Seriously, how can people actually think Karl is a character... if he was he would singlehandedly be the BEST ACTOR in the world! He is just karl Pilkington, a simple bloke, and he is so funny because he is NOT a character but a real person. I love him, makes my day everytime. best person alive, brilliant in his own stupid way.
He might play up certain parts of his personality to the camera, for entertainment purposes, or sometimes act like he's more stupid than he is. But in general, he is a real guy.
People in reality are much funnier than any actor could ever be. I’ve met unbelievably hilarious people in my time and not a single one of them was a fake character. The moment I became aware of Pilkington, years and years ago, I knew immediately that he was a real guy and that it was no act, just by how incredibly and effortlessly funny he was.
I have to agree with Karl, how many times have you agreed to a night out and when it arrives you don't fancy it and can't be bothered! I have to go out tonight but would rather spend the night in!
Harrison Bowman I mean, it would be fine if I had sexual feelings towards women, but I wouldn't act on it. So, it doesn't matter. I'm one of those weirdos who doesn't like sex or romantic relationships. I prefer solitude.
tigerkitten927 That's fair enough, I know some people that said they would ignore it because they wouldn't want to have sex with the same gender, but what they don't realise is if they were attracted to the same gender, they would want to have sex with them lol.
Kinetic Blake I have looked into that, but no I'm just a jaded 42 year old woman. I've been engaged several times and I like some aspects of feeling close with someone but it's not worth the exhausting task of maintaining a relationship. (and I don't do casual sex) I'm not thrilled with humans in general anymore.
Agree. He's incredibly honest. From the day that we are born we are taught that we HAVE TO have fun, especially during celebrations and imposed festivities. Way to go Karl, way to go.
Totally agree with Karl. Never liked parties, its not real fun. Its organised fun, its like acting. No wonder you see someone sat in the corner alone and bored, because they're being genuine and not conforming to a loud-outgoing and drunken picture which every one thinks you ought to fit. The spontaneous events in life, when you just do something on a whim are always 10x more fun because it happened naturally. You obviously have to plan in life or even plan a little but you should never plan something thats supposed to be fun, because its just fake then… in my opinion. People who love parties could read this and say 'What? You miserable bastard?', well, to those who say that I would say my apologies, I like to have higher standards of fun.
Seeing all their facial expressions really makes me wish we had footage of xfm shows and podcasts especially for Karl he is twice as funny when you actually see him talking.
4:01 I just love Stephen's silent giggle here because he can feel another banger quote coming up. And surely enough, there was a banger quote right around the corner!
I saw the video, knew the name, but couldn’t remember why I knew it AND didn’t know his face. But the moment I saw Ricky Gervais it all came flooding back to me! They used to be on a radio program a friend recommended and I became addicted to it! I haven’t thought of it in years, but Karl is a comic goldmine!
parties are not forced fun, nor is anyone acting. if you get these feelings when you go to a party, it is not a party... it would be an awkward gathering
Just watched this again for the first time in years. Had me in stitches. I think it's Karl's genuine honesty, and the way he describes things, that makes him one of the funniest people around. A national treasure. When he goes he should be buried in Westminster Abbey. I don't know if there are any philosophers in there, but if there are, stick him next to them.
I can't believe how funny that moment at 3:20 is, where Gervais says "Why you talkin' like that for Carl? How's Suzanne?" Karl's momentary second-long reaction of complete gormlessness is amazing. I am convinced he is a Genius.
Who ever decided to take away these guys in chairs talking and submit it to a cartoon version should be sacked. This is pure gold seeing the real thing.
The Ricky Gervais show was from their podcasts etc, they weren't filmed. It's not like they had regular footage and decided to make it into an animation instead.
I love how Steve says he had a "whale of a time" in rio during the carnival. When we know the truth, to be, he spent a day pissing in the sea, and the rest of the time with the shits in shared accommodation 🤣🤣
Totally get where hes coming from. I was proper gregarious and sociable in my youth. These days, the wife, my daughter, a couple of really close friends - at home or in a restaurant/quiet pub. Is about as party as I get. The thought of a 'party' or crowded venue where there's a load of strangers or loose acquaintances I have to fake socialise with at a set time.... it's hell.
Karl is right again about parties, I went to a few as a student and felts so out of place. I tried to have a couple myself, for halloween & my 21st and hated every moment of it
Yep organised or "forced fun" can be so isolating. There are set standards for what having a good time is supposed to look like, doesn't matter how it actually feels to be there.
The only thing that makes Karl so pleasant is Ricky egging him on and that insidious laugh.. most of us would just roll our eyes and say ‘what a knobhead’... and not bother
"If you're not happy looking a knob in the face there's something wrong" ...Sounds like a romantic line to say to your special lady next time you whip it out..
I totally agree with Karl on planning. When I know I've got something on, even if it's something I'll enjoy it becomes a chore in my head and I can't relax till it's done with. The best nights out are always the ones where it's like "I'm off to the pub now, you coming?" When it's been pencilled in 4 weeks ahead of schedule, I wind up almost resenting the event for the time it has taken occupying my mind. If something's been planned ahead it better be bloody good.
I love his face when he claims his social experiment of non-planning was a succes, because he's getting free chicken. Ricky and Steve are laughing their heads off out of disbelief and confusion, and he's staring them in the eyes intently.
I agree with him on the planning thing. If a friend of mine says do you want to hang out this sunday and it's thursday and i say i dunno i might not feel like it then, they get mad. i dont like planning because i wont be in the same mood and i dont want to feel cluttered. weird i know
My only ever wish would be that a series of an idiot abroad 3 would be made. It's so so funny. I loved watching the first and second ones but no talk of a third, unless anybody knows any different. Their all great love to watch a new series of this.
i dont know how he does it, but karl never gets old. imagine getting to meet him once a week. you wouldnt need any other form of entertainment, youd go all week thinking about his inane shenanigans from last week.
Carl is the only person I can think of that I simultaneously GET and am flabbergasted by with respect to his logic. Its amazing really. He should be a mediator of some kind.
I feel like an imitation of Karl. I have temporal lobe epilepsy and that comes with its own personality symptoms. Lots of people can't really put up with me because I just can't help but say things how they are. And I put them/word them in a mad way too. It makes me extremely philosophical (google geschwind syndrome) the symptoms of temporal lobe epilepsy. I'd like to have a discussion with him about UK TV soaps lol.
I relate to the concept of false fun so much. Everything I do in an environment like that unless I'm drunk feels fake and unnatural. I can't tell someone happy birthday with a gift or receive one without cringing
