Avocado or Butterfruit requies more water. It's suitable for Malnad/Kerala regions. If all farmers start Avocado farming in dry climate areas using borewell there will be water problem for sure.

As usual farmers doing the same mistake again. Videos like this show money on the paper. Rampant cultivation of Avocados has started already throughout India. God knows what will happen in the next five years. Butter fruit used to grow as a backyard fruit trees in Malnad regions and in Kodaikanal have made inroads everywhere. No proper selection of cultivars, no rootstock selection, no disease identification due to monocrop cultivation and never thought about the market, indian consumer palate or value addition. Hope it doesn't become like the Passion fruit of the North East or Emu farming of Progressive farmer of Kaivara.

@@mohannair5671 the concerned departments still cannot solve the wilt issue of GI tagged Coorg Mandarin, or the CHESH, Chettalli's own fruit, the Kaveri variety passion fruit. Due to wilt issue the mandarins of Northeast and Kodagu never progressed. The scientists take their own time to solve or they are transferred to different departments leaving the previous work to gather dust. Why all that, a beautiful fruit like the egg fruit is never marketed well. If mixed with milk and vanilla ice cream the fruit can win a taste challenge over two lengths distance. The California avocados have over hundred years of research and development. When I asked IIHR back in 2016 to provide me a grafted avocado they laughed and told me who makes grafted ones, we have only seedling variety. When asked for the root rot issue they told me it's yet to be experimented. The first grafted ones were the TDK1, which I have two plants, which was done on a pilot basis by CHES, Chettalli.

The motive becomes money my friend. These exotic fruit bearing trees are very water hungry. Unless we accept sustainable farming practices, we will be heading to an acute water shortage.

@@vishruthvasagam6382 but at the same time there a lot of ppl quitting farming and converting lands into sites. I ofcourse would expect a sustainable approach considering the soil quality, water availability and weather conditions.

Avocado production is highly water-intensive, roughly 70 liters per fruit, more than 12 times as much as tamato. Only very few farmers have their own regular market for the products. Other farmers are just producing resulting to selling of their produce at a lower price, thereby, affecting the marketability of those produced by other farmers. Dragon fruit production requires a relatively high investment costs. everyone can't grow that

Indian farmers should be helped by govts at all levels. Indian farmers should aim to be the best and govt should come up with lots of initiatives encouraging them not only to produce for India but for the world. It is a recession proof industry. The best practices of the world should be adopted in India and literacy rate should increase to 100%. Some qualities like good education, good health and skill development should be given full attention by the authorities. Indians should be treated like one family and fully supported and encouraged. Merit and hard work should be rewarded. Laziness and inactivity should be discouraged. Giving free food may lead to laziness in some cases so it should be carefully planned and only to handicap people govt should support. 80 crore people are given 5 kg food grain but they should do some work for the society they live in. Freebies can only be in furthering education, skill development and standing on ones own feet. Long live India and its visionary leaders. We must aim to be the best.

According to some studies, avocados are among the 3 crops causing more water stress in their region of production and UNESCO's research shows that they have a global average water footprint of 1981 m3/ton.

@@mohannair5671 we have three cultivars, the Indian avocado is watery and has less oil contents compared to the Mexican and Guatemalan counterparts. It's good for domestic consumption, wherein the domestic consumption is around 1 to 2%. The superior cultivars cannot be grown throughout the Indian subcontinent due to varied temperatures or has not been field trialed. Its a new fruit to many planters and lots of them are jumping into the bandwagon. It's just a waiting game for the intelligent and a money making scenario for the nursery people.
