@CHC4669 Both are monster musicians. I would say Vinnie is a bit more versatile than Dennis. He can morph into whatever the situation needs. Dennis is a powerhouse. Great feel, jaw dropping hand speed. I'm in awe of both of these guys.
VINNIE RULES!!! One of the most amazing drummers that has ever walked this planet!!! BTW, I enjoyed looking at the beautiful woman in the frame too. Hahaha
At 6:10 the dudes are into it and they are literally ALL staring at Vinny like robots, all the while Landau is CRUSHING that solo!! I mean, come on.... I LOVE me some Vinny but WOW!
This Stage Rehearsal is SO good, that I don't even care about sound quality. It has haunted my soul to the point of needing to replay & study it several times per day for the last 2 weeks. Best players on earth. ;+)
Wow!! Thank you for sharing such a raw video of Vinnie’s sound check. I personally like this types of videos because some times he is unaware that somebody is filming him and he shows some nuggets in his playing.
THIS IS AN AMAZING FOOTAGE OF VINNIE AND THIS VERY SPECIAL BAND. THERE AREN'T MANY VIDEOS OF KARISMA ON THE INTERNET. I WAS BLOWN WHEN AT 3:40 THEY START PLAYING ONE OF MY FAVOURITE TUNES WHICH IS IN 11/8 GREAT !! THANKS FOR SHARING THIS.
Glory to God in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ, Vinnie is a one of a kind drummer, the 3 greatest drummer in the world, are Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, and Vinnie Colaiuta.
He has been the only one (or one of the first) bringing the 16th note displacement phrasing concept to the table. Maybe that's why his nickname is Skippy? ❤
Super great moment. The original footage appears to be done on miniDV: so by the time ‘it’ reaches RU-vid - the audio is LATE. That makes some comments here pretty funny to read.
It was the document album that made me buy the white V.C signature series gretsch, but I like this one better because the toms are mounted, mine is a virgin bass drum!
That’s so cool you bought his Signature kit. Personally I’d prefer my kit to have a virgin bass drum but he has gotten away from that and RIMS style, suspension mounts on the toms as well. I love his newer cobalt blue kit the best but this was iconic kit for sure. I don’t even need to ask how great your kit sounded. That’s like asking if Vinnie played the gig well. Some things in life are a given. Death, taxes, That Great Gretsch Sound and Vinnie just killing it!!!
I saw where Professor Peart thought this guy was really good... I see why now. I hear the similarities. Yeah, I'm digging his playing. And while he's not like Peart, nor Peart like him, they're close enough that I can see why Neil liked him. There is, however, a certain resemblance to the drumming technique of the late, great, Bun E. Carlos also... Hey, can you spare a light?
IMO he's heavily influenced by Porcaro, one of his idol. Just listen to Toto record, their approach and fill in style are somewhat born from same root 😊
