But in our ciuntry this is right ... The farm Land and Wood owners make money from giving the rights to a local hunting Club. Hunters have noticed that loud crazy close to ground flying copters have an impact on their animals habitat. Now the owners kindly ask you for your name and give you a map that shows all their fields in RED marked as no fly zones. They forbid you to fly over their country below 100m and if you violate that there is a 500€ fine anounced per violation. They can try to track to track you and take pictures and at the 3rd violation they kick in and call the police. The freestyle drones will be banned here soon and have to buy or rent a space. City got also a lot of complaints and the Major is willing to ban every drone out the public City cause population does not wanna hear that noise and wining Motors . Now a university is doing a scientific research about the impact of Drone Flyers and free style drones on animals cause we lost a lot birds last season during lockdown ... and one assumption is that the noise of free stylers close to ground have an impact on breeding season of the animals. Here we have breeding seasons that protect the animals and for example No one is allowed to cut hedgerows and trees in your garden. But the real thread are the No fly zones of farmers that own 3000 ha each ha equaling 10.000 qm . That is a 6 x 5 km area. or even bigger if someone else owns fields inside that area. Luckily my grandpa had a Farm so I understand them and speak their languagr so I got NOT banned cause I fly Mavic 2 Zoom carefully. It is obvious that no one wants the noise level and its Up and Downs of a free style Drone close to his backyard. Freestyle Flyer have to find a Club in their own cause here they got banned by flying above 100m and the duty to avoid noisy manoeuvres. Same for Motorbikes - the city had started to Close streets with high Motor Bike Crash Rates the usual winding roads along hills . In our region free style is dead. The population does not like drones and hate free style especially in backyards and Public Parks .And you can not change that ...

@Grim FPV Yeah use best judgement. I know the type I had a guy threatening to smash up my quad if I didn't leave right away. You can usually tell quite quickly. 99% in my personal experience are whining invertebrates who think they can manipulate you. That would be a good top to wear lol. I wondered about a roll up "do not cross" safety barrier or some cones. Technically my local regulations say members of the public should ask for permission to approach when it is confirmed as safe. Maybe I could pin the regulation quote to a cone. 😄

I rewatched that clip a few times, and after initially thinking she was making the whole thing up, I think her concern for the birds was genuine, if almost certainly misplaced. Also, way too polite to be real Karen. The only weird things to me were that 1. it's a parking lot and 2. she said they were a threatened species but wouldn't name the species. I don't think was the typical "drones are evil" type because she pointed out a different place to fly and didn't even seem to know what a drone was. Personally, I've found that for the most part birds don't mind drones too much. Sometimes they do get spooked, and it's definitely a good idea to avoid nesting areas, but so long as you keep your distance they don't really seem to care. You handled that situation really well though - best course of action is always to take the high road, be polite and leave, even if you are clearly in the right.

@@OriginaldoBo Yeah, the only real question in my mind is whether she made the birds up entirely or was exaggerating the presence of seagulls to make herself seem more credible. The fact is that I can't think of a place to fly with less chance of disturbing wildlife (or people for that matter) than an empty parking lot! EDIT: lol just thinking about it and the field she told you to go fly in instead probably has a higher concentration of wild birds!

Young seagulls always liked my Spark back in the days. They were very curious. You DO have to watch out for birds, ofcourse, it's there sky, not ours. But I didn't see any birds in this clip and Ken absolutly knows what he's doing 👍

I think it's a good thing that you didn't give this lady a hard time and went to another place. That could go a long way to preserving the sport and also the NOT local wildlife. Drones are prohibited from flying in the National Parks etc. because they are traumatic for the wildlife. Birds will treat them as they would a predator. Wildlife conservation is a big thing for some people dedicate their whole lives to it. "Seagulls came under endangered species protection after bird populations began dropping to dangerous levels. Seagulls are migratory birds, and they nest in areas that are sometimes environmentally fragile. Seagulls are legally protected from harm in North America and parts of Europe. North American seagulls do migrate, but the distances of migration vary among species. For example, Franklin's Gulls migrate from Canada to Mexico while Herring Gulls fly from Canada to the northern United States or to coastal regions. 'Seagulls are the migrating wild birds that come to the UAE shores every winter from Siberia and Mediterranean regions.'"

You know one word of advice I might offer for ladies like her: don't go out of your way just to harass unsuspecting drone pilots or other people over trivial hings. Also if you are driving, seems like the car engine noise should help drown out the drone noises (especially if you have your windows closed). Plus most drones are only going to be up in the air for so long. I know the one I have (mavic mini) is usually only good for about 20 minutes on average before the rth kicks in. Also, if you are going to claim that there are restrictions on drones, be prepared to back up those claims (especially if the person has already scouted out the place a few times and couldn't find any restrictions on drones (I think in most states, school grounds are usually fair game when they are closed unless if there are policies in place that restrict drone use, could be in place in some schools in the country, I am sure, not sure if that was the case in the school the guy was at or not and the parking area was pretty empty too, so it is not like he was trying to bother anyone). Sure there are going to be places where drones are not allowed, but there are also going to be places where there are no discernable restrictions in place. Plus you are not a police officer, law enfocement or the like, so it is not your job to enforce the laws or bans if there are restrictions on drones in place. Might advice caution against acting confrontational too against random people you don't know. Sure some people will take kindly to the tone, but other may scoff at it and hit back (and you can get hurt that way to say the least). Reminds me of the old saying: mess with the bull, get the horns.

That's nothing I was at my mothers place the other day when 3 old Karen's accused me of trying to perv on their ugly wrinkled birthday suits. I landed in front of her balcony at my mothers building with the camera pointing down at the ground so that I wouldn't land in a bush, no pun intended. be careful where you fly so that you won't receive actuation's like this.

Going against the grain here, but as a birder and a drone flyer, I do try to take into account whether I might be affecting wildlife. Noise does disrupt their hearing ability. With the pandemic, for example, whale sounds are quieter, because they don’t have to compete with ocean freighter noise. I do wish they could make these FPV’s quieter, though. Just saying.

The problem with this kind of person is that she is interfering with the Pilot of a Small Aircraft, for no good reason. She is creating a Hazardous Condition, and could potentially cause some kind of accident because she is interfering with the Pilot In Command aka the PIC.

I have a lot of hours flying drones. My experience except for one time is birds seem to be curious and keep there distance at the same time. Once though a group of birds seemed very pissed and kept diving at the drone like trying to attack it. So I just packed up everything and went home. Didn't want the little birds getting hurt from the props.

what's weird is I live where there are numerous birds not a single one is ever bothered by any quad I fly and in fact one of my friends drones got attacked by a hawk in a completely different location. so if you think you're bothering them forget it. you drone may as well have been food for a hawk

Dude, gardener kicked me out of a park once too. Well actually it was a Mobula7 and he said don’t fly too close to the trees as it really freaks out the birds. I had to respect that. Excellent rippin’ bro!

Wow the same shit happened to me at a park down here in Miami but it wasn’t a passive aggressive cute old lady it was some duck doing community service for drug court... I literally laughed in his face and told him to call the cops I’m sure it would benefit the terms of his probation. The nerve of some people going out of their way to ruin other peoples day. SMH

The state of Florida is very anti drone! There is actually a law on the books that is highly illegal and states that you must obtain permission from property owners if you fly over their property. The law states that you must not fly below 500' over private property which is 100' over the maximum flight altitude allowed by the FAA.

I hate it when people make shit up instead of just being honest and saying, “your drone bothers me.” and maybe just being a bit more objective when it comes to new technology they don’t understand. I have a DJI Inspire 2 and I’ve been told that model is used to inspect bald eagle nests. “Bother the birds.” What a bunch of lame bs. You handled the situation as it should have been handled though.

well... I am a bird lover and owner (and also fpv pilot)..so I understand the concern related to bird being scared during nesting time... so I try to stay away from them.. :|

Tell her I have allot of birds who really don't give a dam. Chickens don't care chew on that lady. Eggs are great though. Should have asked asked her what tree they were watching you from and your Bee was a research project for DARPA. Gov. Project. Lol keep them Bees flying! Jim
