At the beginning of the video I say that I'm not an expert on Muay Thai and that these are simply my observations and ideas. We can always benefit from looking at other arts and taking the ideas we like into our own. If you like this kind of content don't forget to subscribe to keep updated 👍

Great stuff again. Any tips for stretches to improving mae geri jodan? Am struggling to snap it out fully at head height. Is it just about looser hamstrings or are there other stretches that can help?

Can you imagine? "Hey, you can't kick like that. That is my style of kick. You're supposed to kick like this because your sports origin and dress code demands it" 😆

@@mattviney8642do you practice axe 🪓 kicks ? Kakato Geri ? They are a great way to dynamic stretch … if in doubt look up the Korean axe kicks from the inner and outer entries

Love this, would be interesting to see a similar comparison for mawashageri / muai thai round kick

You.see the snap and speed of that front kick. My goodness. This man needs to enter the dragon. I feel like hed kill the opponent first strike. You gonna spend a lifetime developing that kind of power and not make millions of it. Yes self defense but you just gotta know. Karate combat atleast. Tree trunk legs geeze

Snapping Maegeri, quite tricky to use in it's simplicity but an excellent technique when mastered. Definitely gets your opponent to keep their distance if applied well. Would You consider doing the same kind of comparison for the muai tai round kick vs mawashigeri as they are rather different in both application and technique. Arigato gosaimasu!
@jkgardiner
@jkgardiner 7 месяцев назад
Yes possibly, although I use a mawashi geri that is very similar to the muay thai one most of the time.

Great demonstration & explanation as always. In the mechanics of a kick it’s really just an elongated step. If you go to step, or walk do a front kick teep or snap etc it’s a similar mechanic. Great that you high lighted how the kick work. As sometimes we don’t think 🤔 that deeply about what we do, when we kick or punch as we are just used to doing it 🤜🤛

It's funny, am doing Uechi-Ryū and I've learned the so called Muay Thai kick in class for full-contact, I've personally never used the snap kick in full-contact, I've also used the trust kick. In my own personally experience.

Very educational as always i think maegeri off the front or back leg is often neglected it can be compared to a front hand jab or cross straight and direct to the target and fast get caught in the solar plexus with one of these and you are going down.

Both your front kicks are excellent and have power. I only learned the snap version in my Wado training many years ago. We only ever kicked the air in training though - no pad or bag work.

humildemente pienso que las artes marciales que entrenan con contacto tienen ventaja sobre las demas que evitan el contacto por seguridad

Both kicks belong to karate: one is keage and the other is kekomi. However is incorrect to think that the 'pushed' one, kekomi, doesn't create damage as it is easier to transfer more body weight in it than it is in the keage one. Also, with kekomi at 4.27 uke folds slightly only because he is not a Kyokushin karateka😁. Nice technique and video. Thank you for spreading the love for Karate. 🙏 OSU 🥋

As I said in the video both kicks belong to both Karate and Muay thai, but the comparison was with the way muay thai uses the "push kick".

Excellent video. Karate is situational, that's so true and so forgotten! By the way, I would not like to face one of those kicks, it doesn't matter if it is karate or Muay Thai!

I find the karate snap front kick more deadly than the Muay Thai push kick. The snap version stabs the body due to using a smaller surface area, and because of Hakkei, it will blow and vibrate their insides from the impact. Be very careful with Mae geri

However what I’ve discovered as I’m creating something new. I’m analysing all movements everything you can think of Kicks punches forearm, shoulders, elbows, finger basically all usable parts of the body. I’m creating new movements ! As an Australian I decided to create a new Animal Mimicry art based on the strength and movement of our Kangaroos🦘 A type Kungfu that utilises mechanics & principles of movement from Bajiquan & Baguazhang Kungfu also Kenpo & Karate. I also practice hard body tree 🌳 striking conditioning & body striking techniques.
@jkgardiner
@jkgardiner 6 месяцев назад
That sounds interesting. I think we should always be analysing our movements and trying to develop better more efficient or more effective ways. 👍🥋

@@jkgardiner Thanks John, It is definitely a very liberating martial experience into the mechanics of human combative techniques & our movement in general. I wouldn’t be surprised if you create your own personal way, perhaps a hybrid style of Karate 🤜 If your a stickler for tradition that’s great also, Shotokan is an excellent style 🤜🤛 🤜🫷

The reason I'm told to use the snapping technique is to prevent your opponent from grabbing your leg. Isn't that a risk when using the Muay Thai version of the front kick? (and yes, I know that when a kick is delivered with sufficient strength, grabbing it is hard... hard, but not impossible)
@jkgardiner
@jkgardiner 7 месяцев назад
Yes definitely a risk, and the snapping version does help to prevent that
@sportmuaythaiv1045

Lol! you're confused about muaythai push kick aka "teeb". Muaythai does have front kick. It's similar to a hook punch. The knee is slightly bend and locked. The whole leg is swung like a pendulum, with butt thrust for additional power. The target is usually the chin.

I disagree that the Muay Thai version isn't karate. It's a variant depending on circumstances.

Yes I said this in the video, both arts will use both methods but the characteristic front kick of Karate (shotokan at least) is the snap version, not that it doesn't use both.
