The Olympics is responsible for completely ruining Karate. Can't say the same for Judo, boxing and TKD, but Karate... point system, hooray for points. pfffft
It's nothing to do with Karate nor Taekwondo... the Japanese fighter needs to learn about distance (hand & leg range) and how to break into or get out of such distance. Better yet just go read the greatest martial art books of all time, the Bruce Lee Fighting Methods, all 4 volumes before commenting. It explained everything over 50 years ago.
@@evansusmc In a real fight, Yuki probably wins every time. Unfortunately, this is silly points-based comp, so yea, Li had better "point" landings. I find these kinds of tournaments kind of silly. MMA is just so much more realistic.

I met a 6 Dan Shotokan Karate teacher and he would visit the country and grade the students and take class. It was about 42 years ago I asked him to sum up Karate. He said Technique, Focus and Control. I understand that the different areas like Okinawa and mainland Japan are varied in Kumite style and it is a deep stance as opposed to a higher body stance I understand that you do not know how good your style is, is when you kumite against another style. The rest is who can pinpoint the other's defense and then counter attack. a bit of advice. To all girls and women out there. Never carry anything like a purse or bag in your dominant hand. Because if attacked you need your dominant hand to defend and counter attack. To lay that person out.
It would be better to change the rules of competitions where we have to check every time a move is performed. It's hard to understand and frustrating to watch.
That would mean going back to the original kumite rules of karate-do..... Oh how horrifying it would be to a bunch of kids that have never gotten seriously punch in the face!
@@tatumergo3931 It's a contest /or tournament for not the chicken at heart. If you think you are good then proof it. Remember the American's best Hollywood Stuntman Bruce Lee? Bruce maybe good in movie & shadow fighting. He never fought anyone in the ring or tournaments. He weighted less than 142 lbs, there is simply no way he will be able to beat anyone over 195 lbs. w/same skills Why do you think all fighting tournaments have weight divisions? So a cottonweight fighter simply can not beat a heavyweight fighter.
@@tatumergo3931kyokushin, where kumite has degraded to close quarter jabbing no higher than chest level. It has become boxing without punches to the head.
I don't have karate training but one day when my bully sister attacked me, she hit my head and my face hit the computer keyboard. Then I got up and faced her, then she tried to attacked me again, just once I hit her eyes, she gone blind and asked for help. I almost killed her by that. Then since then, I realized that I am a different type of enimy. Even my dad can't stop me. The second time my sister bullied me, I almost killed her and my dad hit my back to stop me and it was hurt then I faced him and pushed him and I really don't know how I throw my dad in the wall😢.He panicked and run and asked for help. He was shouting and saying that he was seing a demon on my face. I really don't know what is this condition but whenever I get mad. I can't feel pain and I can easily lift things. I have a lot of story about my life and it's really strange to see how small I am on that strength. It's weir but I just noticed that when I got really mad, I don't feel pain and even how big the person I have fight with, I can easily knock him or her down. I don't really know what type of condition is this. But even though I have this strange strength, I am a quite and a happy type of person, I am very kind and because of my kindness, people think I am dumb until they bully me.

@thomassegrue8783 LOL. I've heard this kind of "big talk" in comments section all the time. Just make yourself worthy to participate in an official competition such as this, and show to us what it ought to be performed, before spouting bovine excrement from your mouth. That will then be a respectable and credible assertion. 😂
Yes, we love kyokushin, until we face a Muay Thai man or a boxer and he breaks our face, since we are used to hitting the chest, the stomach with our fists, 20 years of practice make our guard lower, and the only way we win is with kyokushin rules, which unfortunately do not apply on the street, since your opponent instinctively points at your face, and we, due to training, have a glass face... But it doesn't matter, We love kyokushin (as long as they don't touch our beloved face)
@@antoniolopez6798 and then they face a man with a gun. Whats your point copy pasting your comment everywhere 😅. Karate is fun if you have your freedoms and don't have to do a break after the initial hit. That's dumb.

@@YCHTT actually this ‘fight’ is nothing to do with distance or any other rubbish, you can only fight how you train. These little ‘touch’ fighters would get wiped out by any street wise thug and if either of them threw a ‘touch point’ hit and then wondered why they found themselves on their asses they’d only have to look at how they trained. Old school karate doesn’t have competions, they have basics, kata and bunkai. If your looking for karate that does have proper fighting competions then look at Ashihara karate or Kudo.
@@jujitusuka All fights have to do with the element of distance or you can't hit your opponent or getting hit/grab by him/her. That's why it is so important to understand that and when a fighter master it with footwork, timing and feints, he will be close to unbeatable. It's 100% true a fighter fights how he trains but how he trains mainly determined by the rules of the sport. And if you are comparing this to a real fight situation, I don't know what to tell it. This is a "SPORT" and not a real fight. Even UFC isn't real fight, there are many things you can't do in UFC which in real fight situation would become deadly against UFC fighters.
It has been the rule with those sport (both Karate & Taekwondo) for a long time way before UFC that started in the 90s. Maybe you should learn more before commenting.

What do you mean? CHN girl got kicked in the arse at one point. LoL she was like "Owwww" rubbing her butt after the JPN player scored 😂 Edit. Nevermind. It was no score..she got a warning instead.
@@YCHTT it still remains strange so his point is clear. More freedom , more excitement in martial arts. Tournaments really want to un-martial art these sports.
It may be that from the beginning and perhaps for years a karateka has dreamed of becoming a martial arts expert, I have done that too, but all he gets is as a sportsman, and that may not be realized by many people and can even happen over a period of decades. For decades there has been this doctrine in a country.
I'm sorry BUT this is NOT Karate ... The two girls are excellent athletes, let's be clear BUT martial art is something else! Unfortunately, the sporting drift has led to this... fortunately there are still schools that spread Karate as a martial art and I hope they continue!
@@ngadiminsim3244 As i told , the two girls are fantastic athletes and modern methods of training allowed people to improve a lot, from the athletic point of view, compared to to the average practitioners of the past. This is certainly GOOD : combining the modern methodologies with TRADITION is the best way in my opinion. But the fact remains : Karate IS NOT a sport but a MARTIAL ART : unfortunately today the "sporting drift" makes people forget the original spirit of martial discipline. I was never interested in competitions : perhaps i was wrong, taking part in some competitions can certainly be an educational experience but we must never forget what Karate was born for: competitiveness must only be a secondary aspect, never the main one!
I practice Taiji Quan and it kills me when I watch Olympic athletes compete in "Tai Chi" tournaments. What they are doing is not Tai Chi, but a form of radicalized, stylized ballet/gymastics that reward jumping and then balancing. That's almost the opposite of what Tai Chi is about. I can only assume that the winners of these Tai Chi tournaments are really skillful practioners of actual, real Tai Chi. But they do this "competition Tai Chi" that is required in tournaments because that's what the judges value.
Fencing is so stupid. First and last time I watched it was the Olympics some years back. Kendo got just as silly, unfortunately. It's not even about the actual art of the style anymore, it's just whoever is faster at poking/hitting for a point. Flash game instead of skill game. Which is maybe how it'd go down IRL, I dunno. But it just seems so boring to watch.
@@jasonfrost5025 . No you are actually right about your assumptions. In Real Life is about survival, more so if a weapon that can cause serious damage or injury is involved. Against a sword or blade you could lose your life in a matter of seconds, a cut to the neck, groin or arms take but a few seconds to bleed out from it. In real life and death combat you don't struggle as much to kill your opponent as you struggle more to not let your opponent kill you. If the fastest way to do this is by quickly killing them, then you do so! But your main goal is always going to be, to survive and not get kill. P. S. In HEMA and Koryu Ryuha systems, this is highly emphasize. For every attack you commit, you must be ready to quickly defend against a counter. Even a dying man can still give you a final blow that might kill you!
Well, to be fair, this is not bullshito. It's just a very stylized form of Kumite Karate, which doesn't resemble the kind that your grandfather might have learned. But this is a specific form of competition that has been evolved for Olympic competition. It is not meant to be martial arts. This is more like..fencing. Judging by the speed of these girls, I suspect that if they were in a real fight with you, they would kick your ass, and mine. Those lightning kicks are being used to score points. But it would shock me if they couldn't easily turn them into power kicks that would knock your head off your shoulders before you even realized they had kicked. I am Chinese, and we have more bullshito masters than any other country, guys who have 200 students but couldn't beat an old drunk in an alley.
We in Asean always Admire and Respect Japanese Contestants. They Play and Fight With Intensity and Fairness. They do not Cheat nor are they Sour Grapes. Well Done!
For those who comment that it's Karate vs Taekwan Do - FYI Taekwon Do - is an extension of Karate (Shotokan). General Choi studied under Sensei Funakoshi.
Can this be any more boring. Two people bouncing for 5 minutes with 2 section of action. What a waste of time. What’s all those years of training for?!
Yeah. Not sure why the first point took so long to determine. They quickly spotted the contact and took time to talk about it? Find the shot, determine the value, and get back to action. The contestants do not want that wait.
Karate and all martial arts, at their hearts, are about defense. In the Olympics the goal is to win which requires aggression. In a real fight, you wait for an attack which will likely be clumsy and easily repelled and countered. These fighters are not clumsy.
@BenjaminGessel - LOL!!! As a trained competition fighter from a variety of disciplines. Believe me when I tell you that either one of these women would wipe the floor with your sister. It's like saying you could beat an NBA player one on one. Totally delusional!!!!!!
Sad that Karate won't be in '24 Olympics. Would've enjoyed wanting Gong Li competing and winning. Amazing energy yet poised & stays in good position. Next int'l competition is Budapest 2025. Can't wait to see.
