Thanks for this! I'm really getting in to Stockhausen lately, Licht is a very mind blowing concept too. Conceptually, compositionally and in scope (29 fucking hours!) awesome!!
Stockhausen is a bit like David Bowies starman. He wants to share his music with us earthlings but he thinks he will blow our minds. He certainly has mine - in a thoroughly thoroughly good way. Importantly this music hasn't only made me want to explore Stockhausen and his contemporaries but also composers like Bach and Handle again too.
Relax, allongez-vous et embrassez la réalité illusoire. Und doch empfinde ich gerade diese Freitags Versuchung gar nicht in erster Linie ,,mind blowing'', sondern recht übersichtlich und sehr gut konsumierbar, ohne, dass einem gleich langweilig wird. Nachdem ich in letzter Zeit verstärkt Stockhausen konsumiere, ja, konsumiere, bislang ohne, dass ich dabei ein entgeisterter Bewunderer geworden wäre, bemerkte ich kürzlich, dass mich von mir doch sonst eigentlich gut hingenommenes Werbungszeugs, welches sich sogar ins relativ Progressive wagt, in einer mir bis jetzt neuen Weise nicht bloß anödete, sondern glatt in seiner grausamen Phantasielosigkeit anwiderte. Welch abartig stumpfsinniges Zeug wurde und wird uns die ganze Zeit serviert? Stockhausen verwöhnt also. Das freut mich.
With a lot of Licht I wonder how the experience would change under a different production value, i.e., more modern synths, higher budget staging and so on. It was once written somewhere that Wagner's Ring didn't really get the realization it deserved in his lifetime due to its ambition being beyond a then possible technical scale, and I think the same could be true for Licht
I think you're absolutely right. They've never even performed the whole cycle in one production (although Aus Licht made a valiant attempt). My fear is that the Stockhausen estate won't do enough to promote this music to a wider audience, so it may be forgotten and never really brought to its true potential. Crossing my fingers that Licht gets the production it deserves.
@@santiagolopezmoskovits132 From experience (cough cough), while I appreciate their care and the work they have put into the publications of Stockhausen's music, if they weren't so focused on selling the CDs and scores and actually allowing it to be showcased more, his music would reach a much wider audience. The way things are, only current Stockhausen fans will be able to enjoy his music (especially stuff like Licht)
Was mich, der ich selber nun erst sehr spät auf Stockhausen komme, nichtsdestoweniger doch wundert, ist, dass Stockhausen nicht längst schon viel breitere Resonanz und Präsenz hat. Es müssten eigentlich bald Millionen sein, welche auf ihn stießen und ihn gerne konsumieren. Was war da? Wieso kommt dessen breite Etablierung erst jetzt? Denn die steht, meine ich, an. In vierzig Jahren, so nichts dazwischen kommt, dürfte der als der Musikant der Jahrhundertwende gelten.
