When I was 18 I had graded to 1st Kyu. Kizami Zuki was always my favourite technique in sparing. Anyway the fighting combinations in the style I learn is heavy on using this technique. So a guy in a Night Club one evening much older than me started a fight and I was able to knock him out cold with this single technique. Suffice to say I didn't get bothered again. My secret is I would always remain very relaxed and then spring fwd off my front foot, using my back leg to propel me fwd with my head straight, I keep my front arm low and only lift up and lock in position when I hit the target. Only then do you tense up and push. You have to be quick because this technique leaves your face exposed, but its more of a beat the guy to the punch technique.

I like the way the man in the blue gloves explained it. My style calls it independent motion or weapon first and has been doing it that way since the 1970s, We also use it for the reverse punch and other techniques.

the reason why: using kizami tsuki is easier than gyaku tsuki + attacks on the face are always unexpected + the hand you are using for kizami tsuki is the closest to your opponent

“No motion” is similar, but not exactly the same as “no telegraphing”. No “telegraphing” means don’t make any unnecessary moves before your attack. For example, don’t start your attack by turning your front foot. That is a telegraph, alerting your opponent that you are going to attack. In reality, when you turn your front foot that IS the beginning of your attack and, if someone liked Irimi (as I do) they can counter before your punch or kick actually begins or at least before your attack is effective. In my opinion, if you can move your body straight in toward your opponent without any telegraph your closing Ma is quite difficult for your opponent to perceive. Think of standing on a railroad track with a train in the distance. Is it moving toward you or not? It takes a while to decide if it is moving forward, back or not at all. If, however, you are the same distance away with the train on a track perpendicular to you, it is very easy to see if it is moving to the left, right or not at all. When I judge Kyu tests, I usually spend most of my time looking at their feet to see how badly they telegraph their movements. Another good video!

The reason why his puch was as effective as it was is because he screamed at the point of contact, dropped his arms in spastic celebration to get the Judge's attention while his opponent caught him with a more effective counter punch, though because of the contact level neither was actually a punch per say but more like a LARP attack... which explains the rule set they were competing with.
@paultaylor6774
@paultaylor6774 2 года назад
Fair point, but that’s what this sport is all about. The speed of the punch and their ability to hop in and out of range so quickly is still impressive though, and I’m sure it could be incorporated into other combat sports with success.
