To the contrary - it turns out - he was a knowledgeable, deep, introspective genius who happened to represent the fashion industry which is considered trivial to most of us. That's the irony or mystery about him. But, I do agree, though, that people tend to glorify the dead. In the case of Lagerfeld, he seems to be an enigmatic figure - rather a puzzle to be solved.
