Almost all of them are goaltending and some aren't even skyhooks. Bill Walton blocked it from behind at the beginning of the shooting motion and not in the air (there's a big difference). So, if you consider all of these adjustments, this video would last one minutes having Wilt and maybe one or two other players making regular blocks. By far the skyhook is THE MOST UNSTOPPABLE in the history of basketball.

Wilt blocked Kareem's skyhook 5 times in Game 3 of the 1972 ECF in the course of only 12 minutes. Wilt blocked Kareem over 20 times that series. Like a fly swatter. Kareem shot only 46% career vs a bad knee Wilt. Thats lower than vs Hakeem and Sampson. Vs Ewing and so on. Wilt's reverse finger roll and fadeaway I think never were blocked. He was a super fast jumper and could jump very high. By the time you could react he was airborne.

In kareems defense a few of those were uncalled goaltending like at the 42 second mark. No two ways about it though the jabbars skyhook was the most unstoppable move in nba history and it also took impeccable timing, height, reach, jumping ability and a little bit of luck to block it...but I could in fact be done and was done.

I have made the comment, on other videos, that Ralph Samson had done some things that reminded me of Wilt, which few other players have done. His blocks in this video are a couple of examples. Yep, Jabbar might have, "threw a few down", against Wilt, but Wilt had Jabbar ducking for cover on several dunks of his own, at the time of Wilt recovering from knee surgery, and close to the end of his career. Tell the whole story Kareem.

Artis' looked like goal tending, Still impressive. Some of the others looked like they might have been goal tending.

All of the blocks are in the state books as blocks. Not a single one was considered goaltending. Even though it was a rule back then. The refs didn't call goaltending so it went into the stats as a block.

Aside from Wilt blocking Alcindor/Jabbar's hooks, he did something just as remarkable- he made him take really awkward, off-balance shots by body positioning-- without ever getting into serious foul trouble.

Ralph Sampson's block with Kareem shooting the Skyhook left-handedly. Parish got a good block. Olajuwon seemed to get a good one. Wilt's first one was legit; the second one was a left-handed hook (and GOAL TENDING). 38,000+ points and only 4 (👆👆👆👆) legit blocks on the infamous Skyhook. Ha! I like those odds...

I saw Bill Walton walking near Harvard Sq, right after he came to Boston. Walking down Dunster street with his wife and toddler son. Son fell over into the gutter trying to bend down to pick something up. Bill just chuckle.

Some if not most of those shots were heading down, in other words, some were goal tending.

People also forget that Wilt blocking it took place earlier in Kareem's career, before he added anchoring the defender down with his off arm as part of the skygook move

The compilation is indeed more goaltending and blocking running hooks than anything. The beginning, Kareem says Wilt blocked a couple my rookie year...it ends with Bill Russell showing his problem-solving ability, among other things. As he and Wilt were close, no reason he wouldn't lend a bit of perspective to his friend. In retrospect, they were handing the torch to Kareem... Did he not migrate to L.A. where Wilt had just vacated?

Most of these were a goaltend, but seeing as back in the day, it wasn't implemented as a rule back then, it's crazy considering how high they have to jump just to deflect his sky-hook and how late their reactions are as it was unexpected.

The reason Wilt couldn't block the sky hook after a couple of years is because Wilt was on the declining side of his prime. Father time wins EVERY time. When Wilt was in his prime he would've blocked the sky hook on a regular basis.

The reason why most of these were not goaltending was because of the difference in the set of rules back then. 60s and 70s NBA rules allowed offensive interference while defensive interference was counted as goaltending only during times that the ball was laid off the glass and pinned to the backboard, NO MATTER if the ball was going up, at its apex, or headed down. Obviously today backboard blocks are given consideration through the apex rules same with farther shots, while offensive goaltending is not allowed anymore.

Refs then called more shots for Goal Tending than they do now in 3 games . Like Russell said yes you weren't going to stop shot but you make him work harder from farter away . Kareem doing sky hook was 99% of time had an arch of ball going up when it left his hand & it matters not one iota if ball being blocked starts out going up from Jabbar at time shot gets blocked . Only time it is Goal Tending if ball is on a downward spiral at time it is touched & not when a players hand holding ball is above Rim but at time someone touches ball it is going DOWN . All these blocks shown Wilt blocking shot are all good calls cause shot was going up when Wilt touched ball .

I personally saw Wilt slap that thing down a number of times. Wilt was old for a player at the time. Players didn't play till they were 45-50 yrs old then. In 72 Wilt gave Jabbar several good beatings. Credit Jabbar though, he out scored Wilt in almost every game. He didn't out rebound Wilt in any game, and Wilt had more assists and blocks. Wilt was the greatest player to ever tie on sneakers.

About half of those blocks were clear goal tends, as in the ball had passed its arc and was going down. The Sampson and Hakeem and Walton blocks were legit, but the rest of them, sorry, not. Nobody ever said KAJ made every shot, or that his shot was unblockable. What was said and what is still true today is that his skyhook was unstoppable. IMO KAJ is still the greatest overall basketball player that ever played. He led teams to championships and transformed how the game was played at every level of competition, high school, college, NBA. At all those same levels, especially college and NBA, the game changed again after KAJ, because there was only and remains to this day only one KAJ. Did MJ do that? No. Did LBJ do that? No. That said, my vote for NBA GOAT is MJ. Even KAJ did not equal what MJ did - in the NBA. Even if LBJ wins another ring, giving him a (legit) total of 4, that will still only get him to 2nd in the NBA GOAT rankings for me, because 4 rings over 20+ years in no way comes close to 3peating twice in an 8 season span, no way Jose! Not to mention MJ was on the all defensive team every one of those seasons and was the DPOY 3-4 of them, meaning that he carried his team at both ends of the court, and they only asked him to do it at the scoring end. Most of these shots are not sky hooks. Not every shot attempt by Kareem was a sky hook. The Poodle Willoughby play is a dunk attempt. The Walton block was a turn around shot. Olajuwon was a finger roll. The Artis Gilmore and Bol blocks are sky hooks, but both look like goal tending. I'm not sure about Nate Thurmond. It looks like a sky hook but I'm not sure from the angle. The Parish block is a legit sky hook, so I will count it. However it had no arc because Kareem was so close to the basket. It was more like a layup attempt with a sky hook motion. Wilt's blocks along with Sampson's are definitely clean blocks of a sky hook. I also know of another one.
