They talk about Wilt's strength and athleticism....but they forget that he played the game with his mind.....watching this video shows that.

After watching a lot of chamberlain games, he barely even used his strength because everyone would call everything... When have you seen him post up and push back...

Chamberlain was 50% after his serious knee injury in 1969 . One of the ways you see it here is that Wilt bends way down to flex his legs under or near the basket before putting up a shot or dunk . He would often lose the ball to a steal or be fouled which for wilt was a one point foul shot at best and usually zero points . You should have seen him in his prime . He was one of the most mobile (left, right, back and forward) and quick big men you ever saw . In his prime he'd grab a rebound on defense and dribble it down the court . an offensive rebound he just dunk or tip it in . if he came down with it , all he had to do was flex his feet and his head would be over the rim . He did go on to win an NBA title with the lakers in 72 and 73 but he had a great team around him including Gail Goodrich and Jerry West .

Good point.Wilt hurt his knee had an operation on it went thru rehab and came back to play that same season. They lost to the Celtics in the finals I believe and nobody even remembers that Wilt came back from serious injury and couldn't have been at 100 pct.I believe they lost in 7 games. With no injury and Wilt at 100pct maybe Wilt has 3 rings not 2

@@ralphgreenwood2469 actually you got the year mixed up. Chamberlain injured his knee in the 1969-70 season (the year they lost to the Knicks in the Finals), Not 1968-69.

I could never imagine Lakers fans booing Kareem, but then again he did start his NBA🏀career as a rivaling Milwaukee Buck (Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons and the Chicago Bulls were western conference teams at the time). I wish I were at the 1972 ALL-Star🌠game at the Fabulous Forum in Inglewood, California but me and my twin sister were in our mom's womb at the time.

I didn't get a full count from the film yet but I get the feeling several assists weren't properly credited to these centers. Wilt Chamberlain and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar were given only 3 and 2 respectively and it seems like they had at least a few more than that. I know for sure Bob Lanier has a nice assist in this footage that doesn't show up on the 1972 ASG stat sheet on basketball reference.

I wish I could get the stats for specific games. I remember as a kid watching Bob Lanier and KAJ. I remember Bob dominating Jabber in Detroit at the Cobo Arena. He would not do nearly as good on the road. I just wish I could find the stats to confirm my memory. I was a little kid back than so my memory could be biased.

Even though Wilt put up huge offensive numbers, he was a VERY unselfish player. He was 7 foot 2 and here playing vs. 6 foot 7 Wes Unseld and never went down to the low post and demand he have the ball every time and shoot over Wes.

There were at least 3 times when Wilt played with the palming the ball and faked passes and finally passing off, when he should have just wheeled to the basket and dunked it. Half of his points were from offensive rebound put backs.
