Ruds ... great review. In my opinion the build quality and tight tolerances are second to none. This razor is truly an outstanding value. I have both the 3 and 3.5 inch handle plus B, C and D plates. For those who are wondering, I'd say the B plate is like a 2.5, C plate 4.5 and D plate 6.5 in reference to the Rockwell 6s razor. Hope this helps.
Nice video sir. This brass Karve is one of the most beautiful timeless designs I have seen on a DE razor, so I shall purchase one as a collector's item. Please which of the karve plates are equivalent to the Rockwell R2 and R5 plates? I actually want to get one with two plates that swing between mild and mild-aggressive. Please advise. Gomez
nice vid rudy,,,but just a little suggestion on karve (plates)...remember each plate not only changes in blade gap but also the blade exposure also changes. Gap is just one element and not the whole picture. Now you are one of the best for feeding us important info where other talk off topic and talk in depth abour soaps and scents. Half the vid is a waste of time. You are always spot on, on topic and informative which I truly apprecidate!
I've seen people comparing Rockwell 6C with the 6S. They concluded that the 6C was a smoother shave than the bead blasted surface than the 6S. I wonder how the polished brass of the Karve that you used would compare with the standard Karve.
Sure. I find the E plate perfect for weekday shaves, D for quick out the door/rush and F is fantastic for weekend/longer growth. The whole cost , searching and waiting for a Paradigm or Wolfman is over imo. Too many great razors now made AS well. The DART this month too.
Hi Stuart, Karve is certainly making its mark, but wondering if you've tried The Dart yet. I have been experimenting with new razors and just had my first shave with The Dart. I like it a lot! Aggressive, but not overly so, and great quality as well. Can you compare the two if you've tried both? I shave every other day, so "daily driver" is not too much of an issue, as my skin is always fine after 48 hours anyway. Thanks...Derek
Hi Ruds, I would like to know which razor you prefer the brass or the stainless steel razor better? And also which plate do you like better? Thank you. And great videos.
Somehow I missed this review months ago. Glad I stumbled across it as I'm going to be placing an order for a Karve and have been going back and forth on the plates to go with it. Your input along with some of the others that have commented help with my selection. As always a great honest review, keep them coming. I always look forward to your videos.
I’m not sure why, but I don’t like the look of brass razors. This is probably the best looking I’ve seen, though I’d prefer it to be black or a silver matte finish :) It’s beautifully machined.
Hard to compare one to the other. The Timeless has flawless build quality and a specific head and base plate (.68 or .95). If that is your thing and you have the means, you cannot go wrong with a Timeless. The Karve offers more variability and less of a burden on the wallet.
I own or have owned a Charcoal L2, Wolfman .74, Blackbird, both Timeless gaps, Pils, Paradigm 17-4 and on. For pure shave and build quality (the threading is unmatched even by Wolfman) the Karve is as efficient as any of them but much smoother. It’s the finest DE razor made today.
Great review Ruds, delighted to hear someone else talking about blade chatter. I think a lot of DE hardware reviews miss that and if you're used to a SE, blade chatter can leave you looking like weeper City!
Great video. Love my 6s and you are correct. I can autopilot a great two pass shave and almost be BBS. I see these on the forum and it's nice to see a review. Again, great job.
In my opinion there is not a large enough gap in premium feel, tolerance or shave quality to justify buying this if you have and enjoy a 6C and are on a budget.
Hi, I am new to wet shaving, what you mean by saying the razor requires the shallow angle when shaving? That's mean the handle need to be closer or farther from the face? Thank you.
How shallow is the shave angle exactly? Especially compared to the timeless shave angle. Like a ride the top cap kind of angle? Thanks Ruds for all of the great feedback on all things wetshaving!
I’m sold! This will be my next razor! I’m new to Safety Razor shaving. I actually got my angle down pretty quick. I’m bald as well and love it! Good review! Just subscribed.
Tough choices. The Karve and 6s have the ability to change plates if that is what you are after. Game Changer .84 is about the perfect shave though. For my money, GC .84 would be my choice simply because it shaves perfect for my style and I don't find myself ever changing plates.
Ruds Shaves Yes I’m the same, I find a setting and keep with it so just for the shaving experience in its self, the Gamechanger wins. Thanks mate, I appreciate your time to answer.
Great video!! My favourite razor right now is my Rockwell 6s. I am wondering the the base plates you used ( was it C& D?) Which base plates on the Rockwell would you compare them to in terms of aggression?
Rudd is right on! I prefer plate 5 on the 6S. The D plate on the Karve is the best comparable plate to the 6S. I think the Karve is a better shaver, is more efficient and the build quality is very impressive! The 6S is a favorite razor of mine. I like the Karve a little more than the 6S.
