practitioner. Traditionally, the consciousness of the battlefield is an absolute necessity, stances are usually very low, and footwork is complex, involving many careful cross-steps to allow practitioners to cope with multiple opponents - in any range. Systems that have been adapted to sporting matches generally employ simpler footwork compared to actual ones used in let's say military purposes, much like we see in this video. Also, the fact that the one practicing the Arnis has another disadvantage on this Vid. He cannot use everything that Arnis/Eskrima teaches - Which is actually Open hand or full takedown. If both restrictions for both Martial Arts are lifted, the Arnis Practitioner would just be using 1 stick and an open hand or "Live Hand". The kick being done to him, the range, and poking will not be much too much of an issue since the number one thing the practitioner will do is to disarm the spear user, something not easy to do, but is possible since as I've mentioned above, Arnis is designed to cope with multiple opponents and Ranges - Which includes Weapons. Lastly, Han Mu Do is similar to Arnis, Han Mu Do incorporates various forms of Korean martial arts. Arnis/Eskrima/Kali on the other hand, if unrestricted incorporates numerous martial arts from ancient times from different countries and is actual battle field-tested and is continuously evolving. Hence when its used in sports it gets toned down a lot - like most martial arts these days. Hence, MMA is kicking the ass of most of these so called "Ancient Martial Arts" since the need to kill anyone is gone.
The kind of cuts from the spear will not kill the person right away unless he gets the heart in one stab,I know this because I was born and raise in a place called tondo Manila, which is the biggest slum in the Philippines where there are a lot of fights with knives and jungle bolo,my uncle lost his arm in one of those fights, because he was able to get in close and all it took was one blow to the head, although he lost his arm fighting a person with a machete or bolo,he lived ,the other guy
@@erushi5503 Igorots? Dual wielding spears? I'm not sure if your Igorots is the same as the Igorots that I know. They're known for their barbed spear and weird but effective axe.
Spears are a pain in the ass to fight. The arnis fighter in the video admitted in a previous video he was new to arnis and is trying to do his best which I respect. I've seen a lot of their videos. They get more experienced arnis guys in some other videos.
The escrimador/ Kali/arnis fighter should've use long stick also.. arnis/Kali fighting is not limited to sticks, they also use knives, swords, spears..
Just want to say though... when you have two sticks, you need to use one as deffense and the other one as offense, depends on the weapons used by opponents. So in my conclusion, this guy with two sticks are not actually an arnis practitioner 🤔(maybe).
In eskrima there is also a weapon of "SIBAT" old masters in the Phils. are proficient in this kind of weaponry. What if the ARNIS uses the siete (7) pares or single stick and on the left is a shield. That way i think will change the game a bit..
In theory the long stick wins, Arnis is very strong on close quarter combat at close range the long stick loses or unusable, in this scenario Filipino warrior would have used a shield and a spear like I mentioned on Escrima VS. Kendo video, but as a last resort double sword Arnis is still very strong, Elite warriors are capable of dodging projectile or swiping them out in the air like throwing knives, arrows and spear they would have just swipe or block away the spear out of the way for the kill or just catch and hold the strike of the spear with a bare hand, or throw a sword or a dagger at the opponent, it's not easy to deal with a projectile with a long spear specially if your a big slow moving man can't move fast enough, Giants tend to be an easy kill in the battlefield Speed Kills not the other way around in films you can literally stone them to death at the right distance like the David & Goliath story, the key thing to this hand weapons is the Speed and the Skills very little on the strength, so the fastest reflex survive and win if it make sense at all. 😎👌✌.
New subscriber here! Love your ending point and that's would how a real eskrima/kali/arnis attack. Once the bamboo curls upwards, just grab it in the middle and bam! straight in the middle to his vital points.
IMO regardless of what martial arts represented, it is a good approach to foster growth and improvement on the martial arts. It is a chance to evaluate techniques in a more practical use. It could be more interesting though if they would bring it a step further if they do it LARP-ing so they could also display different battle formations and strategies. Part of the practical use of martial arts is also using the environment/terrain as part of the technique.
I was entertained by your video. This is the first time I heard and seen Hanmudo. You called out correctly the long reach advantage of the Hanmudo spear over the shorter sticks is definitely visible. Thank you for posting this video.
are spear used in hanmudo bend that much? im really curious.. if u ask me.. the sole reason why the arnis guy is getting hit its because of how much the spear bents.. cut doesnt kill ppl.. but hits from arnis specially in head are nasty.. arnis guy is not committed on his attacks.. i know its just a sparing/mock battle.. but i highly doubt you'll see arnis users this hesitant in battle.. he already went in few times with just one (non-fatal) slash but he keeps stopping/backing out.. why would you do that.. tbh sidenote: i got hit hard by metal pipe in chest (so hard to breath) and i still manage to beat the guy that is holding it.. bare arms.. sometimes commitment (to attack) works out
Take note: In Arnis, rattan sticks are only replacement for actual weapons which are mainly ginuntings (2 long swords) and scariest thing is if the Korean spear misses the attack, the fight is done.
Kadena first strike is a block and 2nd strike to hit the hand holding the spear. Palis first strike go with the force of your opponent and 2nd strike hit your opponents hand and then combination abaniko, doblada, banda y banda, sungkiti, puno, or combination. As long as your opponent uses long weapon you to find a way to get close and find your range of attack.
@@DenMonitor I dont think longer sticks would work either. Might do a bit better than what the guy used in the video but it wouldnt really be that all effective If the kali fighter used a sibat then the fight would've been even. But that's just my basic knowledge on weapon-based martial arts
I just saw this ... its really Good reaction ...and also if I'm the person using the arnis against the person using a spear I would rather use the other blade as a shield and use the other blade to attack I would also use my feet to capture the spear and make sure that person lose his weapon and also Let the Spear guy make the 1st attack so that I can get close to him and make sure to hit him while his guard is much lower .... just my own take in this .... love your reaction btw really nice
This is an interesting exercise. But this does not actually accurately represents Arnis. Still a lot of people think that Arnis is stick fighting only, and don't realize that practicing with sticks is just substitute to using blades or swords. One of the very important principles of FMA is this "Always come to a battle at advantage. Never come to a battle at a disadvantage." Clearly, in this exercise the stick weilding person was at a very big disadvantage. The sticks weilding guy is up against a weapon with superior reach and has a blade at the end of it. A true Arnis master would be coming into battle with swords, shield or even guns and bombs. That's how tribal wars were fought back in the day...
If they are really using real swords and spears, the spear guy is long gone dead. The arnis practitioner simply just block and cut or break the stick. That technique is called defanging the snake. That's why most swords in the Philippines are with curve-end or with a proper hilt to lessen the chance of disarm and not just about slipping. Also if the fight happens in a thick forest or grassland, no chance for the spear fighter of winning. The spears used by Filipino warriors was intended for throwing and rarely for thrusting or stabbing as damage and accuracy is lesser at short distance. The arnis player here seems inexperienced.
The true arnis before replaced by stick was filipino sword like kris, bolo, or kampilan... it is only replaced by stick because by that time Spanish prohibited filipinos to carry such weapons. True.... if its real sword the long stick already torn apart.
@@pwat6311 lmao, well have you ever use blades haha, blades even sharp wount cut a sticks that is moving and light it can cut only in full force, base on my experience
In practical fight you must grap the long spear while attacking in close fight. So he cannot move the spare freely if you always fucos on his weapon to grab and attack at the same time.
Pikes and Spears are heavily favored during the olden days simply because it is very effective even in the hands of amateurs, even more so for experts. Not only that but they also save money because it has very short blade and most of it is wooden compared to swords where the entire length is metal. Spears are simply the most effective weapon ever made in an open field combat scenario.
Medieval foot soldiers in medieval europe and feudal japan (ashigaru) which were recruited from farmers and peasants and trained and drilled in basic fighting techniques and battle formation can actually best any professional warrior like the knight and samurai albeit in mass, but there are also instances where they defeated professional warriors in one on one combat. Greetings amigo!😁🍹
So much hate for the arnis guy from the comments. For all we know the arnis guy just want to try using a "blade" against a spear. Anyways liking your content @Shin Smith, hope to see more in the future.
the arnis guys must fake to catch the spear first before attacking the spear wielder, catch the stick and hit it twice before hitting the opponent. INSIDE FIGHTHING. that is GRAB THE BRACHES THEN POKE THE TRUNK. In real fighting I will use only one stick, use it as a shield, parry the spear, grab the spear once it touches my stick with my bare empty other hand, and while grabbing the spear I will hit with my stick that part of the spear nearest to my opponent before hitting my opponent himself.
this is good. i think they make a tounament out with this. putting every challenger with a desired babmboo weapon. it really tells their battle iq, and tactics
Its not a match. Hanmudo is bladed. Arnis guy should have been using two ginunting blade... And if arnis guy uses the ginuting automatically he shall cut the long blade to pieces. Now if its a long stick only without blade... Its a different story... Arnis guy should be in the defensive then counter attacks every time the long stick attacks.
There is not a single martial art without disadvantages and range of fighting. Though keep in mind that what is most useful in our days, where we can't carry a long spear or have one. A long spear belongs to 600 years ago and that was outmaneuvered by strong swords, that could cut it in peaces in matter of seconds. Kali, Arnis & FMA are on other hand more adaptable to modern world
You can easily break the wooden spear with those Arni's sticks if you need to... It can easily break bones and skull... The Arni's player here just doesn't know how to combat against long range weapon...
I've seen old photos of Filipinos spearmen warrior during american occupation. Just that its not as popular with those using blades or sticks of kali. and I've seen no records of their martial art skill using their spears.
This is funny 😄 for an actual kill fight it will only take more cuts but without a doubt arnis can take down it's enemy in an instant. That is called ' give and take '. Why not try the spears vs spears battle instead 🤭🤭🤭
Why the arnis guy didnt use long stick... arnis also use long stick for mid range.... it is so unfair to use the popular 1 handed short stick or conventional close range fighting...😭😭😭
That arnis guy does not know how to Attack on Long Range. In arnis you must let the that guy lost his spear. You need to disable the enemy's weapon. One thing you can do is hold the spear and use it against the enemy. Also that guy only focus himself by hitting the head. so bad.. he should first hit the enemy's hand.
in an open area and long range fighting arnis will be really in his disadvantage however if the fight would be in forest area or slum area arnis is in great advantage each weapon has its pros ang cons
thats too bad spears has advantage, but in real combat, the arnis is replaced by some kukri or any other kind of bladed weapon, the spear will gradually loose its range advantage, because the spear will become a stick if choped in the middle.
Is the one who fighting an Arnis style really a master or a Filipino cause I felt that the one who caring the spear is a master and that's quite unfair
You might want to react on this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qrlfkUszG1Y.html - how kali fights in long range. And kali have it's own spear mode ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fXjwAUvSC7o.html
Nah this is not arnis haha, the reaction to defend and counter attack is good at the beginning but in the late match he became blood thirsty to score hit. He forgot the sole purpose of Kali self defense/counter attack.
If the sitautuon is about sports. They can win instant. But if the sitaution is about to execute or intention to kill your oponents? No doubde about arnis or kali techniques, you were instantly dead of the art of killing. Art of tichnique or art of killing is defferent..
In reality combat just avoid the stabbing of spear ..but once the the arnis or 2 swords man are nearly to the spear man surely his body is totally damaged ... But that situation the points is based.on,, just a first heat, not based on the damage of the body in reality?
That arnis guy is not a master, it is just an amateur because he dont know the offensive counter offensive style. He didnt even know how to dismantle a spear
This is silly and unrealistic. Also biased as it’s a Korean video, so who do you think will look good? Not to mention the Arnis fighter may be good with sticks but his approach isn’t so great. Lastly in real world even if the arnis fighter does get hit, the one with the spear will lose once that distance is closed.
